Director Todd Phillips insists he won’t be making Joker 3, and that Joker: Folie A Deux will bring his take on the story to an end.
Director Todd Phillips is back on the promotional trail, as the release date looms for his high-profile sequel, Joker: Folie A Deux. The sequel to the billion dollar, Oscar-winning Joker movie brings Joaquin Phoenix back to the title role, joined this time by Lady Gaga as well.
Phillips sprung to profile off the back of his comedy work, with movies such as The Hangover trilogy and Road Trip. The jump to Joker was a surprise, but there’s little denying it paid off. Still, in a new conversation with Variety, Phillips has been suggesting that those looking for a Joker 3 are likely to be disappointed.

Fans of DC Comics were offered a treat in October, 2019, with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker taking the world by storm. The movie set the town ablaze (quite literally), with a performance that was so gritty and macabre that many would begin to doubt that it fell in the same genre as Avengers: Endgame. But director Todd Phillips’ gambit paid off. And that seems to have emboldened him to take a greater risk with the sequel – one which could even spell its doom.

Fans of Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck/Joker shouldn’t get their hopes up for Joker 3. In a new Variety cover story, Joker: Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips effectively ended any speculation of another sequel.
“It was fun to play in this sort of sandbox for two movies, but I think we’ve said what we wanted to say in this world,” Phillips shared. Instead, he would like to go back to making comedy movies.
Sharing his belief that “people really want comedies right now,” Phillips explained, “The trailer for Joker 2 sort of sums things up when it says, ‘What the world needs now is love.’ But I would go farther: We could use a good laugh, too.”
However, this doesn’t automatically mean Phillips is cutting off his partnership with Phoenix. The filmmaker admitted, “I’d love to keep working with Joaquin but on a comedy, because...

It all started with Joaquin Phoenix’s dream.
Shortly before shooting wrapped on “Joker,” Phoenix confessed to Todd Phillips, the filmmaker who had reimagined Batman’s greatest enemy as an aspiring stand-up with a Travis Bickle complex, that he wasn’t ready to leave the character behind. When he fell asleep one night, Phoenix had a vision of Arthur Fleck, the man behind Joker’s clown makeup, performing onstage, telling jokes and singing.
“Todd was in the wings talking to me through a headset,” Phoenix remembers. “I woke up feeling elated and called him, hoping he’d want to do a show with me.”
Even before “Joker” went on to earn more than $1 billion in 2019, the pair were already thinking about a follow-up. They discussed the prospect of taking their act to Broadway, at least until reality set in.
“When we started really thinking about it, we realized it takes...

Duane Eddy, the legendary guitarist who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, has passed away at the age of 86. He died of cancer on Tuesday (April 30th), surrounded by family members at Williamson Health hospital in Franklin, Tennessee.
Eddy is considered the most commercially successful instrumental musician in the history of rock ‘n’ roll, thanks in large part to his signature tunes like “Rebel-‘Rouser,” “Peter Gunn,” and “Because They’re Young.” By 1963, he had sold an estimated 12 million records.
The guitarist was known for his twangy sound and his collaborative work with producer Lee Hazlewood. His extensive album discography spanned from his 1958 debut, Have ‘Twangy’ Guitar Will Travel, through 2011’s Road Trip.
John Fogerty once dubbed Eddy the “the first rock ‘n’ roll guitar god.” His 1987 album, Duane Eddy & The Rebels, truly showed his influence, as it featured guest appearances by Fogerty, George Harrison, Paul McCartney,...

“Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show” can trace its origins back to at least one unlikely source: disgraced former U.S. representative Anthony Weiner.
Before the series from creators Carmichael, Ari Katcher, and Eli Despres, which premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival, Carmichael’s pie-in-the-sky idea was to play a version of Weiner in the project that ultimately became “Reality Show.” And that prospect was initially even more compelling to the creators than the series that resulted.
“Can we just make a movie of Jerrod trying to get ‘Weiner’ made?” Despres recalled onstage after the series’ SXSW premiere.
And while that premise isn’t without its intrigue, the “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show” that eventually came to be is something else entirely. It is, simply, a docuseries about the comedian’s life that dwells deeply, sometimes uncomfortably, on his relationships with love, sex, and loneliness. The three episodes shown were “Emmys,” “Mike,...

As the aftereffects of the writers’ and actors’ strikes hit streaming in a big way, there’s not a lot of new content to offer subscribers early in 2024. Hulu still has some interesting things to offer in January, though.

Seann William Scott is the latest actor speaking out about their small paycheck in light of the actor’s strike.
The “American Pie” star — who played the iconic role of Stifler — says he went from starring in the 1999 hit to working as the churro guy at the LA zoo after he was only paid $8,000 for the entire movie.
Scott made the shocking claim while appearing on the “Rick Eisen Show”. The two played a game of truth or dare when he was asked if it was true that “American Pie” was his first feature-length film and whether he was only paid the four-figure number.
“I think so, yeah, because I remember afterwards I bought a used Thunderbird for like $5,000 or maybe $6,000, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby’,” he said. “I don’t know what happened to the other $2,000 because I ended up having to work at the LA Zoo as a churro guy,...

While American Pie was one of the biggest comedy hits of the nineties, grossing over $235 million on an $11 million budget (and millions more on DVD), one of its stars received a pretty paltry salary. Seann William Scott, who stole the movie as the breakout character Stifler, was a newcomer to movies at the time and, according to a recent interview, only earned $8000 for his role.
According to Deadline, Scott told T.V. host Rick Elsen that he was so broke after the movie that he went to work at the L.A. Zoo as a Churro guy. He spent most of the check buying a used Thunderbird, saying that while it sounds like very little money, “it was a lot of money for me at the time.”

Daniel Goldberg, the co-screenwriter of “Stripes” and producer of feature comedies like “Space Jam,” “Old School” and the “Hangover” trilogy, died Wednesday at age 74.
A frequent collaborator of directors Ivan Reitman and Todd Phillips and actor Bill Murray, who in addition to “Stripes” starred in the Goldberg co-penned “Meatballs,” Goldberg is survived by his wife, fellow Canadian film producer Ilona Herzberg, and his brother, “Deuce Bigalow” screenwriter Harris Goldberg. Goldberg and Reitman first met in 1966 at McMaster University, where they went on to make several short films together (many of which starred a young “Schitt’s Creek” Emmy winner Eugene Levy) and cofounded a film society — not without kicking up some controversy,...

Goldberg died Wednesday in Los Angeles, his brother, Deuce Bigalow screenwriter Harris Goldberg, told The Hollywood Reporter. “He was a gentle, lovely guy, he was my hero,” Harris said. “He was everything I measured myself against.”
No cause of death was immediately available.
Survivors also include his wife, British Columbia native Ilona Herzberg, a producer on films including The River Wild, Evan Almighty, Waterworld, Rachel Getting Married and Feds, the 1988 comedy that starred Rebecca De Mornay and Mary Gross and was the only feature her husband directed in Hollywood.

Director, producer and screenwriter Jason Reitman, son of director Ivan Reitman, is paying tribute to his late father’s dear friend, writer-producer Daniel Goldberg, who died today at 74. Goldberg was a writer and/or producer on several of Ivan Reitman’s films and a father figure to Jason. Here is his first-person remembrance.
Dan Goldberg is the writer and producer of some of your favorite films. He made a career of dangerous outsider comedies that often-challenged comfort zones, yet he was one of the kindest and most gentle souls I’ve ever known. This morning, he passed away in Los Angeles.

After their intended Broadway residency last fall didn’t quite go as planned, Weezer are going back to the drawing board. Not only is Rivers Cuomo drumming up a new musical, but he’s crowdsourcing some pre-production help from fans, according to a tweet he posted Thursday morning.
“Does anybody want to help me write the story for a musical (which would be the next Weezer album),” Cuomo wrote. “We could make a follow-up to [Songs from the Black Hole] or start afresh.”
Per Weezerpedia, Songs from the Black Hole is an unfinished, space-themed rock opera Cuomo first began demoing in 1994. It was originally meant to follow-up The Blue Album, but somewhere along the way, the band decided it was “a lame idea” and scrapped the concept. Some of its songs did evolve into tracks on their sophomore album Pinkerton, however, including an early iteration of “Tired of Sex.”

Gino D’Acampo has hinted that “arguments” have forced him to quit Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip.
The TV chef has withdrawn from the ITV series, which he co-starred in alongside Gordon Ramsay and Fred Sirieix.
D’Acampo made the announcement in an Instagram post on Sunday (19 March), explaining that his decision was inspired by a desire to protect his friendships with both Ramsay and Sirieix.
According to D’Acampo, his hand was forced by scheduling conflicts caused by production, which has caused “complications”.
“Last week, I decided not to film any more Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip,” he said. “The reason is simple... nothing to do with Gordon and Fred – the friendship is very strong – it’s just because we can’t get the dates together.”

A comment Fred Sirieix made about Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip has resurfaced in the wake of his co-star’s decision to quit.
On Sunday (19 March), Gino D’Acampo revealed he would no longer be a part of the series due to “problems” behind-the-scenes.
In a video shared with his social media followers, the celebrity chef said that “complications” with contracts had led to his decision, and said he would rather quit than damage his friendship with both Sirieix and Gordon Ramsay.
Just 10 days ago, during a chat with Lorraine Kelly on the ITV morning show Lorraine, Sirieix addressed these complications, stating: “We are talking about dates for the next one. It is difficult to juggle all of our diaries.”
He told MailOnline the previous week, while promoting his latest series, Fred’s Last Resort: “It is a bit difficult to juggle all our diaries, but we are getting there.

Taylor Swift fans are divided after a video from one of her previous concerts gained attention on TikTok.
The “Anti-Hero” hitmaker recently kicked off her Eras tour in Arizona, which The Independent gave five stars in a review of the show.

The reason for weatherman Rob Marciano’s lengthy Good Morning America absence has been allegedly “revealed”.
Since 2014, Marciano has been employed as ABC’s senior meteorologist, providing extensive weather coverage across the network.
But GMA viewers noticed that Marciano has not been presenting from the studio since November 2022, with many social media users wondering why this was.
It’s now being claimed that Marciano has been “banned” from New York’s Times Square Studios, where GMA is filmed, after allegedly making a colleague feel “uncomfortable”.
A source told Page Six that Marciano was accused of “improper” behaviour and “was punished for it”.
While the alleged incident has not been divulged, it’s been claimed by a separate source that it occurred in the wake of Marciano’s divorce from his wife, Eryn, which was announced in July 2022.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has cast an ex-Game of Thrones star, months after another big GoT name dropped out.
It was announced on Monday (20 March) that three new actors will appear in the forthcoming season.
These include Rory Kinnear, Tanya Moodie and Irish actor Ciarán Hinds, who appeared in HBO series Thrones as Mance Rayder as well as the cable channel’s Rome, playing Julius Caesar.
His casting comes after Joseph Mawle, who played Benjen Stark in Thrones, quit the role of Adar following the conclusion of season one.
Mawle made his debut as the orc leader when the show, based on the work of Jrr Tolkien, was released on Prime Video in September.
He took centre stage as the series progressed, and by the end of the season, is shown to become “king of the Southlands” before changing the location’s name to...

We have even more clarity about why Sammi’s finally ready to be part of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. Sammi’s timing has everything to do with Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, which was one of the reasons we speculated Sam chose to come back.

Entertainment, news, and the paranormal are connected more than you might think. I find it interesting that every person in the paranormal community I’ve talked with is also a horror nerd like me—the horror genre and belief in the unexplained are undeniably intertwined.
That’s why for this month’s Dead Time, I wanted to talk with paranormal journalist, TV host, podcaster, and fellow spooky nerd Aaron Sagers.
During his extensive career as a journalist, Sagers has appeared on numerous TV shows and online videos. The Irish director and musician John Carney once made a movie under the working title “Can a Song Save Your Life?,” though the name was changed before it was released. And another batch of Dublin musicians of note ask a similar question in the documentary “Kiss the Future,” which premiered on Sunday at the Berlin International Film Festival and finds U2 using music to aid the occupants of a city under siege, Sarajevo.

Joker is a movie directed by Todd Phillips starring Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy.
The most awaited movie of the year leads us to a bitter social denouncement in which no one is left standing, that merges satire and flight of fancy. A kick in the mouth for movies about super heroes and the industry.
Joker is the movie of the year, no matter what they say, and mentioning Joaquin Phoenix as an Oscar winner is no longer a pipe dream nor is this movie a clear-cut candidate for the award that, I am afraid, will not receive it.
Storyline Joker (2019)
Arthur Fleck is a comedian (a clown) with a disreputable life that leads him to madness…(maybe not so much). He is considerably pissed off with society and will make someone pay.
About the Movie
Very, very good. Crude, cruel, an uncomfortable fusion of extremes that we love.

As the calendar flips over to 2023, Prime Video is attempting to start a new year on the right track with fresh seasons of some major originals.
Prime Videos’ list of new releases for January 2023 is highlighted by Hunters season 2 on Jan. 13. The first season of Hunters was set in 1977 and followed young Jonah Heidelbaum’s (Logan Lerman) introduction to a world of Nazi-hunting. After a lengthy wait for season 2, the fresh (and final) batch of episodes will find Jonah and friends venturing to South American to take out none other than Adolf Hitler, himself.
While Nazi-hunting undoubtedly takes up a lot of streaming space, two other Amazon original series of note arrive in January. The Rig, a supernatural thriller set on a Scottish oil rig, premieres Jan. 6. That will be followed by season 2 of fantasy role-playing animated series The Legend of Vox Machina on Jan. 20.

There are few tasks in Hollywood harder than making a sequel which improves on the original. Writing a follow-up to a bonafide modern Christmas classic, however, might be one of them!
When Elf first arrived in theaters back in November 2003, few could have predicted it would go on to become one of the most beloved Christmas movies of the 21st century. Yet Elf was that rare example of cinematic lighting in a bottle; the coming together of actors and filmmakers destined for big things.
Will Ferrell was a fast-rising comedic star fresh from Saturday Night Live and having only recently stolen the show in Todd Phillips’ frat house comedy Old School. Zooey Deschanel had a string of credits to her name, but it was Elf that helped establish the “manic pixie dream girl” persona that would bring her repeated success in the decade that followed. The final season of This Is Us hit the air Tuesday night.
This Is Us Season 6 Episode 1 managed 5.3 million total viewers and a 1.0 rating in the demo.
The numbers mark the lowest-rated and least-watched premiere to date, but it is rare for anything to rise in today's TV climate.
The positive is that the numbers mark the best demo tally for the soon-to-conclude drama since February.
New Amsterdam returned at 3.3 million viewers and a 0.4 rating, steady with its fall finale.
Earlier in the night for NBC, American Auto (2.4 million/0.4 rating) and Grand Crew (1.6 million/0.3 rating) had weak results.
Over on CBS, FBI returned at 8.3 million viewers and a 0.7 rating, leading the night in the demo.
International (5.9 million/0.5 rating) and Most Wanted (5.3 million/0.4 rating) were both on the downside on the night.
Over on ABC, Judge Steve Harvey got off the ground running, managing a robust 4.9 million viewers and a 0.7 rating.

Retrospective special The Price Is Right Celebrates 50 Years on CBS was the big winner of the final Wednesday primetime of 2021.
Earning a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.95 million viewers, the repeat airing of the CBS special led the pack as the night’s highest-rated and most-watched program. Not too shabby for a rerun, considering that previous repeat broadcasts haven’t earned beyond a 0.5 demo rating since the primetime holiday break started. This is the second week in a row that CBS has won Wednesday primetime with The Price Is Right-related content. Last week, CBS ruled Wednesday with The Price Is Right at Night.
That said, other networks’ repeat-filled primetime slates on Wednesday didn’t perform as well. Following its black-ish marathon on Tuesday, ABC’s Wednesday schedule thrust The Wonder Years into the spotlight. At the top of Wednesday’s six-episode marathon, The Wonder Years earned a...
