A lot of Burbank Films Australia/Animated Studios animations were among my childhood favourites. Peter Pan is no exception, in fact it is my personal of their animations along with Wind in the Willows(also from 1988). Is it my favourite version? No, for me that's the TV series Peter Pan and the Pirates, but this is a lovely, nostalgic version that does deserve to stand on its own. It is a perfect introduction to children who have not seen any other version or perhaps even read the timeless but complex(in character that is, especially in the case of Captain Hook) JM Barrie classic. Burbank's Peter Pan also succeeds in being fun and creative in its own way, with smooth and mostly colourful animation and very simple and soothing music that adds much to the fantasy atmosphere. The script has many charming(Wendy talking about the creatures inhabiting Neverland) and humorous(Hook's It was a dark and stormy night) moments, the message is a sweet and I think important one and the story has a certain innocence and sense of adventure to it. The characters are not as complex as the book, then again this is a 50 minute animated adaptation where things will be condensed and such, but they are still likable. Captain Hook is especially delightful with his facial expressions and clever dialogue. Two of the pirates may come across as stereotypical(in a negative way) to some(a friend I saw this with thought so which is why I brought it up), but I personally saw no real problem and wasn't offended. All in all, lovely and creative and for me one of Burbank's best. 9/10 Bethany Cox
