A recently-discovered photograph is turning the mystery surrounding Amelia Earhart’s 1937 disappearance on its head, leading a handful of experts to believe the celebrated aviator and women’s rights role model actually survived her final flight — and was captured by the Japanese.
Shortly after midnight on July 2, 1937, Earhart climbed into her Lockheed Electra at an airfield in Papua New Guinea and took off into the dark, muggy night.
Together with her navigator Fred Noonan, the 39-year-old pilot flew east toward Howland Island, a tiny sliver of land in the central Pacific Ocean, on the final leg of her boldest aeronautical...

In the wake of #JaprilTheMovie, this week’s Chandra Wilson-directed Grey’s Anatomy advanced not only the expectant former couple’s relationship — albeit in a two-steps-backward kinda way — it also put a big, Richard-shaped obstacle in Maggie and Andrew’s path, revealed the status of Arizona’s love life, got Alex a (sorta) answer to his proposal and got Meredith the truth about Owen’s beef with Nathan. In other words, a lot happened. So read on, and we’ll review the twists and turns of “My Next Life”…

Michelle Parker and her former fiancé Dale Smith had always had a complicated relationship. The parents of small twins, Parker and Smith had split up - but the acrimony continued. They even haggled over an engagement ring on a 2011 episode of The People's Court. On the day their People's Court episode aired, Michelle Parker dropped off her 3-year-old twins at Smith's home. She planned to run some errands in her Hummer before heading to her to her job as a bartender. She never arrived. Her Hummer was found abandoned. Three weeks later, divers found her cell phone in a nearby lake.

A Marvel comic book movie as a serious contender for a Best Picture Oscar nomination? My reaction when the idea was recently pitched to me by a top publicity firm floating the April 4 release Captain America: The Winter Soldier was that this publicist must be on crack.
Don’t they know the Academy is basically made up of snobs? The Imitation Game, The Theory Of Everything, Boyhood, Yes, but c’mon, Comic Book movies have no place in the Best Picture race. That became painfully obvious when The Dark Knight was egregiously overlooked as a Best Pic nominee in 2008.
That led the Academy the next year to expand the number of possible Bp nominees from five to ten in an effort to include deserving popular fare like Knight. However to date the expansion has only resulted basically in a larger number of the usual suspects that normally get recognized among the year’s best.

"Hey, Hillz! Nice meeting you. Lemme write you a song when you run for president!" That's basically how Katy Perry followed up her meeting with Hillary Clinton at a book signing last Friday. And Clinton seemed down with it, oddly enough. .@katyperry Well that's not a Hard Choice. You already did! Keep letting us hear you Roar.— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) June 22, 2014 But before you say that a Hillary Clinton-Katy Perry team-up seems a little out of left field, know that the Ready for Hillary Super Pac already used "Roar" in a promotional video earlier this year. We like to believe that we live in a world of certainties. Up is up, down is down, dogs and cats hate each other, you eat hamburgers instead of the other way around. If somebody gets killed, there is a reason found, through autopsy and police investigation. If somebody disappears, they’re eventually found. Mysterious graffiti is usually nothing more than viral marketing for a new movie coming out. UFOs are just weather balloons or Christmas tree lights tied around a swan. Everything can be explained, and everything has an answer.
That is a total lie. Sorry, but it’s true. Don’t shoot the messenger. Somebody had to tell you, and just be glad it’s us, because at least we’ll pepper some jokes in amongst all this life-shattering news. We’ve already blown your – and our – minds with scientific concepts that...

Update, 1:40 Pm: We spoke too soon. TV news types blasted MSNBC’s Ronan Farrow after he tweeted/touted this morning that he had exclusive footage of the girlfriend of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 passenger Philip Wood when she received news from Malaysia Airlines that it believed the plane went down in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Australia and that there were no survivors. Farrow tweeted by way of promoting his MSNBC program that is telecast at 1 Pm. His tweet was deleted when outrage ensued, and sniffed at his earlier self in a subsequent tweet: 1pm @RonanDaily: the latest on how loved ones received the news – and yes, we will respect their dignity and privacy in what we show. — Ronan Farrow (@RonanFarrow) March 24, 2014 But not until CNN editor Justin Lear tweeted: I wish @RonanFarrow would have thought more before tweeting about exclusive on MH370 family getting text about the plane.

What if you were pregnant and woke up to find that your child was gone. No trace, no memory, you just are no longer pregnant. Imagine the implications, not only within the family, but from others outside. What would that do to you? More importantly, what if that was just the beginning of the nightmare? These are the questions posed at the start of Jimmy Loweree debut feature, Absence.
The film opens in the Hospital where Liz (Erin Way, “Alphas”) is recovering after having her child seemingly kidnapped. Even worse, the child was unborn! Her ex-military husband, Rick (Eric Matheny, J. There is nothing new to speak of in “Secondhand Rapture”, the first full-length album by New York duo Ms Mr. Whether that is a compliment or a criticism is something that has to be taken with some thought though; the band’s entire style seems to be firmly routed in a vintage style that resonates with a lot of their fans, particularly through their online promotion. In many ways, they have become the “first band of Tumblr”, with their feed on that website being the location for many of their original single releases, as well as a cavalcade of retro-filtered photos of the Addams Family and various other kitsch nostalgia images. The music videos for original singles like “Hurricane” and “Bones” used snippets from old movies and TV shows to tell a story.
It is not just in the imagery that they surround themselves with that Ms Mr may seem familiar.

A notorious Rockefeller impostor whose bizarre life inspired a TV movie was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder in the death of a man whose bones were found buried in a backyard. Christian Gerhartsreiter was tried in Los Angeles Superior Court 28 years after the disappearance of newlyweds John and Linda Sohus in a heavily circumstantial cold case. Much of the prosecution's evidence focused on the strange behavior of the man who adopted many names including Clark Rockefeller. He masqueraded as an heir to the fabled oil fortune for 20 years. The case went to the jury late Tuesday morning and the...

Here's a trailer to an interestingly fun looking fake documentary style thriller called The Conspiracy. The story follows a couple of filmmakers who end up uncovering a dangerous ancient secret society. The movie was written and directed by Christopher MacBride, and it's set to play at Fantastic Fest.
I find most conspiracy theories entertaining, and many of them would make for a good movie. So it's kind of cool someone went out and made one. As you'll see from the trailer it also looks like a pretty cool and interesting story. I'd watch it.
Here's a detailed description of the movie:
When two young filmmakers select a crazed conspiracy theorist as the subject of their new work, the task seems simple enough: Befriend him, gain his trust, and let his theories speak for themselves. But things prove much more complicated than that. Despite his wild street preaching, their subject proves...

So here is a new one: a Sacramento studio is working on a Pov horror movie. In 3D. Yep. If Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity didn't make you dizzy enough, maybe watching something like that in 3D will! According to the article in the Sacramento Bee, the film is called No Trace, about "a group of researchers [who] investigate an anomaly in a national forest and come to find out there's a monster there." Oh, it gets worse. Hit the jump to find out exactly how much worse. Apparently, the producers/crew/studio owner/whoever has figured out a way to take massive 3D cameras and shrink them down enough to attach to hats atop the actors' heads. The script...

Here's one that should have plenty of people riled up simply by its style of filmmaking. Ever since found footage movies have begun to get popular, there's been one thing that people always complain about ... shaky-cam. Now imagine said shaky-cam in 3D! We can almost hear the retching of weak-stomached viewers now!
As per the The Sacramento Bee:
A Folsom movie studio is casting itself as a film technology trailblazer.
Silverado Studios later this year will start shooting a horror flick using the Point-Of-View style that has actors holding cameras and chronicling the action documentary style, as in "Blair Witch Project" and "Paranormal Activity."
Silverado's trailblazing wrinkle? It's filming in 3D.
"This is something that's literally never been done before" in a Pov film, says Torrey Loomis, Silverado's founder.

Well this should be interesting... Silverado Studios later this year will start shooting Chad Cruchley's No Trace, a horror flick using the Pov style that has actors holding cameras and chronicling the action documentary style, as in Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. But the kicker is that it's filming in 3-D. Yikes. "This is something that's literally never been done before" in a Pov film, says Torrey Loomis, Silverado's founder, obviously not thinking ahead. Loomis and his associates have figured out a way to attach three small cameras on helmets to be worn by actors and, for about $4,000 per rig, create quality 3-D footage that normally requires heavy cameras costing up to a half-million dollars each. "It's a creature feature," Cruchley says of the film. A group of researchers investigate an anomaly in a national forest and "come to find out there's a monster there," he says.

Thought the horror faux documentary made some of you queasy with its hand-held style? Well, try hand-held...and 3D. Silverado Studios is moving forward on No Trace - a Blair Witch / Paranormal Activity -style Pov tale that they're proud to tout has "literally never been done before." The company's founder, Torrey Loomis, has apparently crafted a new technique that eschews the usual cumbersome 3D equipment. For the film, actors will wear helmets affixed with three small cameras to create the 3D footage. The name of the film will be No Trace , written by Chad Cruchley, and concerns a group of researchers who venture into a national forest and discover a creature. Shooting will begin in December.

Joran van der Sloot, 22, the prime suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba is now wanted by Peruvian cops for allegedly murdering a 21-year-old woman.
Authorities believe van der Sloot brutally stabbed Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez, the daughter of a former Peruvian presidential candidate in his Lima, Peru hotel room before hiding her corpse in a blanket and checking out of the hotel on Sunday. Flores’ body was only discovered yesterday. The room was registered under Joran’s name.
Joran was visiting Peru for a poker tournament and appears with Flores in a video taken at a Lima casino early Sunday. The two were later seen entering the hotel by one of its employees about 5 a.m. and Joran departed alone about four hours later.

You ever watch a movie, get completely engrossed in it, enjoy every minute of it, and then at the end, you sit back and wonder what the fuck just happened? Welcome to Triangle, the latest film from British director Christopher Smith (Creep, Severance). It's one of those horror/suspense/supernatural thrillers that I was absolutely fascinated by, but I'm not sure that I should be. It's complicated.
Triangle stars Melissa George (Dark City, 30 Days of Night) as Jess, an anxious, high-strung waitress and single mother of an autistic child. She's invited to go sailing by Greg (Michael Dorman) on the boat that he lives on called The Triangle. She's nervous about the entire affair, not wanting to leave her son alone for too long, but she's the kind of harried, devoted mother who clearly needs a break from her life.
