1.) I mentioned yesterday Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was close to adding a few "tough guy" actors. Well, those announcements came through yesterday afternoon as Josh Brolin has officially joined the picture. He'll take over the role of Dwight, who was played by Clive Owen in the first Sin City. Dwight's storyline in A Dame to Kill For actually takes place prior to his story from the first film, and it sounds like we're going to learn why his face looks so different. Christopher Meloni also joined the film yesterday, though all we know is that he's playing a cop. His character is also considered one of the leads. Deadline 2.) Tina Fey appears close to securing the female lead in Disney's sequel to The Muppets. The film takes the action overseas in a European-set caper picture, with Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell already announced as the other two human leads.

If you’ve been wondering who would play the role of Dwight in the upcoming Sin City sequel, the answer is that Josh Brolin was brought in instead of Clive Owen.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the sequel to the 2005 film brings back most of the cast of the original such as Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Jaime King and Rosario Dawson with several new additions.
Just recently Dimension Films announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has joined the movie in the key role of Johnny as well as it was revealed that Christopher Meloni is part of the production. Meloni (Law and Order: Special Victims Unit) has signed on to play a disreputable cop.
Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung have replaced Michael Clarke Duncan and Devon Aoki, respectively.

What is Casting Couch? It’s a casting roundup that’s knee deep in nostalgia as it reports on movies based on comic books and toys from its childhood. Due to a little bit of inspiration from the Internet, Michael Bay gave Mark Wahlberg a pretty big part in his upcoming fourth Transformers movie. It’s always been understood that Wahlberg was playing a placeholder character though, who would pass the franchise off to a couple of young kids who would be pushed into the forefront as it went forward. Well, today Bay announced that he’s found the male half of this new duo. Apparently little known Irish actor Jack Reynor is his guy. Bay says that he saw Reynor in an Irish movie called What Richard Did, which a quick Googling tells me has nothing to do with acting opposite giant robots, so let’s all hope he knows what he’s talking about. As...

When news of Joseph Gordon-Levitt joining Sin City: A Dame to Kill For broke yesterday, Deadline mentioned that Josh Brolin was being pursued for a tough guy role. However, they also mentioned that Clive Owen and Bruce Willis would be reprising their roles. Well, it sounds like they didn't know what the hell they were talking about as a press release from Dimension Films announced today that Brolin would be taking the role of Dwight, the character originated by Owen in the 2005 graphic novel adaptation from director Robert Rodriguez. It had been discussed that someone else could end up taking the role since part of the story actually may call for Dwight to look completely different than he did in segments from Sin City. In fact, the press release clears up the story details for Dwight's portion: In 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,' Dwight is hunted...

Dimension Films has now announced that Josh Brolin (Gangster Squad) and Chris Meloni (Law & Order: Svu) have landed lead roles in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Brolin will play Dwight, previously played by Clive Owen, and Meloni will be playing a cop in the film. I imagine the cop is going to be a hard-edged type character. Meloni is a solid actor who also was in HBO's Oz series, and you all know Brolin kicks ass as an actor.
Just last night it was announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt also took on a main role in the film of a character named Johnny. Gordon-Levitt has since released a statement on being cast in the film saying,
I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality.

And the casting news continues for the next trip to Frank Miller's Sin City as Deadline is reporting that Chris Meloni ("True Blood," "Oz") has joined the ever growing cast of badasses that will appear in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

The sequel, a Quick Draw Production, will be produced by Robert Rodriguez and producing partners Aaron Kaufman and Iliana Nikolic and by Alexander Rodnyansky and Sergei Bespalov and Stephen L’Hereux. Best known for his work on the long-running procedural "Law & Order: Svu," actor Christopher Meloni will be donning a uniform once again. Deadline reports that he's snagged a role as a cop in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, a movie that's gotten a lot of ink in the past 24 hours because Hollywood's golden boy Joseph Gordon-Levitt chose a lead in that film last night over parts in Godzilla and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. But nothing is what it seems in Sin City, so we'll have to wait and see what side of the law Meloni's character is really on when the movie comes out. Those who never got into "Law & Order" might recognize Meloni from his comedic performances in Wet Hot American Summer and as the hideously deformed "Freakshow" character from Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. ...

Deadline is reporting that Christopher Meloni has joined Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Word is the part is a lead role and, just as he did in Law & Order: Svu, Meloni will be playing a cop.
Meloni is an intense actor and should fit in perfectly with the world of Sin City and the rest of the cast. He’ll be joining Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung, as well as the recently cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Deadline also has word that directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are looking to add Josh Brolin and some other cast members from the first film.

Both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Chris Meloni have joined the cast of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. They’ll be part of the ensemble cast that already includes Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, and Rosario Dawson. Dennis Haysbert was also recently cast in the movie as Manute, the role previously held by the late Michael Clarke Duncan in the first film.
Specific character details have not yet been released, but Deadline reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing a main character named Johnny, while Chris Meloni (Law and Order, True Blood, Oz) will be playing a cop in the film. Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are co-directing once again, from a script co-written by William Monahan.
Filming has already been taking place, but due to the way the stories are broken up, it’s been easier for Rodriguez and Miller to work around the schedules of the actors they are looking to cast.

Exclusive: Add Law & Order: Svu alum Christopher Meloni to the cast of tough guys lined up for the Frank Miller/Robert Rodriguez-directed Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Meloni has landed a lead role in the film. He’ll be playing a cop, which might seem like stereotyping. But in the original Sin City, cops were the most hard-edged disreputable characters in the film. So while Meloni might seem like the prototypical honest cop from his TV series run, if you’ve seen any of his work in the HBO series Oz, you’ll know he can play one frighteningly imposing dude capable of anything. Dimension Films is already in production on the film, which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung, so far. Forget Batman. Forget Star-Lord. For Joseph Gordon-Levitt, right now, the only comic book movie character on the brain goes by the name Johnny.
In a surprising turn of events, the "Dark Knight Rises" actor has opted for a lead role in "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," director Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's follow-up to the 2005 fan-favorite thriller. He'll play a new character created specifically for the film named Johnny, described in a press release as "a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game."
Who is this most foul enemy that Johnny is going after? Someone new to the "Sin City" universe just like our cocky gambler, or a character we're already familiar with? My money is on the latter — and I'm making the early prediction that Johnny is going after none other than The Salesman, played by...

If Ryan Gosling was the man of 2011, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was the man of 2012. He was beyond awesome in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, and phenomenal taking the lead opposite Bruce Willis in Rian Johnson’s Looper, and now he’s set to lead another brilliant project in the form of Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
Deadline report that Gordon-Levitt will be taking the role of Johnny, originally offered to Johnny Depp earlier in the project’s development.
Starring alongside him will be Jessica Alba, Jamie Chung, Mickey Rourke, Jaime King, Michael Madsen, Rosario Dawson, and Dennis Haysbert, with Bruce Willis and Clive Owen expected to reprise their original roles as well.
We had heard last week that Gordon-Levitt was in talks with Marvel over Guardians of the Galaxy, and had been added to the short list for the leading human role of Peter Quill.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has officially signed on to star in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. He will play a smooth talking gambler named Johnny, a role which was originally offered to Johnny Depp.
The character is one of the core characters in the overlapping story lines. Today was basically Godzilla day on the Internet. All sorts of news regarding Legendary Pictures’ reboot of the big green guy’s film series broke, and some of it involves casting. THR broke the news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was being looked at to star, but one of their writers, Borys Kit, was then quick to point out that his potential involvement in the film is long dead. Variety writer Justin Kroll then jumped in with the news that a few names that are still possibilities for the project are Henry Cavill, Scoot McNairy, and Caleb Landry Jones. All of this news comes with a special thanks to /Film, who compiled all the chatter into a tight little narrative. As usually happens once a film gears up for production, hot on the heels of yesterday's news that John McNaughton (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer) is directing The Harvest, a casting update has come for the project.
Deadline reports that Peter Fonda (Ghost Rider, Race with the Devil) will be joining Samantha Morton and Michael Shannon in The Harvest. Natasha Calis, Charlie Tahan, Leslie Lyles, and Meadow Williams also appear in the film written by Stephen Lancellotti.
The Harvest stars Morton and Shannon as a married couple with medical backgrounds and a sick son (Tahan) who lives secluded in a controlled environment until a young girl (Natasha Calis) moves in next door and gives him hope of a better life. As the teens grow closer, the tight-knit world his over-protective mother has created begins to unravel. Fonda and Lyles portray Calis' grandparents.

What is Casting Couch? It’s not so much a couch as it is a list, a list of recent castings. And it seems to be talking a lot about World War II today. George Clooney and Matt Damon must have decided that they both look super handsome when they’re standing next to each other, because not only have they already worked together on the Oceans movies and Syriana, but now Deadline is reporting that Clooney has decided that he’s going to cast Damon in his next project as a director, The Monuments Men. This is that one about the museum curators who try to save as many artifacts and works of art as possible during the Nazis’ slash and burn campaign that took place during the dying days of World War II. If Damon’s negotiations go well and he signs up, he’ll be joining a cast that already includes Clooney himself, Daniel Craig...

George Clooney is getting ready for his next directorial effort The Monuments Men. He’s assembled a great cast that includes himself, Daniel Craig, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville and Bob Balaban. You can now add Matt Damon to that list.
Damon is in talks to reunite with his Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13 costar Clooney for the World War II flick.
Here’s a synopsis of the film from Deadline:
“The drama… confronts the final chapter of Germany’s rule, which came down to the absolute destruction of everything that makes a culture keep its standing, including the lives that are lost and the sacrifices that are made. All of this is in danger of being lost forever as Hitler and the Nazis try to cover the tracks of a murderous regime. A crew of art historians and museum curators unite to recover renown works...

1.) In my opinion one of the largest problems facing our movies today is the idea of always looking forward and not focusing on what's right in front of your face and that has been exhibited again today as Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham are already working on a sequel to del Toro's upcoming Cloverfield-esque monster movie Pacific Rim. Pacific Rim won't hit theaters until July 12, 2013 with the first trailer is rumored to be attached to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and yet, in a world where franchises rule, the sequel is all the studio can think about. The story for the original centers on a defense force consisting of mechas, giant robots and their human pilots, who are fighting to save humanity from gigantic monsters invading from an other-worldly dimension. Maybe, in the sequel, the same thing can happen again only this time, it will be even Bigger! THR...

When it comes to Wise Guys, you don’t find many more authentic than Paulie Gualtieri of HBO’s The Sopranos. Paulie was acted by Tony Sirico who has now made an offer that Family Guy could not refuse.

Tony Sirico’s recurring role is that of Vinnie the Dog. Watch your six Brian! When the Griffins buy Vinnie froma local pet shop, suspicions arise that he may have ties to the criminal underworld. "Machete Kills" is being strangled by a new lawsuit.
Overnight Productions, owner of the action movie "Machete," has filed a $2 million lawsuit against filmmaker Robert Rodriguez's production company, Quick Draw Holdings LLC, and Machete Kills LLC. The suit alleges Rodriguez's company has withheld tax credits and lied about the budget of the upcoming movie "Machete Kills," a sequel to the 2010 mega-hit, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Although defendants have produced the sequel, they have failed to meet a condition precedent to their grant of rights, forcing plaintiffs to terminate the agreement," the lawsuit alleges, THR reports. "Defendants have also failed and refused to provide the required budget information to Overnight Productions so that it can determine the producer fee owed with respect to the sequel. As a result, plaintiffs have been forced to bring this action to confirm the cancellation of the grant of rights and to recover the amounts plaintiffs are owed.

Ironically, someone is trying to kill Machete Kills. The details, however, aren.t nearly as exciting as that sounds. Overnight Productions has filed a lawsuit against director Robert Rodriguez and his Quick Draw Productions in hopes of blocking the release of the sequel Machete Kills, which was picked up for distribution by Open Road last month. The dispute, according to Deadline, involves Texas tax-credit information, which Overnight claims they never received. By allegedly hiding this information, it has become difficult for Overnight to determine the fees owed to company executive Rick Schwartz. Overnight is suing to terminate its agreement with Rodriguez allowing him to make another movie based on Machete, a character played by Danny Trejo. If the court order moves forward, it could temporarily block the sequel.s planned release. (It was due to reach theaters in the Spring of 2013.) And really, can.t we all agree that blocking...

Uh oh. Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills is in some serious trouble. The producers of the film have taken action against the filmmaker’s production company, and are looking to kill the film.
The Overnight Production producers, who also happen to own Robert Rodriguez’s Machete sequel, have filed a $2 million lawsuit against the filmmaker’s production company, Quick Draw Productions. Overnight is claiming that they were not provided with Texas’ tax credit information as was required under their agreement with Quick Draw.
If the Overnight producers get their way, they could stop the release of the film, which Open Road has already acquired for distribution.
Overnight also claims that Quick Draw failed and refused to provide the required budget information to them, and thus they were unable to determine the producer fee with respect to the sequel.
