The series is based on a true story: the case of the spider syndicate is Danish crime history. However, the story is fictionalized, and the conclusion of the plot is not to be considered absolute truth. The credits include this reminder (translated): "Some characters and events in 'Edderkoppen' are inspired by historical people and events, but it is important to stress that the story is fiction and that the characters, as they appear in the series, are fictional."
