One of Russell Crowe's first ever acting roles; as a Scottish footballer.
The Season 2 introduction features the on screen debut of Jim's (Nick Giannopoulos) much talked about Monaro, a General Motors Holden HX Monaro GTS sedan (1976-1977).
Series star and co-creator Nick Giannopoulos made such a name in pioneering 'wog' (Australian slang for primarily southern European and Mediterranean-area migrants, similar to 'wop' in the US and 'dago' in the UK) humour, that he has trademarked the word. Through his and other first and second generation migrant comedians efforts, what was once a major derogatory slur against many immigrants to Australia has become a badge of honour among many in those immigrant communities.
Acropolis Now's legacy continues to this day- the most enduring character from the show would be main character Jim's cousin Effie Stephanidis, played by first generation Greek-Australian actress Mary Coustas. Coustas' portrayal of Effie was so memorable and enduring that she continued playing the character after the show ended, on various TV performances and shows, as well as on stage, and at various other events.
