Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai have announced the G3 Reunion Live album, arriving January 31st. The virtuoso guitarists’ extended jam on Cream‘s “Crossroads” can be streamed now.

The live album was captured during the trio’s performance at the The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles earlier this year as part of the 2024 G3 reunion tour.

Arriving on 4-lp and 2-cd, the live album recreates the actual format of the G3 concerts: each guitarist performing a distinct set before the three virtuosos take the stage together for an all-out jam session.

The first LP features a full set from Vai; the second LP belongs to Eric Johnson; the third LP is Satriani; and the fourth LP (on splatter vinyl) houses the jam session — a medley of “Crossroads,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Spanish Castle Magic,” and a closing rendition of Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild.”

Dave Allison, original guitarist for the cult thrash metal band Anvil, has died at the age of 68. He reportedly passed away after a battle with cancer.

Allison shared guitar duties in Anvil alongside frontman Steve “Lips” Kudlow from 1981 through 1989, performing on five studio albums, including fan favorites Metal on Metal (1982) and Forged in Fire (1983). The 1989 live album, Past and Present: Live in Concert, would be Allison’s final record with the band.

The band shared the following statement via The Vinyl Frontier Canada:

“We’d like to send our deepest condolences to the Allison family and friends. Dave passed away this morning. He was a close friend and we will miss him. He was proud of his early contributions to Anvil, and his name and legacy live on. Rest in peace, Dave Squirly Allison.”

Both Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner each paid personal tribute to the late guitarist on social media.

She has most recently been working on the Netflix and Apple commissions, both of which were first revealed by Deadline last year. Roku announced on Tuesday that The Roku Channel has launched 14 Warner Bros.-branded linear channels, detailed below. On one of them, the WB TV Watchlist Channel, The Nevers will debut this Saturday, April 8 at 10 am Et, with a marathon of all 12 episodes (including the six that never aired on HBO).

Many of the shows that have been dropped from HBO Max streaming are now on the 13 new WB-themed Roku channels, the streaming hardware and software maker announced on Tuesday. WB TV Watchlist will now be home to sci-series “Westworld” and “Raised by Wolves” as well as “La Femme Nikita.”

HBO Max revealed in December that they would be licensing shows including “Westworld” to third-party Fast services. Roku has its own Fast service, the Roku Channel, and hosts third-party channels through a channel store.

There’s enough WB content for 13 Roku channels, some of which are dedicated to family programming, true crime, pets, reality TV series, and do-it-yourself.

Pete Townshend has released a new song, “Can’t Outrun the Truth,” his first solo single in 29 years. The track was composed and produced by Rachel Fuller (Townshend’s wife and sometimes collaborator) under the name Charlie Pepper, and reflects on the lack of human interaction caused by the pandemic.

That was the idea when a rep for Peter Fonda, who starred in the film as the laid-back Captain America, reached out to New York impresario Peter Shapiro and Live Nation earlier this year about staging an event where the movie would be screened with the soundtrack performed live by some of the legendary musicians who appeared on it.

When Friday night’s “Easy Rider Live” show at Radio City Hall Music in New York was announced in late July, Fonda had not yet passed away from lung cancer. Peter Fonda, a two-time Oscar nominee best known for his work in the groundbreaking Easy Rider, which he co-wrote, produced, and co-starred in, has died at age 79.

The son of Hollywood legend Henry Fonda, brother of actress Jane Fonda, and father of actress Bridget Fonda, his death was confirmed by his publicist.

“It is with deep sorrow that we share the news that Peter Fonda has passed away. Fonda, 79 years old, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 16th at 11:05am at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by family. The official cause of death was respiratory failure due to lung cancer.

Easy Rider will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a screening and concert at Manhattan’s Radio City Music Hall September 20th. The groundbreaking counterculture biker film, which stars Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson, will be shown in sync with a live performance of the legendary soundtrack.

“America’s Got Talent” rocker Courtney Hadwin has signed a deal with Arista Record in partnership with Simon Cowell’s Syco Music, the label announced today.

“It feels amazing to be joining Syco and I am super excited and feel so lucky,” said the native of Hartlepool in Northern England. “I’ve always wanted to work on original songs and to be able to do that with the support of Syco while staying true to myself and the music I like is a dream come true. I can’t thank them enough for giving me this chance.”

Focus initiative aims to provide business support to Scottish film and TV companies.

Twenty companies have been selected for a £500,000 initiative to provide business support for Scottish TV and film production companies.

For the two-year pilot project called Focus, Screen Scotland partners Creative Scotland and Scottish Enterprise have allocated £250,000 each to be spread across the participating companies.

These companies are expected to contribute a further £250,000 between them to create a potential £750,000 of total project funding. Applications for the scheme are now closed.

Hong Kong-made action-thriller “L Storm” topped the Chinese box office with an opening weekend score of $29.4 million. That gave it nearly 60% market share on another quiet weekend in Chinese theaters.

The weekend was characterized by the release of a large number of smaller titles into a window ahead of the Autumn Festival holiday blockbusters at the end of the month. Only “L Storm” made any significant impact, and was the third highest grossing film worldwide, according to ComScore.

The movie is a sequel to 2016 title “S Storm” and involves popular star Louis Koo as an anti-corruption investigator, this time apparently on the wrong side of the law. Directed by David Lam, it is produced by Raymond Wong’s Pegasus Films, and counts Huace Pictures, Wanda, and Er Dong Pictures as mainland Chinese co-producers. Data from Ent Group show it given a wide release, with over 120,000 screenings per day.

“America’s Got Talent” may generally be considered the top broadcast show of the summer, but the NBC competition actually just beat CBS’ “Big Brother” head-to-head in the key ratings demo for the first time this season.

“AGT’s” Wednesday results show, which is generally lower-rated than the Tuesday performance episode, earned a 1.5 rating/7 share among adults 18-49 and 9.9 million total viewers. “Big Brother,” last night’s No. 2 show, posted a 1.4/7 and 5.6 million viewers.

With the season finale of Jennifer Lopez’s “World of Dance” filling out the next two hours, NBC walked away with an outright primetime win on Wednesday. Fox finished second in the main demographic, while CBS was runner-up in total viewers.

Shy teenager Courtney Hadwin gave a berserk performance of Steppenwolf’s “Born To Be Wild” during the “America’s Got Talent” semifinals on Tuesday, which even had her out of breath.

While sci-fi epics and action-adventures have dominated theaters over the past few months, two fresh genres are looking to shake things up at the domestic box office.

Horror thriller “A Quiet Place” and R-rated comedy “Blockers” are expected to have solid openings this weekend, with the former likely to take the crown.

Paramount Pictures’ “A Quiet Place” — John Krasinski’s third directorial effort and first for a major studio — could launch to as much as $30 million from 3,200 locations, but other estimates are in the low-$20 millions. The film, which opened at South by Southwest to rave reviews, currently boasts a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

“The Office” star Krasinski co-wrote the movie and stars alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt. The pic follows a family of four who must live in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound.

Another title hoping to translate SXSW enthusiasm into box office success is Universal’s “Blockers.
