VIRGIN FOREST is dumb tale of sex out in the woods, unaccountably reissued by two competing video companies. Guess there's ill-gotten money to be made in them thar hills.
A full six minutes at the opening is travelogue footage of mountains, lakes, flora & fauna - establishing a bucolic setting as a sleep-inducing folksy narrator rambles on in voice-over making very corny jokes. For any film, let alone a XXX porn movie, starting off with such boring & obvious filler is a no-no, and I can't recall offhand another case of such an ill-advised start.
Story proper begins with three guys sporting lots of facial hair (it's the era of Grizzly Adams), betting on who will do the best hunting. One guy, a British shutterbug, spots a siliconed plain jane masturbating on a blanket and he services her while the soundtrack hokily is filled with the sounds of birds chirping.
Second guy, a burly soul, finds "beaver" in the form of a busty beauty in yoga meditation pose. She's a pretty Annette Haven type, and they get it on, including in a stand-up fashion right out of Henry Miller's books.
Third guy is trout fishing when he finds a busty blonde (with a long nose), who he takes back to their rented Ferguson's cabin.
Film becomes fairly routine at this point, as various sex couplings and mate-swapping occurs as the cast filters back to the cabin, joined by the guy who rented them the cabin, after he's given a blow job while driving there by his secretary. Sloppy presentation has an orgy at the cabin in which there's an extra guy -it's not clear whether he's Ferguson or just some stud thrown into the movie randomly.
Though running a bit shorter, the DVD-R version issued by Something Weird Video on Vol. 107 of its Dragon Art Theatre series is definitely the way to go. More recently After Hours Cinema issued the film on one of its three-fer DVDs, but the guys running that label have lately had a fit of Weinstein Mangling Syndrome.
Taking a page out of the famous Miramax/Weinstein Co. play book, they took VIRGIN FOREST and removed nearly all of its original soundtrack. The Muzak or rock background heard from the original print on the SWV edition has been replaced wholesale by rinky tink ragtime-style music, the sort that might accompany stag loops. Making matters worse, the dialog and moaning/groaning soundtrack was dropped by AHC, ruining the mood and admittedly minimal content of most of the film. They reduced it to generic sex, rendered aloof and distant.
Normally AHC does this for fear of copyright infringement (as repeatedly noted in the booklets they issue to accompany their videos), but such is not the case this time -apparently they got into the habit of wanting to "improve" or at least mark their videos (not unlike an animal spraying its territory) as some sort of egotistical fetish. A curse on this behavior!
Vol. 107 by SWV has a co-feature not listed at all in IMDb, titled THE LUMBER JACK. It does not match an entry named LUMBER JACKS in the database that stars Rick Cassidy. Instead it toplines creepy Henry Ferris as a guy whose girl friend is raped by loggers, and who seeks revenge. The uninformed dolt who writes the notes claims the femme cast is from SWINGING SORORITY, but I watched that film back-to-back with THE LUMBER JACK and the casts don't overlap at all.
