Striker opens and closes with the tension around the slums during the 1992 riots. The on-location shooting brings to the proceedings a kind of clipped and cutting edge and an intimate immediacy. You feel you are there in the slums with Arora’s characters. But you aren’t sure you want to be there. We never stay long enough with the characters to get to know them well.
Film editor-director Chandan Arora’s Striker was not an easy film to make. It’s not an easy film to see either. The vast near-epic scale scope and expanse of the slum saga stretches into two hours of a non-linear narration where time passages are made without borders. The lack of punctuation marks in the telling of the tale of the coming of age and rage of the protagonist Surya (a striking Siddharth) is a major detriment in identifying the swarm of characters...

New Delhi, May 1 (Ians) More than three decades before Aamir Khan’s train stunt in “Ghulam” (1998), this actor, renowned for his natural performances, had already done such a hazardous exploit, not just a daredevil challenge on the screen, but to inject reality into the scene and save the filmmaker the “bother of back projection”.
Balraj Sahni also involved Meena Kumari in his risky ruse in “Pinjre ke Panchhi” (1966), which — in another strange resemblance with Aamir’s film — was shot at Khandala. The scene had her walking on the rail tracks in a bid to commit suicide, even as he ran after her and managed to pull her aside from the rushing train at the last minute.
The filmmaker only wanted shots of him running after her and pulling her away; those of the were to be juxtapositioned. Sahni, however, knew that a train would pass the spot soon, and if they moved fast,...

"I found Bimal Roy at his desk, writing something, when I entered his cabin. As he stopped writing and looked up, he appeared to be taken aback. He fixed me with a steady gaze and kept staring at me in silence… After a while, he turned to the people seated at the rear end of the cabin and said to them in Bengali: ‘Is this the man you had in mind? What sort of a joke are you playing on me?’
"Apparently, he wasn’t aware that I knew Bengali. Without even offering me a seat, he said to me, ‘Mr. Sahni, my men have made a mistake. I can see that you are totally unsuited to play the sort of role I wish to present in my film’," Balraj Sahni wrote in his autobiography ‘Meri Filmi Atamkatha’.

Mumbai, March 16 (Ians) Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji remembered the shooting of the movie ‘Ghulam’ and how even after having high fever her co-star Aamir Khan continued to work without taking any break and this became an inspiration for her to give importance to work.
When Rani listened to ‘Indian Idol 13’ contestant Senjuti Das’s rendition of ‘Jadoo Hai Tera’ from Vikram Bhatt’s 1998 film ‘Ghulam’, she recollected her shooting days with Aamir in Manali, Himachal Pradesh.
Rani told Senjuti: “When you started singing the song from ‘Ghulam’, I had flashbacks because when I started filming for ‘Ghulam,’ I was only 17 years old. Aamir Khan, who is one of India’s biggest stars, was opposite me. I very well remember that we were shooting in Manali for the song and Aamir was down with a high fever. Around that time, I witnessed the dedication of an artist who continued to work even with a fever.

Kanye West and Julia Fox flamed out fast: the couple have broken up after a whirlwind two-month romance that spawned headlines and many matching outfits. Fox's representative confirmed the news to Us Weekly on Feb. 14. The statement read, "Julia and Kanye remain good friends and collaborators but they are no longer together."
When rumors of the breakup first hit, Fox responded to a Daily Mail headline that alleged she had been crying at the airport after wiping her Instagram feed of photos with West. Fox wrote, "I haven't cried since 1997 and I especially wouldn't cry over This!!" She said her distressed look was over being "late for a plane to go see the only men that matter which is my son and my dad."

Note: Contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett, and is written assuming you’ve watched the whole thing.
Now the dust has settled on the Book of Boba Fett, its last episode retreating into the distance like Mando’s souped-up Naboo fighter, Grogu’s ears flapping in the wind, we can look back on the series as a whole piece. It’s our opportunity to see how it all fitted together; to tease out its core ideas, unpack its themes, appreciate it as a wider piece of work within a wider piece of work and finally, ask ourselves … what the hell was that?
It’s painful to hate on Star Wars. Anything that puts you on the same side as the dudebro mob that so pathetically whaled on The Last Jedi (which was brilliant) can make you feel like you need a very hot shower and a very stiff scrubbing brush.

Star Wars and action figures have gone hand in hand since the very first Kenner figures were hastily solicited in advance in the infamous “Early Bird Set” carboard box back in 1977. Thus, the notion of figures for imminently-debuting Disney+ television show The Book of Boba Fett being unveiled for releases that purportedly won’t occur until late-2022 is hardly unconventional. However, the touted figure photos do provide an intriguing glimpse at everyone’s favorite Sarlacc-surviving bounty hunter in his new, color-popping solo series duds.
Hasbro has provided an advance look at an inevitable accompaniment to The Book of Boba Fett with two key offerings from its Star Wars: The Black Series line of 6” scaled figures: Boba Fett and cohort in intergalactic crime Fennec Shand. Yet, the reveals come with caveats, since their scheduled respective releases are still quite far away, with the accessory-heavy deluxe Boba Fett (Throne Room) ($31.49) eyed for a Fall 2022 release,...

Boba Fett’s return last season on The Mandalorian finally confirmed an idea that was long-reflected across decades of Star Wars comics and novels, that being his escape from an alleged millennium of digestion within the belly of the dreaded Sarlacc. While clues were visible on Boba’s face, a full explanation about how he eluded that Return of the Jedi-dealt fate was not provided. Fortunately, it appears that imminent spinoff series The Book of Boba Fett is bringing the answers.

Slave of the Cannibal God
Blu ray
Code Red
1978/ 99 min.
Starring Ursula Andress, Stacy Keach
Cinematography by Giancarlo Ferrando
Directed by Sergio Martino
At the same moment the Korean War was ending and Eisenhower entered the White House, illustrator Samson Pollen found his niche; illuminating the fever dreams of suburban dads for action magazines from Man’s World to Stag. He enjoyed a long career and in 1978 he was handed an assignment right up his alley, a garish montage of anacondas, he-men and nearly-naked women. But his art for Slave of the Cannibal God turned out to be far from his best work. Blandly composed and indifferently executed, Pollen’s movie poster works best as a critique of the film itself.
Directed by Sergio Martino, this travelogue-cum-horror movie stars Ursula Andress, a paragon of beauty who built her brand on a supernatural physique and a come-hither gaze that might have inspired...

“Zola,” the A24 movie based on a viral Twitter thread, premiered to laughter and applause on Friday at the Sundance Film Festival. The film is based on a mostly true story tweeted in October 2015 by Aziah Wells King. King recounted, in highly entertaining fashion, her journey from Detroit to Tampa, Fla., with three near strangers, where she intended to make money stripping. But instead of a “harmless” sex-work weekend, the trip turned wild and dangerous.
Director Janicza Bravo — who wrote “Zola” with “Slave Play” playwright Jeremy O. Harris — said at the premiere that she became “immediately obsessed” with King’s story as the tweets unfolded. She said she asked her representation at the time about optioning a Twitter thread, but it had already been sold.

Call Aamir Khan a perfectionist, and he’ll lightheartedly brush off the label, preferring to describe himself as simply “passionate” instead. Terminology aside, a mere glance at his 28-year career is ample proof that for Khan, going the extra mile is practically the equivalent of slacking off—the 51-year-old actor, producer, and director usually travels another 10 for good measure.
He did it in 1998’s “Ghulam,” when he turned down a body double or special effects in favor of sprinting towards an oncoming train for a stunt, avoiding it by a mere second and gambling his life for the sake of realism.
In 1999, when a script about 19th century villagers protesting British land tax with a game of cricket was dismissed by every financier in Bollywood, Khan took on his first producing role alongside his acting credit to make the film. Three years of grueling production later, “Lagaan” became the third...

He shows off his dance moves while his onscreen daughters Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, who plays the role of Geeta and Babita in the film, perform dhobi pachhad slamming heavy weight wrestlers hard in the akhada (wrestling ring). After Aati Kya Khandala in his 1998 film Ghulam,...

Aamir Khan doesn't want to leave any stone unturned for his much ambitious venture Dangal which has been in the making for the past two years. The wrestling drama that unfolds by the end of this year will have the actor rapping to the beats. Though Aamir has previously sung for films like Ghulam, this is different we hear. The song is said to be a special addition in the film which is a biopic on real life wrestler Mahavir Phogat. In fact, it is also being said that the superstar has already started prepping for it and has been attending several sessions with music director Pritam and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya who have composed and written the song respectively. Knowing the kind of perfection that Aamir strives for, he has been holding several practice sessions before he records the song. Dangal also stars Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra...

Bollywood’s famous Bhatt camp has made hugely successful remakes of Hollywood films (Ghulam, Murder and Raaz, to name a few) but have not always been generous in giving credit to the original source. However, they have made a clean break with past tradition in their latest offering CityLights. The fact that the film is a remake of the British thriller Metro Manila is mentioned right in the opening credits at least half a dozen times. And it’s a welcome irony that this fully credited desi copy of a much acclaimed original is one of the most authentic products from the Bhatt camp in a long time.
CityLights, produced by Mukesh Bhatt and directed by Hansal Mehta (Shahid), is a novel and refreshing take on crime in the maximum city that eschews many clichés in favor of a moving, original human drama.

Queen of Bollywood, Queen of Hearts, Dil Ki Rani are just some of the words synonymous with Rani Mukerji. She debuted back in 1996 with the film Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat, which tanked at the box office. People started writing her off even before she emerged. But then came the turning points of her career, in the form of Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998, and she proved that she’s here to stay. While Ghulam gave her the title of ‘Khandala Girl’, while Kuch Kuch Hota Hai made people take notice of this amazing actor who had the ability and talent to stand her own ground in front of superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. She went onto win lots of accolades for both her films and there was no turning back. With her impeccable talent and infectious spontaneity, she ruled the industry and people’s hearts for several years.

Mumbai, Nov 25: There was a time when Rani Mukerji didn't have the courage to "look into Aamir Khan's eyes" and now is a time when she "keeps gazing into his eyes until he asks me not to".
They worked together for the first time in 1998 release "Ghulam". At that time Rani was a newcomer and Aamir was already a star with hits like "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak", "Dil" and "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander" to his credit.
After hit film "Ghulam", Rani−Aamir came together on screen after seven years for the not−so−successful historical drama "Mangal Pandey" and now they will be seen as a couple in forthcoming thriller "Talaash",.
