A survivor - Robinson Crusoe - is washed up on a beach - exhausted by his ordeal and cautious of wild animals and snakes he takes refuge in a tree and reminisces about his youthful desire for excitement

Food and shelter for himself and his companion are Crusoe's goals on his third day though his struggles on the island are to be greatly eased when the Wreck of the Esmeralda is washed up just offshore. Amazingly another survivor is found on board - but he's reluctant to leave
