A picture that might have been taken from some elaborately planned novel. The plot is complicated, yet, after the first few scenes, the story is clear and it holds the interest. One is not carried away by anything that happens, even by the wrecking of a bridge which is very realistic, except in the attitude of the players who stood near by. So, in the story, while it absorbs the mind waiting for the outcome of the tangle, there is very often a part that isn't believed. The backgrounds add to the value of the whole and there is much artistic quality in the arrangement and management of the scenes. On the whole, it is a good offering. - The Moving Picture World, November 1, 1913
