A big screen adaptation was planned, and set for a summer 1996 release, and set to star Soelei Moon Frye. Frye even made a guest appearance on the Jenny Jones show to promote the planned adaptation but the plans fell through.
References the song "Heart Hotel" (1979) by Dan Fogelberg. When Tex Murphy looks at the Golden Gate Hotel located at the far end of Chandler Avenue, he paraphrases the following line from the song lyrics: "Its halls are still study and the walls have worn well, but there is nobody living inside".
