Samantha Morton took aim at Harvey Weinstein in a new appearance on “The Louis Theroux Podcast,” claiming that the convicted rapist and former media mogul tried to derail her career after she turned down a role in “About Adam.” Morton explained that she wasn’t interested in the Kate Hudson-led rom-com due to its treatment of women, but Weinstein tried to pressure her into taking the job.
“I said, ‘I don’t like it,’” Morton said, recalling her initial discussions about the script. “‘I think the film is really misogynistic and I don’t want to be part of it.’ The casting director came back with, ‘You don’t say no to Harvey.’ Well it’s not to him. I just don’t want to do this film… and I had just worked with Stuart Townsend on ‘Under the Skin.’ It was just not interesting to me. I was uber-polite.

Just when you thought you’d heard every “Harvey Weinstein is a monster” story, something new emerges.
The latest tale comes courtesy of Samantha Morton, who appeared on the Spotify’s “The Louis Theroux Podcast” and recounted how the one-time megaproducer once threatened that she “will not work again” after she declined starring in one of his movies — and in one instance, he made good on that promise.
Morton recalled on the podcast interview, published Monday, how she declined to star in a 2000 romantic comedy “About Adam,” which eventually starred Kate Hudson, Stuart Townsend and Frances O’Connor. Weinstein then threatened to ruin her life.

Samantha Morton appeared on a new episode of “The Louis Theroux Podcast” and recalled her tumultuous history with Harvey Weinstein, who is currently imprisoned as a convicted rapist. The “Minority Report” actor said Weinstein blackballed her on his films such as 2005’s “The Brothers Grimm” after she turned down one of his movies years prior. That film was the 2000 romantic comedy “About Adam,” starring Kate Hudson, Stuart Townsend and Frances O’Connor.
According to Morton, Weinstein was impressed with her performance in 1997’s “Under the Skin” and courted her to star in “About Adam.”

"I suspect foul play!" states a special report from one detective Benoit Blanc sent in the early hours of today. The unusual, unpopular, but still very successful "Last of the Gentlemen Sleuths," Blanc is probably best known for solving the bizarre murder of best-selling novelist Harlan Thrombey by his money-grabbing jerk of a grandson, Hugh Ransom — who does have an impeccable sweater taste.
Blanc (played by Daniel Craig) may initially feel like a character straight out of an Agatha Christie book, a flamboyant, eccentric, and aristocratic gentleman. But, as it is usually the case with these things, there's more than meets the eye. The detective always finds his target. At least, that's a reputation he aims to maintain as he takes a new case: a getaway on a private Greek island that ends up as a murder mystery when someone is killed.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for the entire run of “Girls,” through the series finale.]
Lena Dunham had a fun suggestion for fans of her iconic HBO comedy “Girls,” which just wrapped its final season on Sunday.
“Max Brockman is one of our writers, and he’s amazing at everything, but he’s sort of like the ‘Girls’ historian. He’s the one that went in and basically looked at each character and told us what the final thing they said in the series was and it was all very poetic,” she said to IndieWire during a recent discussion of the final season. “I encourage you to go home and play the game. You go through most of our main characters, and it’s pretty amazing what the final thing that comes out of their mouth is.”

With only a few episodes of Girls left, it was as if Lena Dunham took on the personal challenge of breaking as many TV taboos as possible, especially in the bedroom. Showing naked, pregnant Hannah wasn't enough for this groundbreaking series, so the April 2 episode showed naked, pregnant Hannah having sex on Girls. Despite Dunham trying her darndest to change the landscape, the graphic and realistic nature of sex on Girls is still sadly pretty taboo on television and in movies. But HBO series isn't afraid to get real, and it upped the stakes a level by portraying pregnant sex on Girls. And while I never not expected Girls to go out with a bang, I'll say that Dunham managed to surprise me with her intrepid sex scenes once again.

The upbeat half involves Ray and, completely out of nowhere, Shoshanna’s former boss, Abigail (Aidy Bryant). This is a character I can’t say I ever thought about much or expected to ever see again, so that she showed up and then had an instant connection with Ray is quite the weird surprise. It's safe to say that Girls Season 6 Episode 8 is one of my favorites out of the series' entire six-year run.
Unlike many other installments, the three separate plots of "What Will We Do This Time About Adam?" wove together perfectly, and I was equally invested in each of them. The lack of Marnie certainly didn't hurt things either.
The biggest development, as indicated by the title, was Adam's spur of the moment decision to break up with Jessa and reunite with Hannah. Say what now?
It was a drastic decision and seemingly out of left field – Adam was completely, 100% into Jessa for all of Girls Season 5 and had, by all appearances, forgotten all about Hannah. But looking at the show's most recent installments, it's not actually as random as it appears.
The biggest indicators, of course, would be all of the many times that Adam has brought up his love of babies.

For a moment there in this week’s Girls, it’s easy to think we’re in another one of those “Hannah’s ideal day” episodes. And that thought chills me so deeply, given what’s happening on screen, I have a fleeting desire to snatch Laird’s knit cap from his misguided head and plop it on my own.
Because when Adam breaks up with Jessa in the episode’s first moments, then hightails it to Hannah to announce that he wants to raise the baby with her, it’s the answer to all of Ms. Horvath’s current...

As the series finale of HBO’s Girls quickly approaches, we’re still left with about a million unanswered questions. (The most pressing one being, of course: What will a pregnant Hannah decide to do about her baby?) But the loglines HBO just released for the final three episodes do shed a little (dim) light on what we might expect — including a possible move for Hannah.

Prison dramas tend to invite the expectations of intense, dangerous scenarios filled with violent confrontations and vulgar spats. British director David Mackenzie's gradually affecting "Starred Up" has all those ingredients but uses them for more precise means that merely revealing the harsh nature of life behind bars. Mackenzie (whose previous credits include "Perfect Sense" and "About Adam") applies a sharp kitchen sink realism to this haunting setting and directs it toward an ultimately moving family drama that just happens to involve vicious convicts. The material comes from first-time screenwriter Jonathan Asser, who drew from his experiences as a prison psychologist to craft a detailed portrait of the U.K. prison ecosystem that traps each of his characters, including the staff. Though a soft-spoken analyst does emerge in the plot, he's hardly a panacea for thuggish new inmate Eric (a tightly wound Jack O'Connell). After being incarcerated on relatively minor charges,...

Kate Hudson has never had much luck with critics. With the exception of Cameron Crowe's brilliant Almost Famous and Gerard Stembridge's dramedy About Adam - both of which came out in 2000 - the actress has never been in a film that has managed to get higher than 60% (a.k.a. a "fresh" rating) on Rotten Tomatoes. But perhaps teaming with Omar Sy and James Franco is just the ticket she needs to put her negative streak to an end. Deadline reports that the trio of actors have signed on for Good People, a new thriller from Danish director Henrik Genz that will also be his English-language directorial debut. Adapted from Marcus Sakey's novel by Kelly Masterson, Paul Grellong and Christina Hodson, the movie tells the story of an American couple living in London who have fallen on hard times. Nevertheless, here’s the second trailer for her upcoming rom-com Something Borrowed, also starring cinematic romance vets Ginnifer “He’s Just Not That Into You“ Goodwin, John “It’s Complicated” Krasinki and Colin Egglesfield, who actually played a convincing charmer-cum-deutsche bag in last year’s underseen The Good Guy and had a bit part in Must Love Dogs. Must you, really? Must you?
These are clearly all talented young performers acting in a film that appears to play out not unlike My Best Friend’s Wedding, which is not meant to be a backhanded comparison.
All of that said, it’s hard not to watch a trailer like this and wonder if maybe there might be something else these four players might be better suited getting...

A look at what's new on DVD today:
"The Fantasia Collection"
Released by Disney Home Entertainment
While the headliner of Disney's incredible group of releases on November 30th will be the four-disc Blu-ray double feature of "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000," it's what's less publicized that should be exciting to both Disneyphiles and film fans in general. Starting with the hi-def debut of the two "Fantasias," Disney will finally include amongst the films' copious special features (many ported over from the out-of-print DVD set) the 1946 Salvador Dali-Walt Disney collaboration "Destino," along with an 82-minute making-of documentary. And incidentally, Disney is also releasing three standalone documentaries that shouldn't be overlooked in "The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story" about the songsmiths behind the studio's most famous musicals like "Mary Poppins," "Walt & El Grupo," which details the company-shifting trip Walt Disney took with his animators to Latin America as part of the Good...

The Hollywood Reporter says Townsend took off one day before shooting starts. A replacement has already be found, and the guy taking over is Joshua Dallas ("The Descent: Part 2"). Townsend was set to play Fandral, one of Thor's allies.
The film follows partially disabled medical student Dr. Donald Blake (Chris Hemsworth), who discovers his alter ego, the Norse god Thor. "Thor" is slated for release May 20, 2011. The cast also includes Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgård.
Dallas is also set to star in the George Lucas-produced "Red Tails." Townsend's credits also include "About Adam,...

First there was the book, then the Facebook widget, and now the Viral Loop iPhone app, which went officially live today. It just goes to show that marketing a book ain't what it used to be.
While the Facebook application tells you what you're worth in dollars to Facebook based on your level of engagement, your friends' activity level and your "influence"--defined, in part, by how well you spread the app--the Viral Loop iPhone app is a predictions market--the first to earn its own iPhone app. Simply put, users who download the Viral Loop Predictions Market from Apple's app store or iTunes get $10,000 in play money to bet on the future. (If a user runs out of money, there are ways to raise more capital, like, well, buying the book.)
Along with StudioE9, which created both applications, I partnered with InTrade to handle the back end. Initially I'd planned to handle things--creating the predictions,...

Purefoy joins O'Connor in 'Poetic' pair
LONDON -- James Purefoy and Frances O'Connor are set to star in Poetic Unreason, a film about British war poet Robert Graves, producer Carlo Dusi said Thursday. Purefoy (Resident Evil) will play Graves, while O'Connor (About Adam) will co-star as Graves' American lover Laura Riding. William Nunez, who will direct and share producing credits, also wrote the screenplay. Budgeted at about £4.5 million ($7.5 million), the film is billed as a tale of sexual jealousy and obsession centering on the life of Graves, whose marriage is turned upside down by the arrival of writer Riding. British stage actress Lesley Manville -- most recently seen in Mike Leigh's All or Nothing theater adaptation -- will play Graves' wife. Derek Kavanagh and Dusi will produce along with Nunez under Dusi's banner, Aria Films.

Kate Hudson's Irish Treat
Kate Hudson will always be welcome in Ireland after convincing Dublin locals she was one of them on the set of About Adam. Hudson, Goldie Hawn's daughter, thought mastering the accent would be easy when she signed up for the movie, which has become the biggest grossing Irish-funded film in the country's history. But she admits it was a huge struggle: "The most difficult thing about the accent was I'm American and I've never been to Ireland. I had talked to some Irish people but for some reason all Americans think they talk and sound like leprechauns. But they don't. There's 15 different accents within a 10-mile radius and I had to master the most subtle. One day it just clicked and you get it all together and it just kind of rolls off your tongue. What made me happy is I was able to fool Irish people. I'm really proud of that because they're tough people. A lot of them thought I was Irish."...
