After a lakeside conversation (and an impromptu swim), Miaka learns Nuriko's true feelings, and later, Hotohori's. But what about Tamahome? He's still a mystery to her and it's driving her crazy.
The Celestial Warriors join Miaka on a trek to a mountain retreat to find Taiitsukun-an entity rumored to control the entire Universe, in the hope of helping her return to her own world.

After learning that Tasuki may be dead, Miaka searches for a healer rumored to bring the dead back to life. But when she herself falls victim to a brutal illness, Miaka must first die in order to be healed.
Hotohori brings Miaka's plight to doctor Juan Myō, where he learns the truth about Shoka. Later, after Miaka sprouts a sickness demon from her back, the sixth of the Suzaku Seven appears-and it's quite a surprise.
Miaka and Tamahome make a promise to reunite, but Yui still stands between them. Later, Nuriko gives her a special doll rumored to makes a couple's love eternal, but when it breaks, what does it mean?!!!

The ceremony to summon Suzaku begins with Miaka making her 3 wishes. When nothing appears, and Chiriko starts playing the flute-everyone falls to their knees in agony, and Nakago's plans to disrupt the ceremony become painfully clear.
Taiitsukun tells Miaka to let go of her love for Tamahome in order to summon Suzaku. Naturally, she's heartbroken. But when Tamahome proposes to Miaka, she seeks trusted advice from Chichiri...
