“The Crow” has finally returned from the dead — again.
The 2024 remake of the 1994 classic, which has been in the works for more than 15 years, follows Eric (now played by Bill Skarsgård) who, along with his girlfriend Shelly (FKA Twigs), are killed by thugs. But he’s given a reprieve – he comes back from the dead and is offered the chance to get retribution against his murderers. And while this film, like the earlier movie (perhaps remembered most for the tragic on-set death of star Brandon Lee), is based on the James O’Barr comic book, this is a very different movie.
How different?
Read on to find out the five biggest differences between the new movie and the 1994 film. But beware – consider this your major spoiler warning, for both movies, really.

1990 was a peak year for Van Damage. The Muscles from Brussels was on the way to the big time after Bloodsport and Kickboxer (which made our list of the Best Fighting Movies) proved to be huge moneymakers at the box office. But, Jean-Claude Van Damme was different from some of his contemporaries because he was a hearthrob and a prime butt-kicker. His 1990 movie Lionheart was bought for distribution by Universal, paving the way to his breaking into mainstream studio work. But, before he could jump on that gravy train, he had one more movie left to make on his Cannon movie deal – but ironically, the company itself would not release the film theatrically due to its waning fortunes, with this being Van Damme’s first major studio release after MGM opted to distribute it. The movie? Death Warrant!

Dream Theater have announced the return of founding drummer Mike Portnoy after a 13 year absence from the band. The legendary stickman is back in the veteran prog-metal act’s lineup, as his replacement Mike Mangini exits the group.
Portnoy, who formed the band under the name Majesty with guitarist John Petrucci and bassist John Myung in 1985, officially exited Dream Theater in September 2010. The drummer had begun working with Avenged Sevenfold around that time, filling the shoes of that band’s late drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. He ultimately didn’t get the full-time gig in Avenged Sevenfold, and ended up out of both bands. He soon lobbied for his job back in Dream Theater, but had been replaced by Mangini.
Recent events have suggested a reconnection between Portnoy and Dream Theater, including the drummer playing on Petrucci’s latest solo album, Terminal Velocity, as well as the pair hitting the road together for a 2022 tour.

Melvin Van Peebles, an icon of Black cinema who acted in and directed influential ’70s films like “Watermelon Man” and “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song,” died Tuesday at age 89.
His actor-director son Mario Van Peebles announced the news of his passing on Wednesday along with the Criterion Collection and Janus Films. No cause of death was given.
“In an unparalleled career distinguished by relentless innovation, boundless curiosity and spiritual empathy, Melvin Van Peebles made an indelible mark on the international cultural landscape through his films, novels, plays and music,” the statement read.
“Dad knew that Black images matter. If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is a movie worth? We want to be the success we see, thus we need to see ourselves being free,” Mario Van Peebles wrote in a statement. “True liberation did not mean imitating the colonizer’s mentality. It meant appreciating the power, beauty and interconnectivity of all people.

A narcotized neo-noir that unfolds with the diverting purposelessness of a forgettable dream, Meredith Danluck’s “State Like Sleep” doesn’t really go anywhere, but it lulls you into enough of a stupor to enjoy the time it takes to get there. Much of the credit for that belongs to “The Bling Ring” cinematographer Christopher Blauvelt, who coats the (supposedly) Belgian locations of this dead-end story with a shimmer that makes every beat feel a little more beguiling than it should. The rest might have to go to Katherine Waterston, whose “Alien: Covenant” bowl-cut gets the rousing curtain call it deserves (this film was shot back in the summer of 2016).
The basic details of the story are simple, though Danluck presents them in a pleasantly disorienting fashion. It starts with a Belgian movie star named Stefan Delvoe (“Game of Thrones” actor Michiel Huisman) giving a television interview to promote the...

Gerard Butler. Weather satellites. Reshoots. A camel. We take a look at Geostorm...
Your relationship with Geostorm may be best measured by where you stand on 1994’s Charlie Sheen skydiving movie, Terminal Velocity. Terminal Velocity, by many, was dismissed as a trashy, throwaway action movie. But I always thought it was an absolute hoot. It was never going to challenge the awards season, but as a piece of filmed entertainment, it’s become the kind of film that Hollywood’s all-but-forgotten how to make. The joyously daft action and/or effects movie that the 90s at one stage thrived on.
What a pleasure, then, to report that Geostorm captures that spirit. I'm not sure if that's by luck or design, either. Still, I happily confess it had me early on, with the idea that a raging weather movie was being crossed with a presidential assassination thriller. As it turns out...

There is a breed of gamer, they are getting on a bit now but they still remember the hell of PC gaming in the nineties. This was when numbers like 2086, 286, 386 and 486 actually meant something other than being bad lines in Hackers and multi-core computing was not something even considered in the home environment, never mind even the idea of 3D gaming (though it was coming). This was the time of Shareware, and most importantly for this review, the time that 3D Realms Anthology looks back at.
If like me you still remember downloading shareware games, just taking a look at the 3D Realms Anthology list on Steam will bring back some great memories. Even for the uninitiated the likes of Duke Nukem will be noticeable straight away, especially the inclusion of Duke Nukem 3D. I’m sure more than a few people also notice the Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project on the list too,...

2013 has been a great year for action. We’ve had multiple comic book heroes fighting it out on the big screen, with Thor and Iron Man continuing Marvel’s run of great movies, the return of the R-rated antics of Kick-Ass and at long last an F-bomb loaded, bloody incarnation of The Wolverine (though it’s worth pointing out that the unrated edition in the UK only comes with the 3D version of the home release, a trend I hope doesn’t continue).

This week is exactly the sort of round-up I would love to be writing every week in terms of the diversity and general quality. We have a lovely mix of the new, the old, the obscure and the cult which means there is something for everyone.
There are even some things this week that I did not have space and time to write about like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film from 1990 on Lovefilm which I have a fondness for that somehow hasn’t dimmed.
Netflix also has come out swinging grabbing the week’s award for most diverse line up of new content. Regardless of its actual quality, Seven Psychopaths is exactly the sort of exclusive that Netflix should be getting on a regular basis over Lovefilm and Now TV. If they can also start adding forgotten older titles weekly like Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and Cropsey as...

Here are 25 more great, unsung films - this time, from the year 1994...
Yes, 1994. The year cinemas were dominated by such whimsical wonders as The Lion King, Forrest Gump, The Mask and, erm, True Lies. It was also the year Gump dominated the Academy Awards, and Four Weddings And A Funeral loomed large at the Baftas.
As ever, there was so much more to the year's cinematic landscape than Tom Hanks' park bench ramblings or Hugh Grant mithering from beneath his gorgously crafted hair. To prove it, here's a list of 25 films that, in our estimation, are among its most underappreciated. There's much horror, drama, tears and laughter, plus a couple of classic documentaries, too.
25. Phantasm III: Lord Of The Dead
The Phantasm series was quite unusual, in that writer and director Don Coscarelli made all four of them. This means that,...

Us actor best known for his role as the mafia boss Tony Soprano
James Gandolfini, who has died aged 51 of a heart attack, was one of those rare actors who was able to portray a violent, bullying, murderous, vulgar, serial adulterer, while simultaneously eliciting sympathy and understanding from television audiences. In 86 episodes from 1999 to 2007, in HBO's hit series The Sopranos, the balding, beefy, middle-aged Gandolfini, as Tony Soprano, a New Jersey mafia boss, managed to transcend any stereotyping of Italian-Americans (although the charge was still made) by showing the flawed character's vulnerable side.
While Tony Soprano does embody the close-knit Italian-American community, with its codes of masculinity, Gandolfini, who had studied the Sanford Meisner method of acting for two years, lived up to Meisner's exhortation to "find in yourself those human things which are universal". Gandolfini always claimed to be nothing like Tony Soprano: "I'm really basically just like a 260-pound Woody Allen.

Actor James Gandolfini has died. The 51 year old veteran, who won both the Screen Actors Guild and Primetime Emmy Award three times for his portrayal of troubled New Jersey crime boss Tony Soprano in HBO's hit series The Sopranos (TV), reportedly suffered a heart attack while vacationing in Italy on Wednesday. Gandolfini appeared in dozens of other films such as True Romance (1993), Get Shorty (1995), Terminal Velocity (1994), The Juror (1996), and last year's Zero-Dark Thirty (2012), but it was his groundbreaking role as Tony Soprano that will remain his legacy. Entertainment Weekly cited him as the 42nd greatest TV icon of all time, and in 2005, TV Guide ranked him at #28 on it's "50 Sexiest Stars of All Time" list. Aside from acting, Gandolfini produced various films and documentaries, including Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq, in which he interviewed 10 injured Iraq war veterans in 2010 about the challenges they face integrating back into society and family life.

Some shocking and heartbreaking news at the end of the day today, as HBO have confirmed that three-time Emmy winner and three-time SAG winner James Gandolfini, best known for playing mobster Tony Soprano in the acclaimed series "The Sopranos," has passed away from a stroke at the age of 51. He's survived by his wife Deborah Lin and a teenage son from a previous marriage. Born in 1961 in Westwood, New Jersey to Italian parents, Gandolfini was a Rutgers grad who worked as a bartender, bouncer, and club manager before coming to acting through his friend Roger Bart. He made his screen debut in 1987's "Shock! Shock! Shock!" before small roles followed in Tony Scott's "The Last Boy Scout," Sidney Lumet's "A Stranger Among Us" and most memorably, Scott and Quentin Tarantino's "True Romance." Larger and larger parts followed, usually as tough guys in heavies, in major movies including "Terminal Velocity,...

New cars, challenges, and a whole airport section are available now for the Criterion-developed racer.
"Most Wanted" is adding three new Dlc packs--"Terminal Velocity," "Heroes," and "Movie Legends"--to the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions of the game. So if you wanted to drive Burt Reynolds' Trans Am from "Smokey & The Bandit," you're in luck with the "Movie Legends" Dlc, while the "Heroes" pack brings back some favorite cars from "Need for Speeds" past.
The biggest addition, though, is the "Terminal Velocity" Dlc, which drops the new location of Hughes International Airport into the fine city of Fairhaven. The new location includes more vehicles, as well as 136 new multiplayer milestones, 10 new multiplayer speedlists, 40 new billboards, and eight new achievements.

Some actors are best known for an iconic TV character they've played. But most of them have had at least one other notable role to be remembered by. Jackie Gleason isn't just Ralph Kramden, he's also Minnesota Flats and Buford T. Justice. Henry Winkler isn't just The Fonz, he's also Barry Zuckerkorn. (And, to acknowledge one who recently left us, Larry Hagman's legacy isn't just J.R. Ewing, its also Major Nelson.) But so far, no matter how many other gigs he's had before, during and since, James Gandolfini is pretty much just Tony Soprano. This isn't to say Gandolfini isn't a great actor. He's delivered many terrific performances in many films. But he isn't known for playing any other stand-out characters. Right now, Gandolfini occupies an interesting middle ground: He's not exactly a movie star, and he's not exactly a character actor. With his girth and his bald...

Here's a trailer that will literally kick your ass: Chuck Norris stars as Chuck Norris in Chuck Norris: The Movie. [Tdw] We love our buddy Dan Trachtenberg's Portal-related short, and here's another one, called POrtal: Terminal Velocity, which adds a found-footage style to the mix as one dude shows off his new POrtal gun to his buddies with mixed results. POrtal: Terminal Velocity from Jason Craft on Vimeo. Finally, we've seen countless shorts cracking jokes about Christian Bale's Batman voice, and so the guys from Bleeding Cool reinvent the idea with this amusing video. Here's an awesome fan-made POrtal short called Terminal Velocity. It plays with the idea of what it would be like to own a real POrtal gun. Basically we'd be messing around with it like little kids. The visual effects of the short turned out extremely well. There's not much story behind it, but the creator explains why...
My interpretation of what a real POrtal gun would be like if one existed. Based on the video game, POrtal. I tried to match the game as close as possible. This was the most challenging project I have ever undertaken, consisting of 3D tracking, seamless camera cuts and 3D camera projection. This started out as an experiment since I didn't think I could even pull it off, if I knew it would've turned out as good as it did I would've put more of a story behind it. O well, it makes up for in Visual Effects,...

Democracy is a flawed concept. Here are 50 films that the IMDb voters would unfairly have you believe are worth no more than 5.9/10…
Six out of ten isn’t a very good score, really. It’s barely over half marks. 60 per cent. It’s alright, but it’s not great. You wouldn’t be proud of getting six out of ten on most kinds of tests, would you? So you might assume that any film that scores under six stars out of ten on the IMDb isn’t very good – possibly even terrible.
But that’s not always the case. Averages don’t tell the whole story; anything that’s potentially controversial or divisive will end up with a score that suggests most people weren’t that bothered about it, since high and low scores will be averaged – and IMDb users often exaggerate their scores anyway, giving a film one star...

Jarvis Cocker has collaborated with Boys Noize and Erol Alkan on a reworking of Leonard Cohen's 'Avalanche'. The Pulp frontman voices Cohen's lyrics on 'Avalanche (Terminal Velocity)', the only feature of the original song that remains in the new version. 'Avalanche' first featured on Cohen's third album Songs of Love and Hate in 1971. It was later covered by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds for their 1984 debut From Her to Eternity. Sylvester Stallone has begun to round up the recruits for his Expendables sequel. Could Charlie Sheen be one of them?
With over $100m in the bank in the Us alone, and with the lucrative DVD and Blu-ray release on the way (as well as a director's cut for next year), it's fair to say that Sylvester Stallone has found himself a brand new franchise with The Expendables.
He's already hard at work on banging together a script for the sequel, and rumours already have suggested that Bruce Willis, for one, may enjoy a bigger role. And, even more promisingly, that it might all be about a shootout between Stallone's crew and Arnold Schwarzenegger's. That would be fun, but as you might expect, a lot of this is rumour at the moment.
And the latest rumour surrounding the production is that Stallone is putting together a role for Charlie Sheen...

The Event and The Clone Wars arrive on UK telly, Matt Smith turns up in The Sarah Jane Adventures, and there are some great films to look forward to as well...
We'll start the week with the least exciting bit and, hopefully, work up to more tantalising tidbits on telly as we go through the next seven days.
Despite the hype, the arrival of The Event tonight, Friday, October 22nd at 9:00pm on Channel 4 may be a non-you-know-what. The Us show's been accused of trading on the styles and tricks of popular predecessors in trying to fill the island-sized hole left by Lost. From reports and our own reviews, it's only so much blown sand and wind, but the curious may want to see how much of that is true and if it's the wreckage some deem it to be that's now washed up on our shores.

The fall of 1994 saw two skydiving action flicks go head-to-head. First up was Terminal Velocity, starring Charlie Sheen in the days of his last gasp grab for action-man status before descending into the shambolic self-parody where he became most famous for being 'Denise Richard's husband.' An absurdly overblown stunt reel of preposterously proposed high-altitude antics that saw our man Charles as the impossibly named Ditch Brodie engaging in fisticuffs with former Kgb nasty boys, in the back seat of a Cadillac, hurtling towards the Earth from 30,000 feet, Terminal Velocity was redundant, derivative, and simply dreadful.
Hot in it's heels a mere three months later was Drop Zone, which if nothing else effectively answers that question that occasionally pops up during a nostalgic cinema conversation - 'What ever happened to Wesley Snipes career?'. Answer: It tanked because he consistently made dreck like this - oh, and then didn't pay his taxes.

A&E is set to air for the first time one of Criss Angel's biggest stunts on his "Mindfreak" series. On Wednesday, August 12, the illusionist will attempt never-before-seen effects which will place his safety on jeopardy including traversing a field of live explosives.
"The Five Lives of Criss Angel" will air as a five-part television event beginning 10/9c. The first one is called "White Death" where Criss is to tackle the 'buried alive' stunt under freezing temperatures of snow and ice. The second one, which is called "Death Field" sees Criss' risking walking over live explosives that could cost him a life.
The other three are "Terminal Velocity", "Mass Levitation" and "Death Crash". In "Velocity", he will defy Newton's Law of Gravity by standing 250 feet above Las Vegas strip, dropping an object and being at the bottom in time to catch it. In "Levitation", Criss involves the audience, levitating...
