Charlotte Ritchie is one of the many English actors taking over the screen in You Season 4. This season, Joe finds solace in a new life in London, teaching literature at a university. The series keeps Joe’s creepy behavior, but season 4 adapts his storyline into a British whodunit. Still, it’s hard to match the stomach-churning ick that comes from watching season 1 for the first time. Ritchie, in fact, couldn’t get through it.

Sarah Polley, at the Telluride Film Festival for the world premiere of Women Talking, her latest film as a director, acknowledged how lucky she was as an actress to have worked with so many female filmmakers. They told her to be “fierce” when they saw that she wanted to work behind the camera.
Women Talking, based on Miriam Toew’s celebrated novel about a group of Mennonite women having to confront sexual assaults committed by men feeding their desires, is a powerhouse exploration of the female imagination.
“This film began with three women talking a lot,” Polley said. She was referring to Dede Gardner as producer through Plan B Entertainment, and Frances McDormand as a cast member and producer via her Hear/Say Productions, and Polley herself.
Polley cited three female directors she’d worked with who helped pave the way for her as a director: Audrey Wells on her 1999 feature Guinevere; Kathryn Bigelow,...

By just about any metric, Paramount Network drama Yellowstone is one of the most popular shows on television.
Created by actor-turned-filmmaker Taylor Sheridan and starring Kevin Costner, Yellowstone boasts some truly eye-popping viewership numbers. Though the show was a hit right out of the gate, it’s reached new heights in its fourth season. The season 4 premiere drew in 12.7 million viewers in the Nielsen Ratings Live+3 metric. That made it the most-watched premiere on cable since The Walking Dead in 2017.
Naturally, a show this successful almost has to become a franchise and introduce at least one spinoff. Well, that’s exactly what Paramount has done here. After signing a second major deal with Sheridan, Paramount will bring a Yellowstone prequel called 1883 to its streaming service Paramount+. As its name implies, 1883 will take place in the 19th century and document the expanding American frontier. Not only that but it...

Exclusive: The late Audrey Wells was a prolific screenwriter and director whose work focused on strong female characters, from 2003’s Under the Tuscan Sun and 1999’s Guinevere through to 2018’s The Hate U Give. That trend continued with Over the Moon, Netflix’s animated musical about based on a Chinese myth about a determined 14-year-old girl named Fei Fei who, coping with the loss of her mother, builds a rocket ship and blasts off, hoping to meet a mythical moon goddess.
Wells was brought on to pen the screenplay in March 2016; by that time she had already known that she had cancer and that the script would be her final work.
After a trip to China for inspiration she turned in a draft nine months later. Peilin Chou, the producer who brought Wells aboard the project, remembered weeping after reading it.

Curtis was an Outer Critics Circle nominee for Broadway’s Chaplin; Duffield, a Jonathan Larson Memorial Fellow for Sit-in at the Five and Dime, and Park a three-time Drama Desk Award nominee who had penned the off-Broadway musical Kpop. “The Hate U Give” screenwriter Audrey Wells took on an especially challenging task, adapting a bestselling young adult novel for the screen and addressing subjects like police brutality, crime and poverty in ways that would be accessible to teen viewers as well as an adult audience. Sadly, Wells didn’t live to see the film reach its audience. She died of cancer on October 4, 2018. The film opened the following day. Will she be commemorated with an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay? She would be the 10th writer to be nominated posthumously.
A nomination for Wells wouldn’t just be a sentimental choice. The film earned rave reviews with a MetaCritic score of 82 and a Rotten Tomatoes freshness rating of 97%. She has already won prizes from critics in Indiana and Philadelphia, as well as online critics in Los Angeles. And she has been nominated by the Alliance of Women Film Journalists and critics from Utah.

Sarah Polley has her own Harvey Weinstein story, and though the “Away From Her” and “Stories We Tell” director calls it “comparatively tame” it’s troubling all the same — especially because, as the actor-turned-filmmaker writes in the New York Times, the disgraced executive “was just one festering pustule in a diseased industry.” The incident itself is said to have taken place after a photo shoot for “Guinevere,” a film in which Polley starred that Miramax (then run by Weinstein) released in 1999.

Polley alleges that, during a meeting that two others were present for, Weinstein told her that the two of them having a “close relationship” would be beneficial for her career. “‘That’s how it works,’ I remember him telling me. The implication wasn’t subtle.” She says she rejected his unsubtle proposition in part because she “wasn’t very ambitious or interested in acting.

Filmmaker Sarah Polley penned a devastating essay in the New York Times on Saturday about her encounter with Harvey Weinstein as a young actress and the ways that reflects on her experience in the film industry more broadly. In the essay, titled “The Men You Meet Making Movies,” Polley describes a photo shoot to promote the Miramax film “Guinevere” suddenly being halted and being called to Weinstein’s hotel room for a meeting. Polley, whose adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s “Alias Grace” will premiere on Netflix next month, said Weinstein insinuated that having a “very close relationship” with him would lead to her success.

One of the best TV shows of 2014 is getting ready for what looks to be an even bigger second season. FX’s Fargo captured the dark humor and tone of the Coen Brothers‘ classic film; it was a risk that paid off brilliantly and made for some great TV viewing.
The 10-episode anthology series has put together a new cast for its second season with Patrick Wilson leading. We knwo that season 2 takes place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota in 1979, and follows a young Lou Solverson (the older Lou played by Keith Carradine in Season 1) as he investigates a case involving a local crime gang and a major Mob syndicate. Also coming along is Ted Danson who will play Lou’s father-in-law, Sherriff Hank Larsson, and Jean Smart is signed to play crime family matriarch Floyd Gerhardt.
There is now an official synopsis which outlines the roles...

You don't hear much about the laconic writer and actor Sam Shepard, otherwise known as Mr. Jessica Lange, much--other than the occasional play (Curse Of The Starving Class) and cameo. But that's about to change because Magnolia Pictures has just acquired the rights to Blackthorn, a Western starring Shepard that just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and will continue a run at Cannes.
Shepard stars as the iconic Butch Cassidy in his final days opposite Stephen Rea (Guinevere) and Edward Noriega, directed by Mateo Gil in his first English-language feature. In the film:

You don't often see movie dentists who are regular guys. When they're not psychos, they're played for laughs
There's a gag in Jackass 3D called "Lamborghini tooth pull" and I think we all know what that means. For all the scatological tomfoolery and "Ow, my balls!" genital mistreatment on view, I bet this is the stunt that will make us wince the most, particularly as the film opens the same week the Daily Mail has reported that increasing numbers of people are trying to avoid exorbitant dental fees by pulling their own teeth out.
If you don't have a Lamborghini, you could always try the ice-skate option, like Tom Hanks in Cast Away. Or you could splice your genes with those of a housefly, like Jeff Goldblum in The Fly, who subsequently finds it easy to extract a tooth using just his fingers. Or, if you were really desperate, you...

Well! Here I had my question already written to submit to Parade Magazine -- "I love Naomi Watts. Can you tell me what's coming up next for this talented actress?" -- and now I've stumbled across the answer myself. Thanks anyway, Walter Scott's Personality Parade!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Watts is in negotiations to star in My Name Is Jody Williams, a biopic about the anti-land-mine activist who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997. Williams, a Vermont-born schoolteacher and aid worker, shared the Nobel with the group she worked for, the International Campaign to Ban Land Mines, whose efforts paid off in 1997 with the Ottawa Treaty, which has been signed by more than 150 countries pledging not to make or use anti-personnel land mines.
Williams is apparently a feisty character, famous for calling Pres. Bill Clinton a "weenie" for not signing the treaty (and surely not the only time...

Actress Naomi Watts is in talks to star in Audrey Wells’ upcoming Universal drama “My Name is Jody Williams.”
According to Variety, Wells also wrote the screenplay, which is based on a true story and focuses on Jody Williams, who received the Nobel Peace Prize for her involvement in an international campaign against land mines.
Williams is also known for calling former U.S. President Bill Clinton a "weenie" for not signing the land mine ban.
Wells made her directorial debut with 1999’s “Guinevere.” She most recently directed Diane Lane in “Under the Tuscan Sun.”
Watts recently starred in Michael Haneke’s English version of his “Funny Games” and David Cronenberg’s acclaimed “Eastern Promises.” Next up for her is Tom Tykwer’s “The International.”
Final word: Sound like an interesting project. I can easily picture Watts mastering this role without major difficulties.

Ving Rhames and Sarah Polley are in final negotiations to star in Universal Pictures/Strike Entertainment's horror feature Dawn of the Dead for director Zack Snyder. The project, a reinvention of the 1978 horror film of the same name, goes into production next month. Written by James Gunn, Dead is about a mysterious plague that causes the newly dead to rise from their graves and begin to eat the living. During the chaos, a core group of remaining humans takes refuge in a shopping mall. These include a young nurse (Polley), the police-uniformed Kenneth (Rhames), a mall employee who works at Best Buy, a gangbanger and his pregnant Russian girlfriend. Strike's Marc Abraham and Eric Newman will produce Dead with the film's rights holder Richard P. Rubenstein. Tom Bliss is executive producing. Rhames, repped by ICM, next stars in the Barry Levinson-directed comedy Envy and the indie feature Sin. Polley, repped by WMA, is best known for her work in such films as The Sweet Hereafter, Go, Guinevere and The Weight of Water.
