The village's borrowed bull falls into a well, but while the leaders search for the responsible person, Józsi, the smartest of them, saves the poor animal. Encouraged by the success of their joint work, they decide to build a surfaced road in the village. Józsi has the knowledge, the village has money, all they need is a road-roller. Józsi is entrusted to buy one, which he does, but there is no suitable means of transport to take it home. Thus, our hero decides to drive the steamroller home on public roads.

Józsi, on the way home, riding his steam-roller, gets to a small town at the area of Lake Balaton, where outlaw attacks are organized to entertain foreign tourists. Józsi is hired by the organizer of the attraction, but on his first day he gets into trouble, when a real criminal robs the bunch of tourists instead of him. Being an honest man, he tracks down the robber and, with a little bit of luck, returns the stolen valuables.

At the latest stop of Józsi's journey, he meets his long-lost friend, who is now a construction manager, on the verge of a nervous breakdown. The main cause of his problems is a widowed woman, the last resident of the construction site, who doesn't want to move out. Józsi tries to solve the problem while making new friends and even getting some love.

Józsi just arrives to Budapest and gets into big trouble, as his road roller breaks down. Fortunatelly, all this happens in front of a car repair shop, but the fixes are too expensive, he only has a few days to raise the costs. Since it's a public holiday, he can't get money from home, but he's not the kind of person to despair; he has lots of ideas for making money, and he doesn't have to do it all his own, as he meets an old friend from the village where he's from.

The enthusiastic football fans of a small town welcome Józsi and his road roller as Messiah, as the local football field is so bumpy that the referee has called off the game before it even started in the last few weeks. Józsi gets the job done, but two of the team's best players get drunk so much at a wedding party they are unable to play. Since Józsi was once a national team player about 30 years ago, he has to complete the team. But 30 years is a lot of time.

Józsi saves a young artist girl who wants to throw away her life, and offers his help to fix her matter. All the troubles root from her sister's partner, who wants to prevent the sisters from having a joint career. With Józsi's intervention, they achieve success at the inauguration of a cultural center and our hero, after months of traveling, finally is heading home to his beloved village. But when he arrives, an unexpected surprise awaits him.
