The early '00s were a fascinating time for animated shows. You still had plenty of genre-heavy cartoons that followed in the tradition of Saturday morning shows and the kind of experimental and irreverent tones of early Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon projects. But there was also a wave of cartoon comedy-dramas about tweens and teens that took a rather grounded approach to telling stories, while still offering some cartoony weirdness that makes them stand out -- shows like "As Told By Ginger," "The Weekenders," "Hey Arnold," and also "The Proud Family."
"The Proud Family," in particular, was a big deal for its time. It was one of the first animated shows with a Black creator and a Black cast, and it tackled complex themes like race and religion. Like "The Simpsons," it created a world filled with memorable side characters and one-off characters that made the world feel lived-in.

(Welcome to My Most Ridiculous Note, a series of interviews in which animators talk about the weirdest and funniest notes they received from studio executives.)
"Kim Possible" was only the second animated series made for Disney Channel (after "The Proud Family"), and it quickly became one of the cable channel's most popular shows. It's easy to see why: It had action, it had comedy, and it had one of the coolest Disney pets ever.
One of the minds behind the show, co-creator Mark McCorkle, has been in the industry long enough to see it go from being dominated by toy commercials to exploding with original (and not-so-original) ideas and genres. He's worked on everything from "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" and Hasbro's "Cops" to "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" and "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command."

Following their collaboration on “Ginger,” Burna Boy Wizkid join forces yet again for “B. d’Or,” a collaboration first revealed during Wizkid’s sold-out run at O2 Arena in London earlier this month. The song takes its name from the Ballon d’Or, a prestigious professional soccer trophy for extraordinary male players, and finds the Nigerian superstars exchanging slick boasts in their native Pidgin and Yoruba dialects.

The story behind New York Ninja is almost as incredible as the film itself. In 1984 Taiwanese martial artist and actor John Liu came to New York City with the intention of filming his latest movie there. While he did shoot it, he was so unimpressed by the results he abandoned the project and left the unedited footage in a vault and retired from filmmaking. An there it sat for thirty-five years later the footage came into the hands of film restoration specialists Vinegar Syndrome. They had the technology, they could rebuild it, all except for one critical element. The film’s soundtrack was missing, as was the script.
So they wrote a new one, not a spoof but authentic-sounding 80s style dialogue. And they hired a...

Jane Withers, a former child star known for her roles in “Bright Eyes” and “Ginger” and as the commercial character Josephine the Plumber, has died. She was 95.
Withers’ death was confirmed by her daughter, Kendall Errair. She died Saturday evening surrounded by her loved ones in Burbank, Calif. The cause of death was not disclosed.
“My mother was such a special lady,” Errair said in a statement. “She lit up a room with her laughter, but she especially radiated joy and thankfulness when talking about the career she so loved and how lucky she was.”
Born on April 12, 1926 in Atlanta, Ga., Withers was already a seasoned show business professional by the time she was six. Withers’ mother was so determined to have her make it as a star that she named her Jane so that “even with a long last name like Withers, it would fit on a marquee.”

We’re pretty sure that the queen eliminated from Episode 4 of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6 was kidding when she cursed out her fellow contestants as she sashayed away — but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t seething.
Let’s start by getting last week’s leftover drama out of the way: Fresh off Silky Nutmeg Ganache’s sad-but-deserved elimination, the remaining queens convened in the Werk Room to reveal whose lipstick they chose — and it was shockingly close. The final tally showed six votes for Silky, barely edging out A’keria C. Davenport’s four. Eureka, Ginger Minj and...

If the only thing better than “Candle In The Wind” is “5,000 Candles In The Wind,” then the only thing better than Mouse Rat being a fake band on “Parks and Recreation” is Mouse Rat being a real band, fronted by Chris Pratt in real life. It’s happening, and their first album is coming.
Mouse Rat — who, according to their official Instagram page, is managed by April Ludgate-Dwyer — will spread their wings and fly on “The Awesome Album,” which is set to drop on August 27. We have Tom Haverford’s (Aziz Ansari) Entertainment 720 to thank for this album, as they’ve partnered up with Dualtone Music Group to make the album happen.

It has been over 25 years since The Little Rascals first premiered. The 1994 version of the film is a remake of the original TV shorts that came out in the 1950s. Since the film is still popular today, many fans wonder where their faves are now and where their careers took them.
For some of the stars, their roles were the start of a big acting career but that's not the same for everyone. Some actors even left the industry altogether. Here's where the cast is now.

A lot of the stars of The Little Rascals are still acting, and you may recognize them from some well-known projects. Brandon "Bug" Hall was one of them, until he took a vow of poverty and now lives on a farm with his wife, Jill, and their five daughters.

Brockhampton take a wild ride in their new video for “Buzzcut” featuring Danny Brown.
In the new clip directed and edited by Dan Streit with creative direction by Kevin Abstract, the band is seen cruising around in a car on a ride where the landscape morphs. The trip gets stranger throughout the visual, which includes multicolored puke, the band and Danny Brown wrestling, and monster transformations and chases in color-saturated settings featuring animated backdrops.
In addition to Brown contributing a verse, the song features in-house producer Jabari Manwa’s background vocals.

25 best redheads ever, ranked, including Lucille Ball, Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain and more [Photos]
Only about two percent of the world’s population has natural red hair, so it’s not surprising that the rest of us are a bit fascinated by the few who are born with it, and why so many entertainers choose that color to distinguish themselves from their competition. Today, we celebrate some of our favorites on “Kiss a Ginger Day” for January 12.
Red hair has been a color of choice for many leading ladies, with vibrant shades from strawberry blond to deep auburn, either from nature or a bottle, lighting up both the big and small screens. Several leading ladies from the Golden Era of Hollywood were known for their red tresses, most notably Irish-born Maureen O’Hara and WWII pinup favorite Rita Hayworth. Currently, there are dozens of actresses who are either natural-born redheads or have sported the color for most of their careers, including Jessica Chastain, Amy Adams,...

Actress Tina Louise, forever linked to her fellow Gilligan’s Island castmate Dawn Wells, remembered her today as “a very wonderful person.”
Wells died Wednesday of complications from Covid-19 at age 82.
Louise has kept a low profile regarding Gilligan’s Island over the years, declining to appear in any of the revivals or reboots or even discuss the show, which ended in 1967 but lives on in syndication.
Speaking via Twitter and later to the New York Post, Louise said she wanted everyone to remember Wells’s sunny disposition.
“Dawn was a very wonderful person. I want people to remember her as someone who always had a smile on her face,” Louise told the New York Post. “Nothing is more important than family and she was family. She will always be remembered.”

It's true; you get more bees with honey than with vinegar.
Perhaps if Margaret and Eric took heed of her very words, then they wouldn't have bitten off more than they could chew with Ginger and her brothers on Filthy Rich Season 1 Episode 1.
With lies, scandals, betrayal, backstabbing, and a sprinkling of Jesus, Filthy Rich isn't reinventing the wheel here, but it's sinfully delicious, primetime-soap goodness.
Filthy Rich feels like Dynasty meets Empire with shades of the late, beloved series Gcb (Good Christian B*tches) and Grand Hotel. It has camp and drama, but it also has the potential to be a heck of a lot of fun.
We're in an age where escapist TV is much-needed but rarely delivered -- or appreciated when it is. It's something I've griped about before, which is why Filthy Rich is such a comfort.
The pilot laid out the platform on which the series will build.

I'm fully convinced Brockhampton remixed their song "Sugar" with Dua Lipa for me. Like, specifically me. What other explanation is there for two of my most played artists to suddenly collaborate? I've been secretly hoping Bh would do an unexpected mashup, and here we are now, jamming to the surprise altered R&b tune from their 2019 album, Ginger.
The track, which dropped on March 6, also features singers Jon B and Ryan Beatty, who was on the original version. After Ciarán "Bearface" McDonald opens with a nod to Usher's 1997 hit "Nice & Slow," Dua Lipa croons a verse, saying, "I move mountains on my own / Don't need nobody's help / I've been looking after me like only I can watch my back." And, yes, Joba even gets an added verse at the end (Where my Joba stans at?!). Meanwhile, the accompanying visual simply shows Matt Champion sitting on a basketball hoop, rocking his signature cool,...

Dua Lipa and Jon B have joined forces with everyone’s favorite boy band Brockhampton for their new remix of “Sugar,” from the group’s 2019 album Ginger. It also features Ryan Beatty, who appears in the original version.
On the new remix, the band members, Dua Lipa, Ryan Beatty and Jon B trade verses about yearning, longing and devotion. “I move mountains on my own/Don’t need nobody’s help,” Dua Lipa sings on her verse over the R&b groove. “I’ve been looking after me like only...

ABC has made a late addition to its pilot slate with the pick up of a single-camera comedy from Emily Kapnek.
The untitled project is described as a love story with a twist centering on New York City teenager Lennon Cochrane, whose life is turned upside down when she stumbles on a family secret. Lennon is further described as creative, rebellious, and endlessly indulged by her mother. She rarely heard the word no growing up. Raised to believe she could do anything, Lennon never worried about fitting into any conventional box. She found music early and it became the primary outlet for her self-expression. When her city life is upended, she struggles to adjust to her new circumstances.
Kapnek will write and executive produce the pilot under her Specifica Productions banner, with Dean Holland attached to direct in addition to executive producing. Holland and Kapnek developed the story together. ABC Studios,...

Ginger ain't talking, at least not yet. A revival of the cancelled As Told by Ginger TV series is not currently in the works at Nickelodeon, even though it arguably should be. The show was noted for its continuity, character development, and wardrobe changes not common to animation.
The original As Told by Ginger cartoon ran for three seasons. A Nickelodeon source tells Fuse: "As much as we love As Told By Ginger, there are no immediate plans for a reboot at this time. There is no validity to the MoviePilot story."

Ginger should tell us, herself. MoviePilot.com reported that Nickelodeon is reviving the animated As Told by Ginger TV series. The story claimed to have been an exclusive with Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon Group President for Content Development and Production, and Chris Viscardi, Senior Vice President, Content Development at Nickelodeon Franchise Properties.
Update: We are sorry to report that, per Nick, there is no validity to this rumor.
Although widely circulated and seemingly legitimate, MoviePilot.com has taken down the original piece. It quotes Hicks as saying, "Kids who grew up on these characters are now of the age that they are having kids and families themselves.” Reportedly, series creator Emily Kapnek is on board as Ep. It is possible MoviePilot.com published, ahead of the getting the green light from Nick. It is also possible it is a hoax.

Attention, children of the '90s: The Internet has provided us with yet another way to relive our childhoods, and this one's even cooler than nostalgia programming blocks on Nick at Nite: Nick Reboot, a new website that's livestreaming vintage Nickelodeon shows -- commercials included! -- for your viewing pleasure.
The shows logged on the site originally aired between the early '90s and the early '00s, so there's a wide range of programming to be had. There's "Roundhouse," "You Can't Do That on Television," and "Finders Keepers" on one end, and "The Fairly Odd Parents," "As Told By Ginger," and "The Wild Thornberrys" on the other.
It's a particularly great resource for shows like "The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo," "Space Cases," "What Would You Do?" or "The Secret Word of Alex Mack," beloved shows that haven't aired anywhere recently and are hard to find on DVD. There's...

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.

Warner Bros. Television has just locked in the talented showrunner for its ABC comedy, "Suburgatory." Emily Kapnek has inked a two-year overall deal with the studio, TheWrap confirms. Under the pact, she will continue on in her post as "Suburgatory's" showrunner. Additionally, she'll develop new projects for the studio. Aside from "Suburgatory," Kapnek's producing credits include NBC's "Parks and Recreation," HBO's "Hung," and The CW's "Aliens in America." On Wednesday (Sept. 28), "Suburgatory" joins ABC's family-focused line-up as a sort of bridge between "The Middle" and "Modern Family," but where the established shows are straight-forward comedic takes on family life, "Suburgatory" takes a different tack: It delivers laughs, for sure, but with a brainy, subversive and sometimes absurdist edge.
Jeremy Sisto ("Law & Order") stars as George Altman, an architect who gets spooked when he finds a box of condoms in teenaged daughter Tessa's (Jane Levy) room and uproots her to live in a generic suburb.

And, having grown up in suburbia ourselves,...

If you've moved on from adolescence at any point in the last 11 years and don't have any children of your own, it may surprise you to know that Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob, SquarePants" is still on the air.
After debuting back in 1999, the cartoon about a naive, possibly gay sea creature remains the network's highest rated animated series. And Deadline reports that its just been given the green light on a ninth season.
This next batch of 26 episodes, set to debut sometime in 2012, will push the series over the 200-episode mark. It's quite a feat on its own, but when you look at how long other iconic "Nicktoons" lasted, its even more impressive.
Here's how "SpongeBob" stacks up:
1. "SpongeBob, SquarePants" (1999 - present)
When it completes Season 9, the "SpongeBob" episode count will stand at 204 -- and that doesn't even include the movies or specials.
2. "Rugrats" (1991-2004)
