A former Walk Street broker moves in with his brother Simon in an apartment in Harlem. In the opening episode Simon gets a job at a television network.
After Simon complains about the pants he purchased at a clothing manufacturer an Irish immigrant worker (Carmen Thomas) is fired. When he learns she may be deported he marries her.
Duke Stone goes on vacation and leaves Simon in charge and Carl's girlfriend, Chrisitne Chazen (Maria Bello), then plans a corporate take-over of the company,
Carl cannot believe that Simon has been bowling buddies with his ex-wife Vicky. Worst, Simon brings her to work and everybody loves her. Worst still, she goes on a date with Mitch.
Duke sometimes gives away MSG tickets to the executives. Simon is next getting the tickets. It's the Lipizzaner Stallions and Simon is excited. Carl sells off the tickets to Bernice, a scalper (Pat Crawford Brown) but then needs them back.
VTV needs younger demographics. Simon suggests bringing back Tinky the clown (Dom DeLuise). Carl hates Tinky and Libby hates clowns in general. Simon finds Tinky repairing shoes and still holding a grudge against the kid who got him fired.
Simon does his animal calls and a dog comes. It answers to the name Carl. Duke's dog Duchess is depressed unless she's with dog Carl. Simon decides to marry Duchess and dog Carl to show human Carl real commitment.
