Dhaal review :
Best remembered for Amrish Puri's Pilot Baba, he had a famous punchline in Dhaal, "Pilot Baba ki flight ka break kabhi fail nahi hota". The film was a regular hero vs villain actioner where Vinod Khanna is a cop on trail of Pilot Baba and his gang but these criminals always get acquitted in court by the cunning lawyer played by Danny. Sunil Shetty played a street smart mechanic and Khanna's pal who is in love with Danny's daughter Anjali Jathar.
Dhaal was started in 1993 but got endlessly delayed due to various reasons. It finally visited theatres in end of November 1992 and surprisingly, was able to cover its costs mainly through business in the interiors of India. Anu Malik's Konkani sounding 'Dil maaka deena' was another rip off of Los Del Rio's 'Macarena' number.
Of the cast, Vinod Khanna looked jaded and disinterested even while romancing the lovely Gauthami. Sunil Shetty was strictly okay. The heroines- Gauthami and Anjali - had precious little to do. The sexy Kunika had a meatier role than these two even as she played a libidinous vamp rollicking in a swimming pool with Amrish Puri. The best act ofcourse came from Puri as the aforementioned Pilot Baba dressed in uniform. "Main plane nahi udaata, aadmi udata hoon", he coolly confesses in one scene. Woah!!
