According to the American home video tape release sleeve notes under the title of 'Best Enemies', ''writer/director David Baker played a key part in the cultural history of the era portrayed in 'Best Enemies' when he discovered the Beatles and presented them on T.V. for the first time.''
This Australian theatrical feature film never was distributed in cinemas in its home country of Australia nor did it ever garner a home video release on tape there either during the 1980s and went straight to television screenings.
The film was financed by a pre-sale to the Channel Seven television network and the Special Production Fund of the Australian Film Commission (AFC).
This Australian film was inspired by the book ''Siren Voices'' (1896) by Henry Handel Richardson. This was actually a translation by Richardson of a Danish novel entitled ''Niels Lyhne'' (1880) which had been written by Jens Peter Jacobsen (aka J.P. Jacobsen). Hence, one can see the similarity of the original Danish title of ''Niels Lyhne'' and the movie title of 'Niel Lynne''.
It took the film's writer-director David Baker about eight years to make and finance this Australian movie.
