It received six Filmfare Awards, including Best Film in opposition to Raj Kapoor's Sangam (1964).Also got a National Award (Best Film Feature in Hindi), too. It was also screened at the Moscow International Film Festival 1965 as the official Indian entry.
The film had wide release of 90 prints that time which was an extraordinary number that time.
