When it comes to TV, the IMDb rating system is a little strange. For instance, TV episodes tend to have a higher rating range than movies; whereas the #1 movie ever on the platform, "Shawshank Redemption," has a 9.2 rating, it's not uncommon for TV episodes to get a 9.9 rating. Or, in the case of the "Breaking Bad" episode "Ozymandias," it even reached a full 10 out of 10.
There are some other quirks to look out for, like how the early episodes of a lot of shows are rated deceptively low. Why is the first episode of "The Bear" only rated a 7.6, for instance, whereas later episodes of the show are rated much higher? In this case, I don't think it's because the opening episodes were worse in quality, but that the audience members who didn't vibe with the series simply stopped watching after the first few episodes, and were no longer around...

"Superman & Lois" recently aired its season 4 finale on The CW and, with that, the Arrowverse has officially come to an end. What began with "Arrow" and blossomed into a massive multiverse of DC TV shows is now a thing of the past. While this series, in particular, had a bit of a funky place in the Arrowverse thanks to some multiverse shenanigans, there are no DC shows left on the network now, so this era is good and truly over. That also means Jon Cryer, who played Lex Luthor in the Arrowverse for a time, has gotten a chance to reflect on his role as the DC villain, and he has but one regret regarding his run as Superman's greatest foe.

It was announced soon after that Lauren Lavera – who played heroine Sienna in Terrifier 2 and the recently released Terrifier 3 – was joining Hounsou in the cast. Now, Deadline reveals that Alicia Witt (Longlegs), Gina Philips (Jeepers Creepers), Neal McDonough (Band of Brothers), Mia Healey (The Wilds), Michael Lombardi (The Deuce), David Call (Insidious: The Red Door), Victor Del Rio (Precognito), Cedric Benjamin (Luke Cage), Zac Jaffee (Hustlers), Renés Rivera (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Hari Bhaskar (First Shift), Kristina Krasniqi (Celebrity Ghost Stories), and rapper Jacob Lukas Anderson, a.k.a. It's hard to imagine anything more intense than working undercover for the CIA in a hostile environment, losing years of your life to a secret identity that could be blown at any minute. Except — imagine trying to follow up one of the most critically-acclaimed French shows ever made with a new version, just four years after the original ended. That's the demand placed on The Agency, an American remake of Le Bureau des Legendes, with Michael Fassbender as “Martian”, a covert agent who returns home after spending a huge chunk of time away from everyone he knows and loves.
Inevitably, Martian is soon caught up in a new mission that's complicated by the reemergence of Sami (Jodie Turner-Smith), the woman he fell for in his other life. Getting sucked back into all the chaos is not the return that "Martian" envisioned. Unfortunately, the same...

Band of Brothers was one of the most critically acclaimed war drama series that depicted World War II on television, and while this accomplishment meant so much for the creators, some of its cast members were not completely thrilled with their experience.

From has been a hit out of the gate for MGM+. The sci-fi drama is the most viewed series in the history of the premium network, and has a 96 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.
“We are thrilled by the support of our fans and our partners at MGM+ and are so excited to share the next chapter of our story with our FROMily. By the end of season 3, our characters will begin to understand why they are trapped in From Town… but will understanding help them to escape? And if so, how?” said Pinkner.
Perrineau plays Boyd Stevens, the sheriff whose Draconian rules have held the fragile town together, even as he searches for a way to escape this seemingly inescapable nightmare.
“With the culmination of Season Three we have, in many ways, reached the end of the beginning. In Season Four, a new journey begins. The question is whether it will lead our characters home, or deeper into this unrelenting nightmare,” said Griffin. “We are so grateful to our partners at MGM+ to be able to continue this tale and beyond excited to share the news with our amazing FROMily.”
Added Bender: “Congratulations and gratitude to Michael Wright and MGM+ for the incredible support. And to our brilliant family of actors and our gifted team in Nova Scotia. We’re looking forward to telling more of the tale.”
From is an Amazon MGM Studios production. Jeff Pinkner, John Griffin and Jack Bender serve as executive producers alongside Perrineau, Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec and Scott Rosenberg from Midnight Radio, Anthony and Joe Russo and Mike Larocca from Agbo, and Lindsay Dunn. Midnight Radio’s Adrienne Erickson serves as co-executive producer. The series is distributed internationally by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are set to executive produce a new Javier Bardem-led thriller series for Apple TV+ based on “Cape Fear,” a film with ties to both Scorsese and Spielberg.
Apple TV+ has granted a series order for “Cape Fear,” which will be written and showrun by Nick Antosca. Antosca will executive produce alongside Scorsese, Spielberg and Bardem.
The series is based on John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel “The Executioners,” which inspired Gregory Peck’s 1962 film adaptation, “Cape Fear.” In the late 1980s, Steven Spielberg was attached to direct a new adaptation, but he passed the film over to friend Scorsese so he could make “Schindler’s List” instead. Scorsese cast Robert De Niro in the role that will be filled by Bardem, and the resulting 1991 film “Cape Fear” was a commercial success and scored Oscar nods for De Niro and Juliette Lewis.

The Reagan cops will say goodbye to fans in December 2024 after CBS announced the cancelation of Blue Bloods after 14 seasons. It is baffling to many that the studio decided to cancel one of its highest-rated shows on television. Chernobyl was a masterpiece of a project for many reasons. On top of the mastery of its makers and its actors, the series had one thing that made it bone-chillingly horrifying; it was a dramatization of real-life events. True events continue to haunt humanity as a whole. With this, the series was able to focus on every minute detail and hypnotize audiences, despite only consisting of five episodes.

With this in mind, it is not surprising that the 2019 series was extremely critically acclaimed. Not only did it have a 95% rating on Rotton Tomatoes, but the show has also been labeled one of the best series of all time. Considering how much acclaim the project has gotten, it has naturally broken several records.
One record, among these, hasn’t even been touched by Steven Spielberg’s Band of Brothers, despite being in the same categories as Craig Mazin’s series.

HBO brings some great dramas that focus on historical events. Chernobyl is a five-part miniseries that told us of the events during and after the real nuclear disaster.
Of course, when the Chernobyl disaster happened, the Soviet Union would try to hide it all. It ended up being one of the biggest disasters at the time, showing the realities of radiation not just to those in the immediate vicinity, but those around the disaster.
The series then focused on the clean-up efforts, while people looked to figure out what really happened that night. Not only was this important to help people in need, but it was essential to prevent it from happening again. Chernobyl offers us a mixture of drama and history. There are many shows just like it, and here are five to watch next.

Steven Spielberg has always had an eye for the extraordinary. Normalcy surrounding the everyday facets of life was not intriguing enough for the director, even as a bright-eyed 20-something-year-old filmmaker. For him, only stories that defied imagination and completely transported the audience to a land of impossibilities interested him enough to make it into a movie.

From Spielberg’s bottomless curiosity was born films like Jaws, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Jurassic Park. But it was also his need to unearth the mysteries of mankind that led Spielberg to tell stories based on true experiences, namely Schindler’s List, Catch Me If You Can, Empire of the Sun, Band of Brothers, and most importantly, The Sugarland Express – his feature directorial debut.

David Schwimmer might be known for his work with Friends, but there was another franchise that could have had the actor be in a starring role, that could have possibly made his career as a movie star. However, there was one condition that the actor had that would make or break the deal for him to star in the franchise.

David Schwimmer could have been Agent J instead of Will Smith, but the actor revealed that at the time when he was supposed to make the decision, there was a lot on the line, not just his time on the Friends sitcom. Between his theatre company, Miramax, and Men in Black, Schwimmer needed one thing from the production company for him to give up the Will Smith starter.

Tom Hanks – a name that immediately evokes warm, honey-flavored feelings of comfort and delight when it comes to the world of show business and entertainment. Pair that with Steven Spielberg and you get an Oscar-winning, Emmy-grabbing work of art that can cast a mile-long shadow over every other project coming out of the studio lineup in the same year.
In 1998, the iconic actor-director duo made history by marrying their talents in Saving Private Ryan after an incredible lot of hemming and hawing. Like us mortals, Spielberg and Hanks too were afraid of ruining a good friendship by adding business into the mix. But like all functional relationships, their adventure stood the test of time, though not without a few disagreements first.

The most recent Netflix data dump showed that titles licensed from HBO aren’t exactly topping the charts anymore.
Netflix has begun doing something truly unique in the streaming world: releasing viewership data for all of its shows every six months. The most recent data dump covering the first half of 2024 was unveiled by Netflix on Thursday, and embedded in the list of thousands of titles available on the streamer was a bit of disappointing news for HBO and its parent company. Warner Bros. Discovery entered into a licensing agreement with Netflix in 2023, sending it shows that had been exclusively available on Max, such as the Issa Rae comedy “Insecure,” the black comedy “Six Feet Under,” “Ballers” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and more. Those shows started strong on Netflix, but the most recent viewership dump shows that they have trailed off considerably, and even new arrivals like “Sex and the City...

The success of Minority Report in 2002 was a signifier of the highly profitable creative and business relationship between Tom Cruise, the biggest movie star in Hollywood, and Steven Spielberg, the greatest director the industry has ever known. 3 years later, War of the Worlds proved that theory right when it united the actor-director duo for a live-action adaptation of H.G. Wells’ sci-fi classic.
Unfortunately, the alien invasion movie marked the last time Cruise and Spielberg would ever work together since the actor’s on-air meltdown during the Matt Lauer interview and his couch-jumping proclamation of love on Oprah severed their well-balanced working relationship.

Decades later, as the dust settles and past truths come to light, it seems there was a slight possibility of a third Cruise-Spielberg project that became one of the greatest movies never made.

Sure, Yellowstone gets all the press. But Tulsa King has been the other not-so-secret crown jewel in the Taylor Sheridan universe.
The Paramount+ drama’s 2022 first season nearly matched Yellowstone prequel 1883 in ratings (with 3.36 billion minutes streamed) for its tale of exiled mobster Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone), who is gradually building a crime empire in Oklahoma along with a likable crew of misfits. Emmy-winning writer Terence Winter deserves plenty of credit for the show’s success — he served as showrunner during season one, left the show (citing scheduling conflicts) and then returned as writer and executive producer for the season two (which begins streaming Sept. 15).
The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire veteran spoke to The Hollywood Reporter via Zoom about why the show’s second season (trailer, below) will be even stronger than the first, reveals what he learned about writing from Stallone, and — in a bit of news...

The espionage thriller show, Homeland, received a lot of attention on its premiere in 2011. The unique storyline featured a suspicious CIA officer convinced that a Marine Corps Scout Sniper had turned on the government, and chaos ensued. But the most controversial aspect of the show was the inclusion of a mental illness as the main character’s trait.
Actress Claire Danes played Carrie Mathison, the CIA officer who suffered from bipolar disorder. The character’s illness became a central part of the plot, but it did not define the storyline. The actress also did her research on the disorder to showcase a realistic performance. Danes confessed she was relieved to discover that the sensitive issue was not treated as a gimmick by the show.

Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.

Look for two new faces this upcoming season. Robert Joy and Samantha Brown will join the ensemble cast. Joy will play Henry, a curmudgeon to whom the years have not been kind, while Brown will play Acosta, a new-to-the-force police officer who is in over her head.
You can get a glimpse of both new characters in the intense trailer below. Survival odds look lower than ever, and things are only getting creepier.

David Schwimmer’s portrayal of Ross Geller in the hit sitcom Friends was iconic. It not only presented his exceptional comic timing but also his magnificent range as an actor. While Schwimmer is still associated with his beloved paleontologist character, another series of his deserves equal credit.

In 2003, David Schwimmer was a part of the American war drama miniseries, Band of Brothers. And due to his lovable role on Friends, it did not get the popularity it deserved.
David Schwimmer’s overlooked performance in Band of Brothers
Band of Brothers narrated the stories of Easy Company, part of the 101st Airborne Division. The well-acclaimed series had stars like Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg helming the producer seat. But it also featured David Schwimmer playing the role of Captain Herbert Sobel. His character was specifically designed for the viewers to loathe. As the...

Created by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, Band of Brothers is based on the novel of the same name by Stephen E. Ambrose. The miniseries tells a dramatized narrative of Easy Company’s exploits during the time of World War II. The characters of Band of Brothers are based on real people, many of whom die or sustain serious injuries.
David Schwimmer in Band of Brothers (2001) | HBO Entertainment
The miniseries flaunts a wide and talented ensemble including David Schwimmer who plays the role of Captain Herbert Sobel. For fans of the show, though, it was quite difficult seeing the actor play such a serious role after he had been linked with the comedy genre for such a long time. On the other hand, there is Ron Livingston’s Captain Lewis Nixon who fans believe could have been treated a bit better in the show.

From the vast world of television shows, we, as in those of us who get way too invested in stories about the people we see on our screens, have watched and re-watched and binged on numerous shows over the years. In trying to escape our realities and to get ourselves involved in the fantasy of these shows and the characters, television has always been a medium people are drawn to.

The Brits though, don’t necessarily like most American shows that come up. Or maybe it’s just a notion we haven’t been able to escape just yet. Whether it’s coz the US went and remade The Office or something else entirely, they have been the most difficult bunch to impress. But, some shows, over the last few decades, have made an impression,...

In the past, channels were the main competition, but now it’s all about streaming services. It’s no surprise that they need to constantly update and adapt to their audience because the competition keeps getting tougher. There’s always research being done on this, and recently, Apple TV+ has been in the spotlight.
Still from Masters of the Air (Apple TV+)
The news might not be a shock, but it definitely affects the whole lineup, which is currently top-notch. Several series on the platform have already been nominated for Emmys and even won, so what’s next for them?

Netflix has always been the biggest player in streaming since it launched, making it easier to find someone who doesn’t have other streaming services than to find one who doesn’t have Netflix. But as time...

Is there anything Andrew Scott can't do? The man's on the hottest streak of his career right now on all fronts, having broken our hearts in All Of Us Strangers on the big screen, beguiled us with his insouciant psychopathic cool in Steven Zaillian's eminently bingeable Ripley, and blown minds with his masterful one-man take on Vanya on the West End last year. Now, per Deadline's reporting, the Band Of Brothers and 1917 star is set to make a return to the war genre in Hotel Mumbai director Anthony Maras' Pressure, a true story ticking-clock thriller set amidst the D-Day landings in WWII.
Written by Maras alongside David Haig, on whose critically acclaimed play this movie is based, Pressure will see Andrew Scott take on the role of Group Captain James Stagg. A Met Office meteorologist who worked with the Raf during the Second World War, Stagg was the man...

As this morning’s Emmy nominations prove, there may be less TV being made nowadays, but the quality certainly hasn’t declined with the quantity.
As widely expected, The Bear, Baby Reindeer, True Detective: Night Country and Shōgun were mentioned more than once by past Emmy winners Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tony Hale on Wednesday morning. As Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego said, “it was an exceptional year in television.” It certainly seemed exceptional that, for the first time in a long while, the names Succession and Ted Lasso were not heard when the nominations were read, as those multiple winners have wrapped up their runs.

For Tom Hanks, his long-time partnership with esteemed Hollywood director and producer Steven Spielberg began as a cautionary tale. He had seen enough actors and directors starting off as friends, working together on a project, butting heads on set, growing resentful over their creative differences, falling out, and ending up in a fraught relationship. Hanks didn’t want that to happen with him and Spielberg.

However, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and that was the mentality Hanks chose to adopt in his first attempt at a collaboration with Spielberg on Saving Private Ryan. Suffice it to say, the end result was so revolutionary that the pair ended up working together on multiple projects in multiple capacities over the course of the next 26 years (and counting).

Tom Hanks, the actor who defined an entire generation and influenced the pop culture of an era, had a hard time accepting work from one of the greatest directors of Hollywood. Almost 3 decades down the line, it seems unforgivable to think we nearly missed Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers because of a near-superstitious belief on the actor’s part.

While Spielberg established himself with an unassailable career arc comprising such movies (and franchises) as Jaws, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and Schindler’s List, the privilege of being directed by the Hollywood legend is akin to no other experience within the industry.
In hindsight, it was obvious that Hanks and Spielberg would end up collaborating on projects more than once, and come out the other end all the better for it.
