This movie remained almost unseen for 57 years. It was based on a real double murder in 1926, but when the film was set to premiere in 1950 one of the murderers, having served a full sentence, went to court to have the film stopped. In 1954, the Norwegian Supreme Court banned the film. Since then, only a few people have seen the film. However, as of January 31st, 2007, the film will be available to the public. A legal panel reviewed the film and found that it no longer interferes with any persons right of privacy as all those involved has since passed away. Also, the legal panel noted that had the same case gone to trail today, the outcome would most likely have differed, with freedom of speech outweighing the right to privacy.

Alternate versions
This film was never released in its original version. It turned up five years later - with some footage shelved and some added - as "Savnet siden mandag".

A Brilliant Norwegian Noir

This movies style is like taken directly out of the German expressionism movement from the 20's and 30's mixed with the feel of Vitory De Sica's realism. These two art form mix graciously together and form a expression not too far away from the American Film Noir were the German expressionism is mixed with their more traditional crime genre. This cold yet on many levels heartbreaking film captures Norway perfectly and is not shy on showing my beautiful country around. You will also go into the minds of two criminals who have had their part in a murder and you will grow to feel for them, though perhaps still not like them.

I recommend this film to everyone who might have a taste for something a little different from the common noir and to every Norwegian who wants to see one of the best films we ever gave out.

My rating is 9.5/10, leaning towards 9 but still a 9.5. Now I'm a huge film buff with a taste for quality so I hope you will take my word for it : )

P.S. If I made any spelling mistakes it's because English is not my first language, as you might have understood I'm from and also currently living in Norway so do not let any mistakes pull my credibility down.
