In the early 80's, Rahul Rawail made a number of successful films like Love Story, Biwi o Biwi, Betaab, Arjun, Samundar etc. His journey started with Love Story where he introduced Kumar Gaurav and Vijeta Pandit. But very few know that this movie was not fully directed by Rahul Rawail. While the making of the film Rahul Rawail and producer Rajendra Kumar had some creative differences. Rawail also wanted to start Betaab which was the launchpad for Sunny Deol, hence he started to lose focus on this project. So there was a fallout between Rajendra Kumar and Rahul Rawail. It was the editor David Dhawan who came to Rajendra Kumar's rescue and finished the film without taking the credit and the final product was a big success.
The only big hit of Kumar Gaurav and Vijeta Pandit as solo hero and heroine.
The first idea was for Manoj Kumar to direct Kumar Gaurav's debut, under Rajendra Kumar's production. Manoj politely declined and told Rajendra he now has his own banner and is working on Kranti. This surprised Rajendra as he thought Manoj would say yes as Rajendra had got Manoj his first hit film Hariyali Aur Raasta .
Rajendra Kumar produced Love Story to launch his son Kumar Gaurav in Bollywood. The Film became a big success, making Kumar Gaurav an overnight star.
Tina Munim was first approached for the film. She declined as she had just signed Rocky opposite Sanjay Dutt.
