Picking up where last week’s episode left off — on the floor, specifically — Friday’s Vampire Diaries (The CW, 8/7c) finds Rayna staring down what could be the final hours of her last life. (You know, assuming she doesn’t back out of her plan to save Bonnie.)

I really like Monks of Mellonwah. I was passed their previous album to review and really got into it, calling the title track off Afraid To Die akin to a 007-esque Bond track. I stand by that. That last album was off the chain. Hopefully, Turn The People, their latest, is just as good.

The album starts off a little slower than the raucous excitement found in “Afraid To Die,” with “Ghost Stories” being a beautiful and evocative track, recalling Chris Cornell’s solo efforts. I was also picking up a distinct Coheed & Cambria vibe from the album as a whole, only interpreted through a more relaxed, almost Incubus-style vibe. I love all of this. This is all a win, for me.

Oddly enough, Monks of Mellonwah’s album Afraid to Die calls to mind images of James Bond-ian adventures. The lead track, “Afraid To Die,” has all the orchestral beats that your standard Bond film theme song would have, but is far better than recent title tracks for flicks like Quantum of Solace or Skyfall. I can easily envision Daniel Craig mowing dudes down with Cqc moves and firing a Walther Ppk while Monks of Mellonwah blares over the soundtrack.
