Nicholas Blake, the author of the source novel, is the pen name for Cecil Day-Lewis, the father of Daniel Day-Lewis.
In spite of being a Spanish language film, and considering the political and economic conditions in Argentina during the time of filming, when Mr. Carter and Martie return from their outing on the sailboat and stop to chat with Mrs. Anderson, the sign on her store is composed entirely in English, "BOOKS... CAPE GOLD'S STAR... CIGARETTES". Also consistent with the English language source novel, the names of the characters are largely Anglo in nature as opposed to Spanish.
