Doortje asks Kootje to come over for dinner so she won't have to spend her birthday alone. Unfortunately the date coincides with his yearly fishing trip to Texel.
Kootje and Doortje organize to raise funds for Lena's boxer boyfriend after he injures his head. The local women are pleased that Lena is finally settling down, until she decides to open a launderette that will compete with Doortje's.
Doortje persuades Kootje to rent his room upstairs to her niece Rosita, but soon the young girl's hippie friends are chasing off all his regular customers with their loud music.
Lukas creates a hole in the floor and it proves nearly impossible to find someone to fix it. Femma Nagel tries to match her brother Willem with Doortje Lefèvre.
Kootje gets worked up when he learns the parents of his daughter's boyfriend think she's not good enough for their boy. To add to his discomfort, he finds out she's appearing in 'Hair'. Meanwhile, the café is having a Spanish night for a group of foreign laborers.
Lena is back in Amsterdam. Doortje is filling in at 't Schaep because Ko is bedridden because of a bad back. Door's brother Nico offers Lukas a job in his new traveling agency and Femma goes into labor prematurely.
The regulars at 't Schaep are shocked to learn that Mrs. Bastiaanse, who owns the building, wants to sell it to Mr. Lakenhal. Lukas devises a plan to pretend that each night, the wholesome cafe becomes a meeting-point for the underground.
Lukas learns that the city council plans to tear down the neighborhood in favor of a large flat. The locals immediately plan a protest night full of theater and songs.
