Everything gets a kooky makeover in The Far Side, even something as routine and mundane as beverages, specifically, coffee and tea. Gary Larson always knew how to put his own unique Far Side take on just about everything, extending his trademark sense of humor and talent for surreal imagery into his comics that featured coffee and tea. Given that coffee and tea are some of the most popular drinks around the world, it is not all that surprising that they have been made a part of multiple Far Side comic strips.
Whether it be cowboys having coffee drinking contests or one small but intense detail of Hell, The Far Side never strays from its absurdist qualities, even for comic strips that show something of the everyday like coffee and tea. One wonders if other specific drinks and food items have gotten the spotlight in The Far Side, calling for some...

Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, and Steve Vai have announced the G3 Reunion Live album, arriving January 31st. The virtuoso guitarists’ extended jam on Cream‘s “Crossroads” can be streamed now.
The live album was captured during the trio’s performance at the The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles earlier this year as part of the 2024 G3 reunion tour.
Arriving on 4-lp and 2-cd, the live album recreates the actual format of the G3 concerts: each guitarist performing a distinct set before the three virtuosos take the stage together for an all-out jam session.
The first LP features a full set from Vai; the second LP belongs to Eric Johnson; the third LP is Satriani; and the fourth LP (on splatter vinyl) houses the jam session — a medley of “Crossroads,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Spanish Castle Magic,” and a closing rendition of Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild.”

After three DC Comics-based box office bombs in a row this year, Warner Bros. is hoping to score a win with Aquaman's second solo outing -- but the signs so far aren't positive.
Between rumors of behind-the-scenes turmoil and a review embargo lifting just a few hours before preview showings begin in North America, some fans feared that "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" might stink worse than a fish market. Based on the first wave of reviews, it seems those fears were justified.

It ended with the troupe gesturing to an empty middle chair on the judges’ dais. Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli wept.

Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity — the stars of Ryan White’s inspirational and wonderfully engaging “Good Night Oppy” — were designed to last 90 days on the Red Planet. Instead, they went right on exploring the alien terrain for years, sending invaluable data and images back to NASA the whole time. For scientists, students and astronomy buffs around the world, the two robots became mascots for a historic mission, the goal of which was to find evidence of past water on Earth’s nearest neighbor, for that in turn could suggest the possibility of life on Mars.
To call the Mer experiment a success would be an understatement, but it wasn’t until this delightful documentary that a more important point became clear: As it turns out, for nearly 15 years, there was life on Mars: Within the opening minutes of “Good Night Oppy,” White convinces us that these two solar-powered, remote-controlled research...

In a year full of major 50th anniversary commemorations — from Woodstock to the moon landing — why not one for “Easy Rider,” Dennis Hopper’s hippie-biker flick that was released on July 14, 1969?
That was the idea when a rep for Peter Fonda, who starred in the film as the laid-back Captain America, reached out to New York impresario Peter Shapiro and Live Nation earlier this year about staging an event where the movie would be screened with the soundtrack performed live by some of the legendary musicians who appeared on it.
When Friday night’s “Easy Rider Live” show at Radio City Hall Music in New York was announced in late July, Fonda had not yet passed away from lung cancer. Before his death at age 79 on August 16, Fonda encouraged fans to come, saying, “Enjoy the new print. Sing along with the songs. Laugh with the humor! Remember the spirit! Find the love.

Is Simon Cowell looking to sign “America’s Got Talent” finalist Courtney Hadwin to a record deal?
Several news outlets, including the U.K.’s Daily Mail, are reporting that Cowell — formerly of “American Idol” and a current judge on “Agt” as well as “X Factor U.K.” — is keen to add the 14-year old rocker to his artist roster at Syco Entertainment, which includes “Agt” season 11 winner Grace Vanderwall.
While a representative for Cowell would not comment on whether a signing is in the works, the spokesperson did confirm that the teen vocalist, who finished sixth in the competition and was eliminated on Sept. 19, met with Cowell the day after the Sept. 20 finale at his house. This news comes on the heels of the announcement that Hadwin will join the season 13 “Agt” winner, magician Shin Lin, in Las Vegas.

Courtney Hadwin is all but certain to win America’s Got Talent” on Wednesday following her scorching rendition of the Tina Turner classic “River Deep, Mountain High” on Tuesday’s live show. The little girl with the big voice has been the frontrunner to win season 13 of “Agt” ever since we saw her taped audition back in June. This teen talent then sailed through the quarterfinal and semifinal before stealing the show on Tuesday’s final.
At her audition, this English schoolgirl inspired Howie Mandel to hit the Golden Buzzer for her scorching rendition of the Otis Redding song “Hard to Handle.” Being singled out for this special treatment that meant she went straight through to the live shows. She was the last act on the first quarterfinal and won the popular vote with another cover, James Brown‘s “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag.” Likewise, she closed out...

Courtney Hadwin may regret being the “America’s Got Talent” frontrunner from the very start of the season. With just hours left before she performs in the “Agt” final on Tuesday September 18, this teenage singing sensation has seen her lead over magician Shin Lim shrink. Indeed the latter, a sleight-of-hand artist, has pulled perilously close to her in our predictions. However, Hadwin still has the edge according to our exclusive odds, albeit a very small one.
Hadwin and Lim have not faced off against each other since the first quarterfinal when they numbered among the seven acts put through. They went on to appear on separate semifinals. Lim was the stand-out act on the first semifinal on Sept. 4 while Hadwin stole the show on the Sept. 11 second semifinal. Tuesday’s live final on NBC will bring us the much-anticipated title bout of Courtney Hadwin vs. Shin Lim.
Are you on Team Hadwin or Team Lim?...

Hong Kong-made action-thriller “L Storm” topped the Chinese box office with an opening weekend score of $29.4 million. That gave it nearly 60% market share on another quiet weekend in Chinese theaters.
The weekend was characterized by the release of a large number of smaller titles into a window ahead of the Autumn Festival holiday blockbusters at the end of the month. Only “L Storm” made any significant impact, and was the third highest grossing film worldwide, according to ComScore.
The movie is a sequel to 2016 title “S Storm” and involves popular star Louis Koo as an anti-corruption investigator, this time apparently on the wrong side of the law. Directed by David Lam, it is produced by Raymond Wong’s Pegasus Films, and counts Huace Pictures, Wanda, and Er Dong Pictures as mainland Chinese co-producers. Data from Ent Group show it given a wide release, with over 120,000 screenings per day.

“America’s Got Talent” may generally be considered the top broadcast show of the summer, but the NBC competition actually just beat CBS’ “Big Brother” head-to-head in the key ratings demo for the first time this season.

With the season finale of Jennifer Lopez’s “World of Dance” filling out the next two hours, NBC walked away with an outright primetime win on Wednesday. Fox finished second in the main demographic, while CBS was runner-up in total viewers.

Shy teenager Courtney Hadwin gave a berserk performance of Steppenwolf’s “Born To Be Wild” during the “America’s Got Talent” semifinals on Tuesday, which even had her out of breath.
The 14-year-old singer, who first wowed audiences with her cover of “Hard to Handle” and was likened to Janis Joplin, stunned audiences again with her rendition of a hard rock song.
Howie Mandel, who gave her the golden buzzer earlier this season, and Simon Cowell gave her a standing ovation after Hadwin finished her set.

Courtney Hadwin is the clear frontrunner to win season 13 of “America’s Got Talent.” This English schoolgirl has been favored to take the title ever since her audition in June. Back then she wowed the crowd with her cover of the Otis Redding classic “Hard to Handle” and inspired Howie Mandel to hit the Golden Buzzer. That meant she got to go straight to the live shows.
She closed out quarterfinal 1 with another cover, James Brown‘s “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag.” Courtney easily sailed through to the semifinals. She was the last act to perform on the second “Agt” semi-final and rocked the house with Steppenwolf‘s “Born to Be Wild.”
Which of these performances do you rate as Courtney’s best? Take a look at each of these videos below and then vote in our poll on Hadwin’s taped audition versus her quarterfinal and semifinal live appearances.

While sci-fi epics and action-adventures have dominated theaters over the past few months, two fresh genres are looking to shake things up at the domestic box office.
Horror thriller “A Quiet Place” and R-rated comedy “Blockers” are expected to have solid openings this weekend, with the former likely to take the crown.
Paramount Pictures’ “A Quiet Place” — John Krasinski’s third directorial effort and first for a major studio — could launch to as much as $30 million from 3,200 locations, but other estimates are in the low-$20 millions. The film, which opened at South by Southwest to rave reviews, currently boasts a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“The Office” star Krasinski co-wrote the movie and stars alongside his real-life wife, Emily Blunt. The pic follows a family of four who must live in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound.
Another title hoping to translate SXSW enthusiasm into box office success is Universal’s “Blockers.
