'Time Out for Peggy' was filmed at the Midlands/North production facilities of ABC Weekend Television, and was transmitted in the Midlands and northern England in two series from March 1958 to January '59. The 24 episodes have never been broadcast in London ... which is a shame, because this is a very funny sitcom, starring a very talented (and sexy!) actress when she was very young and at her sexiest.

The great Beckett actress Billie Whitelaw (phwor!) played Peggy Spencer, a young woman who inherited a broken-down boarding-house but who had no money to run it. Most of the episodes dealt with the peculiar behaviour of Peggy's various lodgers, or with Peggy's attempts to earn money and make a go of the business she'd been lumbered with. There were also slapstick routines whenever Peggy had to repair the plumbing or the fixtures by herself, being unable to afford tradesmen to do it properly.

Interestingly, 'Time Out for Peggy' was created by an American: Budd Grossman, who was later the executive producer for 'Three's Company' and 'Diff'rent Strokes'. Grossman also wrote most of the scripts for 'Time Out for Peggy' whilst he was resident in England. I'll rate 'Time Out for Peggy' 7 out of 10. I'm writing this more than forty years on from the original series, and Billie Whitelaw (into her seventies now) is still sexy!
