Featured review
A good taxi driver has a delightful daughter who, through a misunderstanding, passes herself off to a young man from high society as the heiress of a rich industrialist. Romance, then breakup, and despair of the father who indulges in drink and nearly dies in an accident
Based on a play ,it's the umpteenth story of an impossible love between a young man of means and working girl:she's a model ,all the same, but at the time it was not a prestigious occupation like it is today;particularly for a posh strait-laced mother who dreams of a money match (she may not please you but she's worth four million).
The best scenes are to be found in the realtionship between the brave taxi driver (Harry Baur ,one of the best French actors of the thirties) and the rich boy's wise grandpa ;the rest is predictable to a fault.
Inspired par Capra's "lady for a day" (mentioned in the film) but Jean Choux is no match for the American director.
