Take the High Road (1980)

Trivia

Take the High Road

Edit
The show's title was truncated from Take the High Road to High Road in 1994 as part of an attempt to modernise the show.
Set in Luss Loch Lomond Scotland
Eileen McCallum, who played Isabel Blair, is the only actor to appear in both the first and last episodes, remaining in the role for the majority of the show's history (with a brief absence from 2002 - 2003).
In the 1980s and 90s, the ITV network was made of several independent regional companies, all of which has significant freedom over their scheduling. Whilst the three Scottish TV companies - STV, Borders and Grampian - broadcast the show in a prime time slot for most of its history, the majority of other ITV companies broadcast the show in the daytime. In 1993, ITV opted to no longer fully network the show, but due to viewer protests, all but ITV companies restored the show within two months.
This show replaced Garnock Way (1976), produced by Scottish Television (STV). Whilst popular in Scotland, the show was not of interest to the wider ITV network, who preferred the idea of a rural Scottish soap. When Garnock Way was axed in 1979, one of its leading stars, Bill Henderson, was recruited to Take the High Road to play a very similar character in order to attract viewers of the former show.
