Bryce Dallas Howard "very badly" wants to work with her legendary filmmaker father Ron Howard. The 43-year-old actress has appeared as an extra for her dad but hasn't worked with the 70-year-old director "professionally as an actor" and she hopes that will change.Speaking recently at Steel City Con in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, she said: "When I was like seven, I was an extra, but I’ve never worked with him professionally as an actor, with dialogue and all of that. "But I want to. I want to very badly. And I would always sort of harass him about it. And now I’m like, 'Let’s talk, dude.'"Bryce has fond memories of being on set with the Oscar-winning director - whose credits include 1984's 'Splash', 1985's 'Cocoon', 2001's 'A Beautiful Mind', 1995's 'Apollo 13', and 2016 documentary 'The Beatles: Eight Days a Week' - growing up.

In Ed Harris‘s over-40-year career he has surprisingly never won an Oscar or an Emmy, despite four nominations from the motion picture academy and two from the TV academy. Let’s take a look back at some of his best big-screen performances. Tour through our photo gallery above of Harris’s 15 greatest films, ranked from worst to best.
Harris received his first Oscar nomination in 1995 after almost two decades in front of the camera: Best Supporting Actor for “Apollo 13.” He subsequently competed for “The Truman Show” (Best Supporting Actor in 1998), “Pollock” (Best Actor in 2000), and “The Hours” (Best Supporting Actor in 2002). He didn’t win any of those, and he hasn’t been nominated since, despite acclaimed performances in such films as “A History of Violence” (2005) and “Mother!” (2017).

Amid the launch of Taylor Sheridan’s latest series, Landman, oil isn’t the only precious resource being discovered in Texas. Content from the venerable publication Texas Monthly has been enjoying an unprecedented boom of interest from Hollywood, with adapted projects ranging from the Paramount+ drama and Richard Linklater’s recent Netflix movie Hit Man to the HBO limited series Love & Death and the Discovery+ documentary series How to Create a Sex Scandal.
Why so much from the venerable 51-year-old magazine, and why lately? One reason is the entertainment zeitgeist has caught up to what Texas Monthly has always done well. The magazine has a long history of compelling and in-depth true crime reporting, particularly by award-winning writer Skip Hollandsworth (who wrote the piece that inspired Hit Man).

Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon are taking the title of their next film to heart. They’re set to direct the horror-comedy project “Family Movie” and star alongside their children, Travis and Sosie Bacon.
The foursome will produce for Mixed Breed Films alongside Norman Golightly at Dark Castle Entertainment. Neon International will represent the foreign rights and introduce it at AFM this week while CAA Media Finance will represent the U.S. rights.
The film, based on a screenplay by Dan Beers (“Premature”), follows an eclectic but tight-knit family of filmmakers who suddenly find themselves in a real-life horror movie when a body turns up on the set of their latest low-budget slasher. As the production spirals comically out of control, they realize the only solution to keep filming is to cover up the murder, by any means necessary.

When people think of Tom Hanks, they tend to call to mind a decent, stalwart American whose against-all-odds heroics inspire them to persevere when facing their own travails. They think of "Saving Private Ryan," "Apollo 13," even "Toy Story" -- some of Hanks' best films, and ones that could've easily starred classic Hollywood actor James Stewart had he been thriving during Hanks' heyday.
There is, of course, more to Tom Hanks than this. Indeed, it often seems like people have memory-holed the star's zany, adult-skewing comedies like "Bachelor Party," "The Man with One Red Shoe," and "Volunteers." And what of the noble box-office misfires "Punchline," "Joe Versus the Volcano," and "Charlie Wilson's War?" Hanks can play a loser or a cad when called upon, which, if you've a firm grasp of film history, is as Jimmy Stewart as it gets.

Since his time spent writing for "Saturday Night Live," John Mulaney has become quite an accomplished stand-up comedian. But he's also stuck to his roots by becoming one of the most consistently great hosts of "SNL," so much that we've actually named him as one of the 10 best "SNL" hosts of all time, along with some historical heavy hitters. That's why we couldn't be more thrilled to have seen him return to Studio 8H in 30 Rockefeller Plaza for the first time since he joined the prestigious Five Timers Club.
One of the most wonderful staples of John Mulaney's "SNL" hosting appearances, along with a typically great monologue of fresh stand-up bits, has been a series of musical sketches situated around some kind of quirky, dingy staple of New York City. From "Diner Lobster" to "Subway Churro," they all use strange covers of songs from iconic stage musicals to fuel these...

As the film begins, we’re immediately plunged into the unfolding events of that famous, flawed mission to the moon. Through restored recordings and footage, we experience the mission as if we were there. Every moment is brought to life with such clarity and intimacy.
We join the astronauts aboard Apollo 13 in the early hours, all going to plan as their craft lifts off from the launchpad. But just over two days into the journey, with the crew encamped over 200,000 miles into the black, distant void, it all changes in an instant. An explosion—the cause still unknown all these years later. Oxygen venting, electrical systems crashing, a wave of panic and uncertainty washing over the crew, and everyone following back on earth.
Director Peter Middleton understands that sometimes the most compelling storytelling comes from simply stepping aside and letting the historical record speak for itself. Through meticulously sourced archives,...

When Hugh Grant hit it big in 1995 after Four Weddings and a Funeral, his career was nearly derailed by a scandelous encounter in Hollywood that many predicted he’d never recover from. Yet, recover he did, and now, nearly 30 years removed from the incident, Hugh Grant can’t help but poke fun, bringing the house to its knees at a recent event with a refreshingly off-the-cuff joke at his own expense.
Hugh Grant was in attendance at the Tcl Chinese Theatre as part of a screening at AFI Fest this week. Once he stepped up to the mic, Grant gave attention to both the movie he was there promoting (Heretic) and the location of the screening. “I have nothing interesting to add to that except that it is very nice to be here. Hollywood Boulevard has always been a lucky place for me.”

Secrets are revealed in the penultimate episode of Only Murders In The Building season 4. Here’s our review of episode 9.
My main issue with Only Murders In The Building season 4, which I’ve made very clear over the last few reviews, is that there hasn’t been enough Jane Lynch this season. Each season has given a decent amount of screentime to the murder victim as our podcasting trio solve their murder, but Sazz Pataki has been curiously missing from the action.
Thankfully, episode 9 solves that problem.
But let’s back up a little. Last week’s episode clarified that the Westies did not murder Dudenoff and certainly not Sazz. In fact, Dudenoff killed himself and simply asked that the residents throw his body into the incinerator, lie that he’s moved to Portugal and keep cashing his checks in order to stay living in their cheap apartments. It sounds...

Fans of actor Bill Paxton — and we are legion — likely know that he made his directorial debut in 1980, helming the music video for Barnes & Barnes' immortal classic "Fish Heads." The video, made on a very, very low budget, featured Paxton as a buyer and enthusiast of the titular ichthyoid crania, shown throwing them a birthday party and generally enjoying their company. The video also featured a cameo from Dr. Demento, the famed Los Angeles DJ responsible for proliferating hundreds of well-known novelty hits, and for bringing "Weird Al" Yankovic to the world's attention. Paxton was a weird, wonderful man who ran on the fringes. The fact that he became a well-known mainstream star is kind of wild.
Paxton, of course, began appearing in feature films in the late 1970s and early 1980s, starring in notable genre films like "Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker" and "Mortuary." Many likely first noticed him in...

Kevin Bacon has been in the industry for several decades. The actor has delivered many hits, cementing his foothold in Hollywood. His masterful acting and enchanting performances have garnered the actor praise from both fans and critics.
However, most fans don’t know that back in 2009 the Footloose actor was struggling with one film. Bacon was given the opportunity to portray the role of a real-life U.S. Marine, Lt. Tom Hanks – a name that immediately evokes warm, honey-flavored feelings of comfort and delight when it comes to the world of show business and entertainment. Pair that with Steven Spielberg and you get an Oscar-winning, Emmy-grabbing work of art that can cast a mile-long shadow over every other project coming out of the studio lineup in the same year.
In 1998, the iconic actor-director duo made history by marrying their talents in Saving Private Ryan after an incredible lot of hemming and hawing. In 1998, the iconic actor-director duo made history by marrying their talents in Saving Private Ryan after an incredible lot of hemming and hawing. Ron Howard's acting career was part of a family legacy, as his father, Rance, was already a prolific performer when he was born in 1954. Howard's first professional acting credit is for the 1959 feature "The Journey," with Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr. That same year, the five-year-old Ron infiltrated TV, appearing as precocious moppets in multiple hot shows.
More notably, beginning in 1960, Ron -- credited as Ronny -- began starring on "The Andy Griffith Show," playing Opie, the son of Griffith's character. Howard would appear in 243 of the show's 249 episodes, over the course of eight seasons. While appearing on "Andy Griffith," Howard would continue to be a TV presence, appearing in dozens of additional hot shows, as well as several notable B-pictures.
Even in his teen years, Howard continued to act, proving that he was no mere child prodigy. He appeared in George Lucas' nostalgia film "American Graffiti," and...

Exclusive: Alysia Russo, who was Head of Docuseries at Amazon MGM Studios, is moving to Netflix.
It marks a rare senior executive moving directly between two rival studios.
Russo is understood to be working on feature docs at Netflix. While there are two executives from this team on maternity leave, Russo’s role is unrelated and is a temporary contract, thought to be 18 months.
Russo was behind Amazon docuseries such as LulaRich and its upcoming Glitter and Greed: The Lisa Frank Story, which comes from the producers of ID’s Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.
Her move comes less than four months after a restructure within Amazon MGM Studios.
In May, Russo’s boss Lauren Anderson, who was Head of AVOD Programming and Studios Unscripted across U.S. Prime Video and Amazon Freevee, was named Head, Brand and Content Innovation, but continuing to oversee the AVOD originals team.

After gracing the screens at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Ron Howard's Eden seeks a theatrical/streaming release.
Howard, best known for directing films like Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind, has been on the festival circuit this year, touting his latest big-screen venture alongside stars Jude Law (Captain Marvel), Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Ana De Armas (Knives Out), and Vanessa Kirby (Fantastic Four).
This new movie Eden centers on Law and Kirby's on-screen husband and wife, two German progressives who flee their country in the early 1900s. Alongside some of their neighbors, they settle on an island in the Galapagos, only for the realities of survival to set in.

Toronto film festival: Jude Law, Vanessa Kirby, Sydney Sweeney and Ana de Armas fight for supremacy on a remote island in this 1930s-set true story that descends into tiresomely silly reversals
The films of Ron Howard – usually polite, Oscar-aiming true stories such as A Beautiful Mind or Apollo 13 or solidly made, anonymous IP blockbusters such as The Grinch or The Da Vinci Code – have not shown the director to be someone greatly interested in exploring or even showing much awareness of real, down-to-the-core darkness. His All-American persona, as a well-meaning aw shucks nice guy (who now claims shock upon hearing the subject of his 2020 film Hillbilly Elegy might actually not be such an inspiring figure after all) would not make him seem like the perfect match for a nasty and violent tale of the horrors we’re willing to inflict upon each other to get what we want.

Visionary director Ron Howard delivers a psychological thriller like no other with Eden. Premiering in 2024 at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film transports viewers to a remote island in the Galapagos archipelago in the 1930s. There, a handful of troubled souls each seek isolation from the outside world. But what begins as individual pursuits of solitude inevitably leads to conflict.
We meet Friedrich, a self-absorbed German doctor wishing to write in seclusion with his partner Dore. But their remote paradise is disrupted by the arrival of the kindly Witmer couple, Heinz and Margaret, hoping to join Friedrich’s utopian vision. Tensions grow as these clashing personalities collide on the unforgiving island terrain. Just as tensions start to thaw between the families, another interloper, the enigmatic Baroness, arrives with ambitions that threaten each group’s fragile existence.

Director Ron Howard has always been a fascinating filmmaker. He’s delivered some of the most entertaining American films ever made, like “Apollo 13,” as well as complete and total disasters, like “Hillbilly Elegy.” That makes “Eden,” a solid yet darkly silly historical thriller set on a remote uninhabited island in the Galápagos, such a breath of fresh air. It’s not his greatest work, but it’s still the type of film that you exhale upon seeing as you realize he’s still got some heaters.
Though built around an excellent ensemble cast of Jude Law, Vanessa Kirby and Ana de Armas, it’s Sydney Sweeney who runs away with the whole thing. She doesn’t always give the loudest performance of the bunch, though it’s her subtle looks and a growing agency that turns “Eden” into something more. Also, if you thought you would never again see...

Exclusive: It doesn’t happen often, but Ron Howard is here in Toronto today to unveil at the Toronto Film Festival his new film Eden. What’s unusual for the Oscar winner whose films have grossed billions, is that the film is up for grabs for distribution as an acquisition title. Eden might seem a close cousin to his harrowing Thai rescue film Thirteen Lives, but this one has a sinister edge unusual for Howard. Based on a true story, Eden stars Jude Law, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Bruehl, Ana de Armas, Toby Wallace and Felix Kammerer as the members of three parties who flee post-wwi civilization to start over and build paradise on the Galapagos Islands. It devolves into a Lord of the Flies battle to survive the elements, and each other. Eden‘s world premiere is set for 5:45 p.m. tonight at Roy Thomson Hall.

Anyone who takes a serious look at the film career of Kevin Bacon would know at a glance that he is much more than the subject of a ’90s parlor game. From his screen debut in the 1978 comedy classic “National Lampoon’s Animal House,” Bacon has, over the 45+ years he has appeared on screen, made a seamless segue from hunky heartthrob to respected character actor without missing a beat.
During his distinguished career, Bacon has appeared in romcoms, crime dramas, musicals and even a slasher movie or two. winning along the way a Critics Choice Award, a pair of Golden Globes and two Screen Actors Guild Awards. Yet, despite co-starring in such Oscar-winning films as “JFK,” “Mystic River” and “Apollo 13,” Bacon, incredibly, has never been nominated for an Academy Award himself. But as he is still much in demand as a working actor, there’s plenty of time for that particular honor.

"I think it is the most critical situation we've faced so far in the manned space flight program." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled Apollo 13: Survival, a gripping look at the true story of what really happened on Apollo 13 in the spring of 1970. This premiered at Cph:dox and it will be streaming on Netflix in early September for everyone. Just nine months after Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, NASA faced its greatest crisis — three astronauts stranded halfway to the moon on a spacecraft that had suffered a catastrophic explosion. Using original footage and interviews, this documentary tells the nail-biting story of Apollo 13 and the struggle to bring its astronauts safely home. Everyone knows the famous Apollo 13 movie starring Tom Hanks & Bill Paxton (from 1995 - which is one of my favorites), but this doc features actual footage and tells the real story.

The Season 5 premiere of “9-1-1: Lone Star” promises an epic disaster to kick off the Fox series’ return: A train full of toxic chemicals crashes, leading to a “poison cloud of death,” as dispatch tells the rattled firefighters of the 126 in the trailer that Fox shared on Monday.
Captain Owen Strand (Rob Lowe), channels Tom Hanks in “Apollo 13,” when he says, “Dispatch, we have a problem,” after seeing that passengers who survived the crash are bleeding from their eyes and mouth.
The multi-episode arc puts both Strand’s firefighters and Captain Tommy Vega’s paramedics team in danger. (Watch the trailer in the video above.)
Meanwhile, Judd (Jim Parrack) resigns to take care of his recently handicapped son Wyatt (Jackson Pace). As was previously reported, Sierra McClain, the actress who has played Judd’s wife for four seasons, will not be returning for Season 5. Her departure has sparked speculation...

I've said many times in the past that I generally prefer supernatural films over modern slashers, but Terrifier 3 is one of my most anticipated films this year, having absolutely loved the second film. And it's even better that we're getting the film in early October, so I'll be able to shock friends (and family) when I take them to see it as part of our Halloween celebrations. Turns out Glen Powell may have deeper connections to the “Twister” franchise than you might think. Before he burst onto the scene with supporting roles in films like “Everybody Wants Some!!” and “Hidden Figures,” Powell was the lead of an independent romantic western from 2013 called “Red Wing” that co-starred fellow Texan actor and lead of the original “Twister,” Bill Paxton. The two bonded during the making of the film, with Paxton’s character serving as somewhat of a mentor to Powell’s and the relationship carrying on into real life.
In a recent interview on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” speaking on working with Paxton, Powell said, “I shot this movie called ‘Red Wing’ years and years ago, and Bill and I became really close on that movie.”
Powell also shared with Colbert the impact the original “Twister” had on him growing up in Texas. Speaking to the late-night host,...

Glen Powell is paying tribute to Bill Paxton as Twisters get released in theaters.
In a post on social media, Powell remembered the late Twister actor and tipped his hat to his Red Wing co-star.
“As we release Twisters into the world today, I just wanted to look up and tip my hat to the legend that is Bill Paxton,” Powell shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “A great friend of mine who saw poetry in the natural world. His boots are impossible to fill, but this life is all about chasing the greats.”
Powell shared a photo with Paxton to accompany the post. The actors shared credits in 2013’s Red Wing, a Western directed by Will Wallace which also starred Breann Johnson, Joelle Carter, Luke Perry and Frances Fisher.

Viggo Mortensen called out Amazon in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine for the company’s decision to scrap an extensive theatrical release for Ron Howard’s 2022 movie “Thirteen Lives” and give it a global streaming launch instead. Mortensen, who starred in the well-reviewed Thai cave rescue thriller opposite Colin Farrell and Joel Edgerton, said the film was a “really good movie” that MGM intended to give a full blown theatrical release to after “they did their test screenings for that movie and got the highest scores in the history of that studio.”
“They were going to put it out worldwide in many, many, many thousands of theaters,” Mortensen said. “Then Amazon bought MGM, initially promised to respect the deal that MGM had made with Ron Howard, and then they went back on that. Basically you saw that movie for a week in Chicago, New York and LA, London, and that was that.

Let’s flashback to the summer of ’95 when movies were more than flicks—they were cultural events, grand spectacles that had everyone buzzing. That year, theaters were ablaze with standout blockbusters that defined the summer movie season. Michael Bay’s explosive Bad Boys kicked off the buddy cop genre into high gear with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence turning the charm up to eleven. Then there was Die Hard with a Vengeance, where Bruce Willis teamed up with Samuel L. Jackson in a thrilling game of cat and mouse through the streets of New York, which, for my money, is the best of the bunch. But let’s save that for another day. Even Disney threw its hat in the ring with Pocahontas, captivating audiences with its lush animation and heartfelt storytelling.
