Geena Davis had tried out for archery in the 2000 Olympics but fell short of qualifying for the team, ranking 24th place, which increased her obsession with the sport. Hoping to go to the 2004 Olympics, Davis persistently practiced on set, and as a gag, she gave costar Peter Horton a T-shirt with a giant target on it.
Wendy Makkena and another actress originally starred as Teddie's coworker in the pilot, they appeared in cast photos and some early preview clips, but they were replaced by Kim Coles and Harland Williams two months before the show premiered.
Peter Horton was wary of starring in a comedy, but creator Terri Minsky fought to ensure he played the role of Max.
