Screenwriter Milos Macourek wanted this miniseries to be directed by his traditional collaborator Václav Vorlícek. The German co-producer, however, insisted on Jaroslav Dudek because he thought that the unexpected combination of the screenwriter of Arabela (1980) and the director of Hospital at the End of the City (1977) would bring a guaranteed hit.
This miniseries is a very loose adaptation of an idea from Josef Nesvadba's short story 'The Saviour', set in a distant post-apocalyptic future against the backdrop of a gender war in which a scientist invents a device that allows procreation despite the social division of men and women into two irreconcilable camps. Screenwriter Milos Macourek has borrowed only the idea of a device that allows the production of children in a different than traditional way, but absolutely all the circumstances, the characters, their motivations and the fictional world are completely different.
