Leducq & Partners is a small but successful lawyers office in Brussels. The 60 year old Paul Emile Leducq is the founder and has two partners: 31 year old Gabriël Nukerke and 30 year old Chris Haagdoorn. Although the business mainly runs on lucrative financial and civil cases and divorces, Chris feels more for the criminal cases. She takes on the case of Hugo Van Eyck, an inspector of judicial police. He's being prosecuted by drugs dealer and pimp Van Limburg for falsifying an official report. He did that to protect an informant. When a prostitute finally wants to testify, she is found dead in her bath with her wrists slashed. Hugo and Chris are convinced Van Limburg had her murdered and go and investigate.

A batch of highly dangerous synthetic drugs are found during a search at the teener Bjorn's house. Two customers of Bjorn are fighting for their lives in intensive care. Chris gets a temporary leave for Bjorn pending his trial. Chris and Hugo have a very different opinion about the matter from each other. To Hugo Bjorn is a bird before a cat. To Chris Bjorn is simply someone from deprived surroundings. Someone who didn't get any changes when he was younger. But Chris doesn't get Bjorn to confess who he works for. When Bjorn's customers die, everything explodes.

Karen, Hugo's niece, is raped by her boss J.C. Pickery. A broken Karen lets off steam with hate-mail on the Internet. After a fight at the office, Karen is fired by J.C. Hugo introduces Karen to Chris. There follows more agony. The police think Karen might have been frustrated, because she was fired, and that's why she filed the complaint. The doctor can't find any physical evidence for the rape. Chris and Hugo decide to pay J.C.P. a visit.

Chris defends Marc Vereeck, who stands trial for murder. Marc caught an intruder during the night who threatened him with a knife. Marc hit the man with a baseball bat. The intruder, a colleague citizen guard, died during the incident. Chris pleads for self defense, but the prosecutor has some strong arguments. There was no knife found at the scene of the crime and Marc's wife Mia had an affair with the victim. In the mean time, Hugo discovers someone tampered with Mia's alarm system.

Hugo hurts his knee during a benefit football game. At the physiotherapists he is witness of Sven's arrest. Sven is suspected of murder on his ex-employer. Hugo meets Mariska, Sven's daughter and MS-patient. Hugo convinces Chris to defend him. In court it appears Sven's alibi is a lie. Chris and Hugo disagree about the case. Chris tries to convince Sven to plead guilty, but Hugo believes in Sven's innocence.
