Peter Kay and the writers couldn't think of a title of the show. A friend of theirs told them "No matter what you call it, people are going to ask each other 'Have you seen that Peter Kay thing?'."
Chorley FM was created for the show. This fictional radio station can also be heard in Phoenix Nights (2001) and Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere (2004). However, this created problems in 2006, when a real Chorley FM began to air.
Despite being set in Bolton, the Apollo bingo hall is actually a bingo hall in Blackpool.
