Jakarta-based Magma Entertainment is building a universe around its successful horror film Qodrat, turning it into a trilogy and connecting with ‘The Devil’s Lair’ franchise, it was revealed at the inaugural Jaff Market in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (December 4).

Main star Vino G. Bastian will return to lead Qodrat 2, which will continue to follow title character Qodrat, a spiritual healer searching for his wife, who sold her soul to a demon in a desperate attempt to save their son. Leading Indonesian studio Magma Entertainment presented its upcoming slate and premiered new content at the ongoing Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (Jaff) and Jaff Market, marking an expansion across multiple genres from 2025 through 2028.

The company screened nine minutes from “Qodrat 2,” the sequel to its hit 2022 film, with director Charles Gozali, producer Linda Gozali, editor Teguh Raharjo and newly-joined executive producer Dian Sastrowardoyo in attendance at the sold-out Jaff event.

Magma is also world premiering horror film “The Damnation” (“Tumbal Darah”), its first co-production with Wahana Kreator and Sinemaku Pictures, at Jaff. The film stars Martino Lio and Shallum Ratu Ke. Producer Salman Aristo cited Magma’s openness to “authentic stories” and creative freedom in the horror space.

Founded by siblings Charles and Linda Gozali, the children of pioneering Garuda Films producer, the late Hendrick Gozali, Magma was founded in 2003. The slate announcement detailed expansion of the “Qodrat” universe with “Qodrat 3” and “The Devil’s Lair” franchise.

The film has been sold to Condor (France), September Films (Benelux), Movies Inspired (Italy), Leopardo Filmes (Portugal), McF Megacom (former Yugoslavia), Kino Swiat (Poland) and Aqs (Czech Rep./Slovakia).

They’re not making any progress and are worried Gavin will turn to James for help. Silas (Mark Lee) regrets that he failed to protect Gavin from James all those years ago and dedicates himself to working on Moore’s notes.

Based on an original idea by co-director Víctor Matellano, this black-and-white anthology film opens on Halloween night as children trick-or-treat. Gravedigger Mister Fettes (Saturnino García), preferring to be called Vampus, feels unappreciated for his work. He holds a sour outlook on the world, as established when he reads a news story about a hipster being stabbed 45 times and reacts by saying it wasn’t enough.

Matellano directs the wraparound segments, where Vampus acts as a storyteller to the audience in a manner resembling The Cryptkeeper. He also encounters many people whose lives he ends at the slightest irritation, before feeding them to his ghoulish pet named Toby. It’s constantly entertaining to watch this ill-tempered gravedigger that García terrifically brings alive.

It’s about a rocky relationship between a female couple that forces them to spend the night apart. Abbas will producer under his company ArabQ Film, an Arab-based Lgbtq-focused production company, along with Tatiana Bears, Nicole Townsend, and Neal Kumar. This marks the second feature from ArabQ Film after making its debut with The Wedding, which also starred Boosheri. Anacrónica, a newly formed production company in Bolivia led by actors Quim Del Rio and Nakai Mirtenbaum, will team with ArabQ Films on this project. Executive producers are Randelson Floyd, Suki Sandhu, David Klein, Josh Jupiter, Jorge Quintero, Lucky Cheng, Quim Del Rio, and Nakai Mirtenbaum. The emotional roller coaster that is This Is Us season 2 has come to a close -- but not without a few more tears shed. Charles Burnett is a writer-director whose work has received extensive honors. Born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, his family soon moved to the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. Burnett studied creative writing at UCLA before entering the University’s graduate film program. His thesis project, Killer of Sheep (1977), won accolades at film festivals and a critical devotion; in 1990, it was among the first titles named to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry. European financing allowed Burnett to shoot his second feature, My Brother’s Wedding (1983), but a rushed debut prevented the filmmaker from completing his final cut until 2007. In 1988, Burnett was awarded the prestigious John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur (“genius grant”) Fellowship. His first widely released film, To Sleep with Anger...

While it was alleged, last month, that the Wachowski siblings and Tom Tykwer‘s Cloud Atlas would come the first weekend of December, Variety’s Andrew Stewart tweets that it’ll actually hit on October 26th. Exclusive Media will finance and produce the new thriller Still Of Night, written and to be directed by Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3, U-571, Breakdown) and starring Michelle Monaghan (Source Code) with Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking) in final negotiations to star, it was announced today by Exclusive Media Co-Chairmen, Nigel Sinclair and Guy East.
