Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon are taking the title of their next film to heart. They’re set to direct the horror-comedy project “Family Movie” and star alongside their children, Travis and Sosie Bacon.

The foursome will produce for Mixed Breed Films alongside Norman Golightly at Dark Castle Entertainment. Neon International will represent the foreign rights and introduce it at AFM this week while CAA Media Finance will represent the U.S. rights.

My main issue with Only Murders In The Building season 4, which I’ve made very clear over the last few reviews, is that there hasn’t been enough Jane Lynch this season. Fans of actor Bill Paxton — and we are legion — likely know that he made his directorial debut in 1980, helming the music video for Barnes & Barnes' immortal classic "Fish Heads." Josh Greenbaum, the filmmaker of “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” and the upcoming documentary “Will & Harper,” is directing the film. Ben Stiller’s company Red Hour Films and Rivulet Films will serve as producers. Sean Clements wrote the screenplay for “The Dink,” which is set to begin principle photography this November in Los Angeles.

Johnson will play a washed-up tennis pro who is trying to save a club in crisis and win his father’s respect. But in the process, he’s forced to break a solemn vow and do the one thing he swore he’d never do: play pickleball. Pair that with Steven Spielberg and you get an Oscar-winning, Emmy-grabbing work of art that can cast a mile-long shadow over every other project coming out of the studio lineup in the same year.

In 1998, the iconic actor-director duo made history by marrying their talents in Saving Private Ryan after an incredible lot of hemming and hawing. Like us mortals, Spielberg and Hanks too were afraid of ruining a good friendship by adding business into the mix. But like all functional relationships, their adventure stood the test of time, though not without a few disagreements first.

Ron Howard's acting career was part of a family legacy, as his father, Rance, was already a prolific performer when he was born in 1954. Howard's first professional acting credit is for the 1959 feature "The Journey," with Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr. Exclusive: Alysia Russo, who was Head of Docuseries at Amazon MGM Studios, is moving to Netflix.

It marks a rare senior executive moving directly between two rival studios.

Russo is understood to be working on feature docs at Netflix. While there are two executives from this team on maternity leave, Russo’s role is unrelated and is a temporary contract, thought to be 18 months.

Russo was behind Amazon docuseries such as LulaRich and its upcoming Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Story, which comes from the producers of ID’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.

Her move comes less than four months after a restructure within Amazon MGM Studios.

In May, Russo’s boss Lauren Anderson, who was Head of AVOD Programming and Studios Unscripted across U.S. Prime Video and Amazon Freevee, was named Head, Brand and Content Innovation, but continuing to oversee the AVOD originals team.

After gracing the screens at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Ron Howard's Eden seeks a theatrical/streaming release. 

Howard, best known for directing films like Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind, has been on the festival circuit this year, touting his latest big-screen venture alongside stars Jude Law (Captain Marvel), Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Ana De Armas (Knives Out), and Vanessa Kirby (Fantastic Four). 

This new movie Eden centers on Law and Kirby's on-screen husband and wife, two German progressives who flee their country in the early 1900s. Alongside some of their neighbors, they settle on an island in the Galapagos, only for the realities of survival to set in.

The films of Ron Howard – usually polite, Oscar-aiming true stories such as A Beautiful Mind or Apollo 13 or solidly made, anonymous IP blockbusters such as The Grinch or The Da Vinci Code – have not shown the director to be someone greatly interested in exploring or even showing much awareness of real, down-to-the-core darkness. His All-American persona, as a well-meaning aw shucks nice guy (who now claims shock upon hearing the subject of his 2020 film Hillbilly Elegy might actually not be such an inspiring figure after all) would not make him seem like the perfect match for a nasty and violent tale of the horrors we’re willing to inflict upon each other to get what we want.

Netflix looks to keep up with the exciting rush of the fall movie season with its own packed slate of original movies starring some of the most talented stars of the screen. Anyone who takes a serious look at the film career of Kevin Bacon would know at a glance that he is much more than the subject of a ’90s parlor game. From his screen debut in the 1978 comedy classic “National Lampoon’s Animal House,” Bacon has, over the 45+ years he has appeared on screen, made a seamless segue from hunky heartthrob to respected character actor without missing a beat.

The Starz September 2024 schedule includes the premiere of Three Women, a limited series based on the New York Times bestselling book that explores female desire through the compellingly raw and honest stories of three women on a crash course to radically change their lives.

Part Two of the final season of Power Book II: Ghost will also premiere. On the film front, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Imaginary, Arthur the King, Knock at the Cabin, The Strangers: Chapter 1, Training Day, Ant-Man, and several other notable titles will join the Starz app this month.

Just nine months after Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, NASA faced its greatest crisis — three astronauts stranded halfway to the moon on a spacecraft that had suffered a catastrophic explosion. Using original footage and interviews, this documentary tells the nail-biting story of Apollo 13 and the struggle to bring its astronauts safely home. Everyone knows the famous Apollo 13 movie starring Tom Hanks & Bill Paxton (from 1995 - which is one of my favorites), but this doc features actual footage and tells the real story.

The Season 5 premiere of “9-1-1: Lone Star” promises an epic disaster to kick off the Fox series’ return: A train full of toxic chemicals crashes, leading to a “poison cloud of death,” as dispatch tells the rattled firefighters of the 126 in the trailer that Fox shared on Monday.

Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe), channels Tom Hanks in “Apollo 13,” when he says, “Dispatch, we have a problem,” after seeing that passengers who survived the crash are bleeding from their eyes and mouth.

Turns out Glen Powell may have deeper connections to the “Twister” franchise than you might think. Before he burst onto the scene with supporting roles in films like “Everybody Wants Some!!” and “Hidden Figures,” Powell was the lead of an independent romantic western from 2013 called “Red Wing” that co-starred fellow Texan actor and lead of the original “Twister,” Bill Paxton. The two bonded during the making of the film, with Paxton’s character serving as somewhat of a mentor to Powell’s and the relationship carrying on into real life.

In a recent interview on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” speaking on working with Paxton, Powell said, “I shot this movie called ‘Red Wing’ years and years ago, and Bill and I became really close on that movie.”

In a post on social media, Powell remembered the late Twister actor and tipped his hat to his Red Wing co-star.

“As we release Twisters into the world today, I just wanted to look up and tip my hat to the legend that is Bill Paxton,” Powell shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “A great friend of mine who saw poetry in the natural world. Viggo Mortensen called out Amazon in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine for the company’s decision to scrap an extensive theatrical release for Ron Howard’s 2022 movie “Thirteen Lives” and give it a global streaming launch instead. Mortensen, who starred in the well-reviewed Thai cave rescue thriller opposite Colin Farrell and Joel Edgerton, said the film was a “really good movie” that MGM intended to give a full blown theatrical release to after “they did their test screenings for that movie and got the highest scores in the history of that studio.”

“They were going to put it out worldwide in many, many, many thousands of theaters,” Mortensen said. “Then Amazon bought MGM, initially promised to respect the deal that MGM had made with Ron Howard, and then they went back on that. Basically you saw that movie for a week in Chicago, New York and LA, London, and that was that.

Let’s flashback to the summer of ’95 when movies were more than flicks—they were cultural events, grand spectacles that had everyone buzzing. That year, theaters were ablaze with standout blockbusters that defined the summer movie season. Michael Bay’s explosive Bad Boys kicked off the buddy cop genre into high gear with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence turning the charm up to eleven. Then there was Die Hard with a Vengeance, where Bruce Willis teamed up with Samuel L.
