Last year, Nathan Lane won his first Primetime Emmy Award for his guest-starring role as Teddy Dimas in the first season of the Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building.” After Teddy and his son Theo (James Caverly) landed in prison at the end of last season, Lane’s character returns to the Arconia apartment building where the series is set and unknowingly sparks trouble as his former friend Oliver (Emmy nominee Martin Short) questions the paternity of his son Will (Ryan Broussard). For his consequential return, Lane has earned another bid in the Best Comedy Guest Actor category and looks to defend his title.
Only one of last year’s contenders is back with him, namely, Sam Richardson for “Ted Lasso.” The rest of the category is rounded out by first-time nominees, past nominees and a returning champ. “The Bear” scored two bids for Jon Bernthal, his first, and Oliver Platt,...

Disney has a long and illustrious history, spanning 99 years and inspiring people all over the globe with its classic tales, innovative animation, and catchy tunes. Since Walt Disney, talented animators have been creating moving and thought-provoking stories for audiences of all ages, from the big screen to the living room TV.
Unfortunately, the studio abandoned some of these excellent concepts after they were just sketched. Fraidy Cat, a lost Disney Hitchcock-style mystery, was deemed too niche for kids.
What was the inspiration and the plot for ‘Fraidy Cat’?

For the seventh time in his long career, Nathan Lane will be trying to win his first ever Primetime Emmy Award. Lane is nominated in the Best Comedy Guest Actor category for his stint as Teddy Dimas on the first season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.”
Lane’s submission is “The Boy from 6B,” in which Lane, like most of the other characters in the episode, has no audible dialogue and primarily sees Lane communicating using American Sign Language. The episode opens in a flashback of Teddy telling his 10-year-old deaf son, Theo, that he wishes he could hear the soundtrack to the musical, “Carousel.” He tries to see if Theo can hear it through headphones with the volume turned up and presses the headphones against his head until he pulls back and apologizes.

This Monsters at Work review contains no spoilers.
Disney+ launched with the promise of bringing many adored Disney franchises to the small screen, but with big picture ambition, storytelling, and production values. So far, that promise has mostly been met, with the Disney+ original series like Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier feeling like stretched out features diced into episodic instalments. However, Monsters at Work, Disney+’s new sequel series to Pixar’s Monsters, Inc., feels more like traditional television than a “X-hour movie,” for better or worse.
Monsters at Work takes place immediately following 2001’s Monsters, Inc. After Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sully (John Goodman) discover that laughter generates ten times more power for the Monstropolis power plant than screams, Mike and Sully are put in charge. and tasked with helping the company transition from an organization of scarers to jokesters.

Two decades after the wonderfully zippy, goofy “Monsters, Inc.” was released in theaters, Pixar is bringing back Mike Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan for another adventure. The upcoming television series “Monsters at Work,” which premieres July 7 on Disney Plus, picks up where “Monsters, Inc.” left off, with CEO Henry J. Waternoose headed for the slammer, children deemed non-toxic, and laugh energy replacing the suddenly outmoded scream energy.
In reviving the beloved characters, voiced by Billy Crystal and John Goodman, showrunner Bobs Gannaway looked to expand the existing world with a new set of characters, among them Tylor Tuskmon (Ben Feldman), Val Little (Mindy Kaling) and Fritz (Henry Winkler). Tylor joins the company right out of Monsters University expecting to start work as a scarer, only to find out that the legendary energy company is scrambling to re-strategize. He’s instead assigned to Mift, the Monsters Inc. Facilities Team, an...

“It’s one of the best experiences of my career,” declares Nathan Lane. He’s speaking about playing Lewis Michener, a grizzled detective on Showtime’s “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels.” The story gives events from 1938 Los Angeles a supernatural bent and allows Lane to bring his character to surprisingly dark places. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“This is about what’s happening now, seen through this historical perspective,” explains Lane. Series creator and writer John Logan was adamant that the show not merely be a pretty period piece. The show is not afraid to dive headfirst into the racism and tension of the time period. The questions permeating every story beat are “how does history repeat itself? Are the monsters within us?”

Sequels and spin-offs and remakes, oh my! We examine the many extensions of Disney's classic, from direct-to-video movies to TV spin-offs
This Lion King article comes from Den of Geek UK.
The Lion King was an enormous hit for Disney back in 1994, and 25 years later, it seems likely it will imminently be an enormous hit again. But between Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff’s animated favorite and Jon Favreau’s “live-action” remake, the House of Mouse has not shied away from turning it into a franchise with various sequels and TV shows.
At the time the animated version was originally released, the studio was riding high on the critical and financial success of its 1990s renaissance, which started with The Little Mermaid and arguably peaked here. Having only created one sequel up to this point (1990’s The Rescuers Down Under), the studio’s feature division didn...

Thanks to “The Lion King” star Donald Glover, Chance the Rapper’s “nostalgia consultant” gig on the Disney film turned into some voice acting work. Chance grew up obsessively watching the 1994 original animated movie and Glover, who voices Simba in this year’s remake, knew that.
Glover “contacted me while they were working on it,” Chance said on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Tuesday. “He said, ‘I told Jon Favreau, the director, that you were a huge fan and he wants you to come in as a kind of nostalgia consultant to tell them what ’90s kids like about ‘Lion King.””
The 26-year-old Chance posted on Instagram last week that he couldn’t get enough “Lion King” while growing up — he loved the animated film and its sequels, the “Timon & Pumbaa” TV show and the broadway musical and its soundtrack. “Needless to say the original film was immensely...

The Tony Awards just toasted the best productions and performers of the past Broadway season, and in a few weeks two of the big winners there — Tony Shalhoub and Laurie Metcalf — may find themselves feted with nominations for Emmy Awards, too.
Shalhoub, who is a strong contender at the Emmys for the Amazon comedy series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” took home his first Tony Award his leading role in the musical “The Band’s Visit.” Metcalf, who is in the running at the Emmys for reprising her award-winning role on the reboot of sitcom “Roseanne,” claimed her second consecutive Tony this year for her brilliant performance in Edward Albee’s “Three Tall Women.”

From Men In Black to Free Willy and Jumanji, here's how these '90s movie properties ended up as Saturday morning cartoons.
As wise old Yogurt tells the heroes in Spaceballs, the money is really made in the merchandising of a movie, parodying the revolutionary drive for tie-in products and media that followed George Lucas' savvy handling of Star Wars. Yogurt's prophecy fulfilled itself when the film's writers Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan oversaw a short-lived and underwhelming spin-off, Spaceballs: The Animated Series in 2008.
When the film was originally released in 1987, the writing was already on the wall and one way in which studios could exploit their properties under the banner of an expanded universe was through animated spinoffs aimed at youngsters, with a view to selling toys and cereal based on that property too.
This was especially common with movies released in the 1990s, even...

Pop quiz: What do Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy have in common?
They're all part of the Disney family—as actors who have voiced key roles in animated summer flicks.
You'll remember Broderick (as Simba) and Jones (as Mufasa) from 1994's smash hit "The Lion King," a film that was nominated for a whopping four Oscars and took home two, including Best Original Score and Best Original Song.
Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy, meanwhile, come to us from the action-packed "Cars 2 3D," the highly anticipated sequel that follows star racecar Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater.
Now these two movies come together, because audiences will see the first four minutes of "The Lion King" in 3D (they didn't have that back in the '90s when it was made) in select theaters before "Cars 2 3D" begins.

When Disney announced they were making an animated film about the Brothers Grimm story Rapunzel
, I know I wasn’t one to be that excited about that idea. The story seemed very one note: A girl with long hair is locked up in a tower by an evil enchantress and it will take a prince to save her. Not much adventure and excitement when you mention that little synopsis.
But what the animation studio did instead was take the basic story of a girl named Rapunzel (Mandy Moore), taken from her parents who are king and queen of the kingdom by Gothel (Donna Murphy), who uses Rapunzel’s hair to keep from aging. When a rogue named Flynn (Zachary Levi) is on the run from the law after stealing the princess’ crown from the castle and stumbles upon the tower, he and Rapunzel are intertwined on...

Personally, I could care less about 3-D movies let along 3-D television, but as this technology rolls out and we'll be hearing more about 3-D TV during this week's Consumer Electronics Show, expect more announcement such as the one below.
Burbank, Calif. — January 3, 2011 — Continuing its leadership in the advancement of 3D entertainment and marking the most significant title commitment to the growing Blu-ray 3Dtm market, The Walt Disney Studios today announced plans to release at least 15 of its films for in-home viewing on Blu- ray 3D in 2011.
Among the stellar list of films to debut on 3D include beloved and celebrated animated classics The Lion King and Beauty And The Beast, recent theatrical releases including the visually stunning high tech adventure Tron: Legacy and acclaimed box-office smash hit Tangled, plus many others to be announced that will release day-and-date and packaged with the Blu-ray 2Dtm version.

Last month, Disney gave audiences the chance to fall down the rabbit hole in 3-D from the comfort of their own homes with their “Alice in Wonderland” Blu-ray 3-D release.
Apparently they were happy with the results – the studio announced in a press release today that they are readying at least 15 of their films for in-home viewing on Blu- ray 3-D in 2011.
The obvious titles are the Mouse House’s recent theatrical 3-D releases “Tangled” and “Tron: Legacy.” But what’s most interesting here is the inclusion of some of their 2-D animated classics that are getting their very first 3-D upgrade.
By the end of this year, we’ll get to revisit the Pride Lands and join Simba as he reclaims his rightful place in The Circle of Life, as well as witness Belle discover Something There That Wasn’t There Before with her Beast – all in glorious 1080p...

Aside from charging extra for their 3D theatrical releases, Disney has now announced they will be releasing an additional 15 titles on Blu-ray 3D for your 3D home viewing entertainment, bringing their total library to 20 so far. The company has been showing a short test of the 3D footage at various industry events, including last year’s ShoWest. Besides the new 3D format, each disc will include “thematically linked 3D menus, 3D previews of coming-attractions trailers and an introduction to the eye-popping world of Disney Blu-ray 3D.”

We've been hearing about Disney converting Beauty and the Beast into 3D for a couple years now. We've been expecting a theatrical release on Valentine’s Day 2010, that obviously never happened so it was pushed to sometime in 2011. Turns out the film is going to be released strait to 3D Blu-ray, instead of in theaters, which kind of sucks. I would have liked to see Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King in 3D, but it wont be on 3D Blu-ray because I don't buy into the whole 3D TV thing.
Here's the official Press release from Disney. Look it over and tell us what you think!

It has been over two years since [1] Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that they would be converting Beauty and the Beast into 3D for a Valentine's Day 2010 theatrical rerelease. Disney has been showing a short test of the 3D footage at various industry events, including last year's ShoWest. Unlike the live-action 3D post conversions, I was actually quite impressed with what Disney was able to achieve with the added dimensionality (read my previous report here [2]). I actually havent talked to one person that didn't like the 3d scene they screened. As Valentine's Day 2010 quickly approached, Disney pushed the release back [3] to a To Be Announced 2011 date. And it was later revealed that they were so happy with how Beauty 3D turned out, that they were also in the process of converting The Lion King to 3D as well [4]. Good news: Today we have finally been told when we can see...

2010 saw the birth of 3D TVs in the home market places, as evident with the handful of displays at retailers like Best Buy. The biggest early on stumble was the lack of titles. Now, there’s near 20 3D Blu-ray titles, like Alice in Wonderland (review here), and Disney has just released their 2011 3D Blu-ray plans.

I’ve had Friday, Nov. 5 circled, starred, and highlighted on my calendar for a while, PopWatchers (and not because it’s Guy Fawkes Night…). No, because Will Ferrell plays a deliciously evil supervillain in Megamind (along with Tina Fey, Brad Pitt, and Jonah Hill), which hits theaters tomorrow. And since Ferrell knows all-too-well how to transform himself into an evil villain (see: Zoolander’s Mugatu), there’s a pretty good chance he’ll be as, if not more, hilarious as an animated one, right? We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out, but could Megamind be the funniest...

It bodes well for Alice in Wonderland that Disney are now reportedly lining up another revisionist re-take on one of their cartoon classics for Tim Burton to direct. Maleficent will be a retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story that focuses on the Mistress of all Evil instead of that pretty somnambulist and her slightly creepy Prince Phillip. The studio registered the domain name maleficentmovie.com some time last summer, so I've been waiting for news a while. Of course, until now I wasn't entirely convinced it was going to be a live action picture - well, in so much as it will be live action, which I'm expecting will be probably to just the extent that Alice is - and not an animated spin-off, a la the Tinkerbell series or that Timon and Pumbaa picture. One question is where this leaves Burton's Dark Shadows, a film we had previously been...
