It’s already been an excellent few months to be a PlayStation 4 gamer thanks to huge first-party hits like the riveting Ghost of Tsushima and divisive but stellar The Last of Us Part II. While those two titles would make owning the system worth it alone, Sony has always been great about keeping sales going year-round to ensure you can snag some of gaming’s best offerings for cheap. And right now, you can do exactly that with five solid games going for $5 or less each.

"There is no way that this low life's getting into Heaven whilst I'm stuck here." Uncork'd Ent. has released an official trailer for an indie horror comedy called Limbo, the latest from indie filmmaker Mark Young. The high concept, low budget film is about a murderer who dies and finds himself on trial in Hell, caught between a bitter prosecutor and an inexperienced defense attorney. The entire setup is based around being in "limbo" with a colorful cast of characters. James Purefoy stars a Lucifer, with Lucian Charles Collier as Balthazar, plus Veronica Cartwright, Rebekah Kennedy, Scottie Thompson, Peter Jacobson, Lauryn Canny, Richard Riehle, and Lew Temple. This look that bad, but doesn't look that good either. Here's the first official trailer (+ new poster) for Mark Young's Limbo, direct from YouTube: A murderer named Jimmy (Lew Temple) finds himself on trial in Hell, caught between a bitter prosecutor and an inexperienced defense attorney.

Last week, NBC pulled its freshman comedy Sunnyside from its Thursday night schedule and will air the fourth episode on Thursday, which will be the last on the linear network. The comedy co-created by Kal Penn and Matt Murray and executive produced by Mike Schur will air its remaining seven episodes on NBC’s digital platforms, but it isn’t 100 percent clear if the show has been canceled.
During a screening event of the fourth episode, Murray told Deadline that they pulled the comedy off the network before they were supposed to shoot episode 10 — which was going to be the final episode. “They did not tell us to stop production,” he said. “We shot episode 10 after they made the announcement and we are shooting the 11th episode now. It’s very confusing to me, but as someone who loves the cast and the writers, we’re doing everything we can to give ourselves a shot.

Google Play Pass is Google's answer to Apple Arcade.
Google has revealed Google Play Pass: an apparent competitor to Apple Arcade.
At the very least, the similarities between the two services are hard to deny. Much like Apple Arcade, Google Play Pass will allow subscribers to access a growing collection of mobile games for a set monthly fee. That fee is the same as it is for Apple Arcade ($4.99), but those who sign-up for the service before October 10th will only pay $1.99 a month for the first year.
This is where the differences between the two start to come into play. As you may imagine, Google Play Pass will feature a different collection of games than what you get with Apple Arcade. The full list of games is currently unknown, but it seems that heavy hitters like Monument Valley 2, Stardew Valley, Limbo, Terraria and Star Wars:...

The video game industry is in the midst of the next step in its evolution. The future of gaming looks to be cloud-based, with some traditional hardware potentially being left behind and companies promoting Netflix-style streaming services in their stead. Most of the big players in console gaming have already embraced the medium to varying degrees, with other powerhouses looking set to join the fray soon enough.
Yet, the services on offer still remain a mystery to many gamers. It can be difficult to know, without doing the research, what the advantages of game streaming are and how these programs differ from established services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live.
With that in mind, we’ve decided to step in by putting the most bountiful streaming service available under the microscope – PlayStation Now. As the current front-runner in the console race, Sony has invested heavily in Ps Now, offering...

After making her feature debut with the well-received film “Limbo” in 2010, Norwegian filmmaker Maria Sodahl is making a comeback with “Hope,” a drama based on her experiences after being diagnosed with brain cancer years ago.
Set to world premiere at Toronto in the discovery section and repped by TrustNordisk, the personal movie is a two-hander starring Andrea Braein Hovig (“All the Beauty”) as Anja, a strong forty-something woman who is an accomplished professional and runs the household of her extended family, including the children she had with Tomas (Stellan Skarsgard), with whom she has lived for almost two decades. When she gets a brain cancer diagnosis the day before Christmas, their life breaks down, exposing neglected love.
“I had the urge to tell my story, and at the same time my aim was to make a personal but not a private film. It’s about what happens when someone faces the threat of death.

Chicago – One of the overriding characteristics in the movies, when it comes to drug traffickers, is the stereotypical image of a fat and corrupt cartel leader who usually have machine gun wielding henchmen and bikini clad groupies. “Birds of Passage” goes back to the business of the drug trade, but it is about the families that controlled the territorial borders during that key era, and the basis of that control in ancient tribalism.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
That era was the 1970s and early ‘80s, when marijuana was the game, and the thirst for this mainstreaming high was at its illegal peak … these were essentially the folks that controlled the drug trade before some powerful pot heads were able to get big money and legitimacy/legality into the game. The tribes that controlled the territories had their own issues, and was involved in a chess-like power play of their own. The film uses a different approach,...

For their brand new series of cheekily titled short films — all named after already-popular offerings, from “No Country for Old Men” to “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” — filmmakers Will Blank and Jake Bradbury aimed for a truly minimalist approach. Each film was conceived of and made within the space of just one day, all focusing on some uniquely millennial issues.
For both Blank and Bradbury — both lauded short filmmakers with a ton of other projects on their plates: Blank recently made the award-winning short “Limbo,” starring Sam Elliott, and is currently working on the Steven Spielberg-helmed reboot of “Amazing Stories,” while Bradbury has worked with Netflix, Maxim, and CBS — getting back to their indie roots was key.

Platformers seem to be a popular vessel for introspective, meandering journeys of self-discovery, hope, and beauty. Just look at Limbo, Inside, Journey, and this year’s fantastic Wandersong. Unlike the much-maligned “walking simulator,” these games present their worlds from a broader perspective, and perhaps because of this they feel grander in scope than something like Edith Finch, despite their similarly personal themes. Gris takes this ability to broaden its range of landscapes and vignettes to an even higher level, panning the camera out great distances to reveal one of the most beautiful worlds a game has ever taken me to.
Like many games of its ilk, Gris has no dialogue. Its storytelling is done through nuanced interactions between the main character, a girl who must heal emotional wounds throughout her journey, and the world itself. The influences are clear — namely Journey — and there’s even a direct homage to one...

"The volunteers are promised that their 'humanity' (body parts) would be removed to accommodate 'bionic' armor. then preserved and restored after the danger was over.

Missing from the list is The Neighborhood's Monday night companion, Happy Together. The network has not yet made a decision on the show, which is toplined by Damon Wayans Jr. — whose deal to star in the series was the richest this season — and Amber Stevens West.
The Murphy Brown revival is staying at 13 episodes, as was the plan when it was picked up.

Screenwiter Zak Penn ("Ready Player One") continues developing a screenplay adaptation of the Hasbro (Parker Bros) toy and subsequent Marvel Comics/Idw series "Rom: Spaceknight", for Allspark Pictures and Paramount:
"...the first comic book series follows 'Rom', an earthbound 'cyborg' from a utopian society on the planet 'Galador', his defeat by the invading 'Dire Wraith' alien race and the continuation of their battle on Earth.
"Unlike the technologically advanced 'Galadorian' civilization, the Dire Wraiths rely primarily on dark magic and their power to change their appearance.
"Years before Rom's arrival on Earth, Galador is threatened by a fleet of ships manned by the Dire Wraiths. Galador's ruler, the 'Prime Director', calls for volunteers to be transformed into 'Spaceknights', cyborg warriors that can defend the planet from the invaders.
"The volunteers are promised that their 'humanity' (body parts) would be removed to accommodate 'bionic' armor. then preserved and restored after the danger was over.

Let the debate about the incompatibility of film art and screen eroticism commence: Joe Sarno is back! His 1964 Sin in the Suburbs is still a slice of genuine Americana, considered total smut when first released but barely notable now except for the sordid believability of its subject matter. Is Sarno the Cassavetes of his own subgenre, the ’60s softcore sex soap opera? He certainly impresses as a man with a cinematic mission, following the beat of a different drummer.

Released back in 2013, the original Guacamelee! was a surprise success. Developer DrinkBox Studios’ previous efforts, while solid, were not truly indicative of their true potential. It took the creation of their Metroidvania-style platformer for them to truly be able to showcase their skills. Now after five years, and another critically acclaimed release, Juan is ready to don the mask once again in Guacamelee! 2.
Picking up some years after the good ending of the first game, Guacamelee! 2 sees Juan enjoying the simple life. Settled down with his beloved wife and two kids, Mr. Aguacate has hung up the mask, seemingly for good. Although he still wears the belt of a champion, his protruding gut shows he is not the sculpted warrior he once was. Unfortunately, the Mexiverse needs that muscular luchador to return to form. A wrestler by the name of Salvador, who saved the world in another timeline, has turned evil.

In Digital Shorts we review some of the latest video games that are only available digitally (at least in the UK), in a short-form review format. In this edition we take a look at Toby, The Secret Mine – an indie game that has joined the line-up of Nindies on the Nintendo Switch
Considering that Toby, The Secret Mine was released on Steam in 2015 and then steadily onto Android, Wii U, Xbox One and PS4 over the following two years, it’s arrival onto the Nintendo Switch this week is quite a surprise. Toby is a game that emulates Limbo so closely that it could almost have been made by the same team, but for one subtle difference. Attention to detail.
Both games feature beautifully animated graphics that take the form of black silhouettes against a lighter background. In Limbo’s case, white and grey are used to maintain the melancholy mood.

In 1991, Delphine Software was an obscure French developer, known at that point for the ravishing but deeply flawed point ‘n’ click adventure Future Wars and the spy-‘em-up Operation Stealth. With Another World, in the hands of auteur programmer Eric Chahi, they took their visual talents and movie narrative impulses to alien climes.
A wonderful introduction sequence conjures a rich atmosphere from the very start. A young scientist works late and alone. A storm rages outside. As he powers up an experimental device, lightning strikes the facility, opening a portal that whisks him away to a different planet, possibly a different dimension.
At this point there is a classic transition: you the player aren’t aware that the game has begun and that you are in control. Failure to react means death. Suddenly, you really are in another world, and the presentation is out of this world.

The future of “Rub & Tug” is in limbo following Scarlett Johansson’s exit from the project because of objections to her playing a trans man.
According to an individual with knowledge of the project, it is unclear if “Rub & Tug” will actually go into production. The insider indicated it doesn’t look good for the movie, which still has director Rupert Sanders attached.
Johansson’s production company, These Pictures, was a producer on the project, and it’s unclear whether Johansson and These Pictures will stay on to produce. Joel Silver’s Silver Pictures is also listed as a production company on the film, but Silver did not respond to requests for comment.

The title is well-worn, as is pretty much everything else — save for the fresh face of young, compelling lead Yiğit Ege Yazar — in “Brothers,” Turkish writer-director Ömür Atay’s cautious but finely buffed debut feature. Following a reticent teenager as he’s released from juvenile detention into a fraught, not fully welcoming family environment, Atay’s film combines familiar beats from sundry coming-of-age and life-on-the-outside dramas, though it does so with sensitivity and crisp sensory detail. Where it stumbles is in fashioning itself as a mystery of sorts, withholding the story behind the protagonist’s incarceration well past the point where it will have become obvious to most culturally attuned viewers.
Nevertheless, the topicality of that reveal — flipping the perspective of such works as Daniel Wolfe’s “Catch Me Daddy” — combined with the confident formal polish of Atay’s filmmaking should secure “Brothers” a long run of festival berths following...

An interesting backstory and intriguing setup isn’t enough to halt the game play issues that come from this 2D platformer, a strange mesh of Limbo and Rick Dangerous.
Dream Alone casts you in the part of a young boy, seemingly the sole survivor of his village and doomed to traipse through a dismal landscape. As everyone else has disappeared, you begin your journey into finding out the cause of this strangeness, hopefully reversing whatever has happened. The developers of Dream Alone, WarSaw Games have heavily focused on the level of difficulty in the game and this is a mixed bag as the game relies just as much on the skill of the player as it does on cheap, repetitive tricks. For instance, there are sections where you have to solve puzzles based on pushing objects, dodging enemies and warping between the real world and a dream world in order...

Getting canceled isn’t what it used to be. Nowadays, when a show gets the axe, its fans will inevitably make their voices heard on Twitter. And if the show is beloved enough by enough people, and those people are loud enough, and the hashtags keep trending, networks (or streaming services) might just listen and save it.
Hey, that’s what happened with “Sense8,” whose two-hour series finale (which dropped today) was greenlit by Netflix after fans freaked over its cancellation last spring.
While TheWrap can’t prove definitively that the power of Twitter is what saves axed shows, we did get some numbers from the social media platform to demonstrate that there is a correlation between how many times you ranted about a canceled show, and the speed at which it was revived. Our conclusion: the odds are usually in the show’s favor if a fan campaign grows quickly.

Be it the ease and cost of development, or a retrospective artistic trend, the horror genre has come back to the semi-2D plane in a big way, and the indie-friendly Nintendo Switch is reaping the benefits. The eldritch terrors of Darkest Dungeon should satisfy those looking for an RPG with psychological consequences. A 2D survival horror game called Detention by Taiwanese developer Red Candle Games draws from that same country’s history and culture to deliver its frights, and it’s one of the eShop’s hidden gems. Those looking for a puzzle platformer, however, may now turn to Little Nightmares, a game from Swedish developer Tarsier Studios.
Little Nightmares is a lean experience that plays out like a creepy Germanic fairy tale rendered in a beautiful, but unsettling approximation of stop-motion film. In the game’s campaign, you control a raincoat-clad little girl named Six through a bleak,...

‘Lucifer’ Star Kevin Alejandro Tells Us About Those 2 ‘Bonus’ Episodes and Where #SaveLucifer Stands
(Spoiler alert: Please do not read ahead unless you’ve seen the series finale — or possibly just Season 3 finale — of “Lucifer.”)
Kevin Alejandro was not prepared for “Lucifer” to get canceled. And neither was anyone else on the cast of the recently-axed Fox series — let alone its fans. So a period of mourning has sent in for those who want to see the devil rise from cancellation hell.
Luckily, there are two things that have Alejandro — who plays Detective Dan “Douche” Espinoza on the dramedy — in high spirits. First, it looks like the fan campaign #SaveLucifer — led by Lucifer (Tom Ellis) himself — might actually be working. And second, Alejandro will be making his TV directorial debut Monday night when two “bonus” episodes of “Lucifer” air on Fox.

Updated May 24 at 7:31 a.m. Pt with “Code Black” canceled by CBS.
Is “Ghosted” coming back?
That’s a question on viewers’ minds as upfronts week comes to a close, with Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS and The CW all having announced their fall programming schedules as of Thursday. ‘Cause some of those slates have holes in them, meaning the statuses of almost half a dozen shows on broadcast television are still up in the air.
Look, we can accept the fact that not every series will be saved like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” — not every show should be. But come on, networks — minus ABC and The CW, who have already killed or renewed everything they’re going to — fans need to hear one way or another whether their favorite programs will be returning this fall, especially for ones that have a crazy-devoted fanbase.

They had the makings of America’s next favorite TV duo — popular comedian Damon Wayans and character actor Clayne Crawford taking on the iconic Lethal Weapon roles played by Danny Glover and Mel Gibson in the popular movie franchise. But two seasons into the Lethal Weapon series, they are hardly speaking to each other.
Following the quick flame-out of the Rush Hour reboot on CBS, expectations were low for Lethal Weapon. The series created by Matt Miller exceeded them and became a breakout for Fox, earning a second-season renewal. However, behind the success there had been on-set tensions. There were alleged incidents involving Crawford, including him having an outburst in the middle of a scene, and an actor suffering a minor injury during an episode Crawford was directing. Those incidents, along with other contributing factors, led to things on the show escalating to a point where it is in danger of cancellation.
