This article contains mention of graphic depictions of violence.
Over the years, there have been plenty of children's television shows with questionable origins, some of which are inspired by films that are too violent for kids. While there are scary kid's shows and kids' shows with sad characters, there is also this trend of taking more adult properties, often from rated-r movies, and turning them into cartoons for children. It is an odd practice, but it has created recognizable shows that were a part of many kids' childhoods.
Still, because such drastic changes need to be made to the original property to adapt it into something more fitting for kids, one wonders why someone would adapt them at all. Wouldn't other properties fit a kids' show better? Regardless of why, some of the cartoons created ended up being amazing while others fell flat.

There can be only one. Or, in the case of the "Highlander" franchise, there can be only six movies, three TV shows, and a web series, not to mention nine tie-in novels, two comic book titles, a card game, and a video game for the Atari Jaguar.
The mythology of the "Highlander" movies started pretty simply, spinning centuries-old tales of knight-errantry into a modern fable of magical immortality. Russel Mulcahy's 1986 original laid out the rules clearly: hiding among ordinary humans is a species of magical immortals who can only be killed by decapitation. When one Immortal decapitates another, they absorb their victim's life energy, becoming stronger and more exhilarated. The legend goes that when there is only one Immortal remaining on Earth, they will be granted a wish called The Prize. The central Immortal of the series, a 16th century Highlander named Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), wishes more than anything to grow old.

The late 20th century was a wild time to be a kid immersed in the world of pop culture. It was the period that produced Jessica Rabbit, a cartoon character you felt embarrassed to watch with your parents, and a time when stores regularly stocked movie tie-in toys linked to “kid-friendly” fare like Aliens and Terminator 2.
It seemed like nothing was off the table and that was certainly the case in the world of cartoons. Eager to cash in on the appeal of cinematic properties in a way that would give even the MCU pause for thought, a glut of animated shows inspired by movies featuring torture, nudity, beheadings, and buckets of toxic waste found their way onto the small screen. In most cases, the cartoons spawned rarely stuck around for long, but today they stand as examples of a weird and wonderful chapter in the history of small screen entertainment.

John Wick’s Chad Stahelski will team with Colony's Ryan Condal for the Highlander reboot.
In an entertainment industry age in which the 1980s are habitually mined for reboot fodder, one of that prolific decade’s most expansive multimedia properties, Highlander, has somehow remained untapped for the better part of two decades. That, however, is about to change.
The centuries-spanning intrigue of battling immortals whose tagline famously states, “There can be only one” will soon manifest as a new big-screen effort. Chad Stahelski will direct Lionsgate’s reboot of Highlander. After a decades-long resume in the arena of stunts and second unit stewarding, Stahelski received his first credit as a director alongside David Leitch for the 2014 Keanu Reeves-starring action sleeper hit John Wick, subsequently solo-directing its sequels, the latest of which, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, hits this weekend.
