When Martin Landau was announced as the winner of Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Ed Wood, fellow nominee Samuel L Jackson can be visibly seen mouthing a word that normally wouldn’t get by on national television And he meant it! After all, winning an Academy Award is just about the highest honor an actor can receive. Being nominated? Who needs that?
With great vengeance and furious anger, Samuel L Jackson called out anyone who says that being nominated for an Oscar is an award in and of itself. “We’ve been in the business long enough to know that, you know, the folks who go, ‘Well, it’s just an honor to be nominated.’ No it ain’t – it’s an honor to win!” He added, “You know, you get nominated, folks go, ‘Yeah, yeah, I remember that. Most people forget, you know. Generally, it’s a contest you...

Samuel L. Jackson, the iconic actor known for his prolific career in Hollywood, has shared his candid perspective on awards season, calling out the oft-repeated notion that “it’s just an honor to be nominated.”
In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Jackson dismissed the sentiment, saying, “No it ain’t. It’s an honor to win.” The actor further elaborated on how easily Oscar-nominated performances—and even some winners—fade from public memory. “Generally it’s a contest you didn’t volunteer to be in,” Jackson quipped. “They nominate you, and people go, ‘What’s the name of that thing?’ After it’s over, people have a hard time remembering who even won.”
Jackson’s remarks add to his ongoing critique of the awards system, which he has addressed in past interviews. Despite a celebrated career spanning decades, Jackson has only been nominated for an Academy Award once...

Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson has disputed the entertainment industry’s traditional attitude toward award nominations, claiming that being acknowledged is less important than winning.
In an honest interview with the Associated Press, Jackson dismissed the typical phrase, “It’s an honor just to be nominated.” Instead, he emphasized that true recognition comes only through winning.
“We’ve been in the business long enough to understand when people say, ‘It’s just an honor to be nominated.'” No, it’s not. “It’s an honor to win,” Jackson stated, showing his forthright attitude toward business honors.
Regardless of his legendary status, Jackson’s Oscar history demonstrates his point. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his “Pulp Fiction” performance in 1994. He earned an honorary Academy Award in 2021, which he believed accurately represented his vast career.
The actor also mentioned how quickly the public forgets nominated performances. “You get nominated,...

Samuel L. Jackson feels it’s time to drop the facade when it comes to awards season.
“We’ve been in the business long enough to know that when folks go, ‘It’s just an honor to be nominated.’ No it ain’t,” Jackson said in a video from the Associated Press. “It’s an honor to win.”
Jackson went on to say that most people forget Oscar-nominated performances, and even some winners. “You get nominated and folks go, ‘Yeah I remember that.’ Or most people forget,” he said with a chuckle. “Generally it’s a contest you didn’t volunteer to be in. Samuel L Jackson said in a video interview with AP Entertainment, while promoting his role in Netflix’s “The Piano Lesson,” that Oscar nominations aren’t too big of a deal for him. Shockingly, Jackson has only earned one Oscar nomination during his illustrious career — for “Pulp Fiction,” which he landed a best supporting actor nod for in 1995. Jackson was awarded an honorary Academy Award in 2021.

Josh Brolin is detailing a very nepo Hollywood moment with iconic film stars.
Brolin, whose stepmother is Barbra Streisand after she wed his father and fellow actor James Brolin, recalled attending one of Streisand’s star-studded dinner parties. At one of these events, Marlon Brando was part of a Scientology exercise led by John Travolta, who offered to “heal” Brando‘s injured leg.
“It should have been a joke, but it turned out to be this amazing collective experience that I got to witness from afar,” Brolin told Variety. “At the time, I was like, ‘What the fuck is going on?’ Now I look back on it and go, ‘That was such a sweet moment.’”
He continued, “Scientology has nothing to do with it. I got to see somebody take care of somebody else in this thoughtful way. It’s funny how your perspective can change.”

Samuel L. Jackson is in negotiations to star in the next movie from director J.J. Abrams.
If the deal closes, he’ll join a cast that includes Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega and “Sex Education” star Emma Mackey. Abrams is writing and directing the untitled feature, of which details have been kept under wraps. Bad Robot, the company founded by Abrams, will serve as a producer.
Warner Bros. is backing the film, which is expected to commence production in the United Kingdom this spring. It’s unclear when the movie is slated to hit theaters.
This new project is Abrams’ first directorial effort since 2019’s “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker,” which culminated the nine-part saga to the tune of $1 billion at the global box office. Jackson, who portrayed Jedi Master Mace Windu in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, briefly worked with Abrams for a voice cameo for the climax of “Rise of Skywalker.

Samuel L. Jackson has been a part of the Marvel universe since his shocking 2008 after-credits scene in the first Iron Man film. After signing his deal with the studio, Jackson expected to be in it for the long haul. Only to find out that it wasn’t all that long after all.

It's safe to say that Quentin Tarantino is a pretty great, well-respected filmmaker — but which movie is his absolute best according to its Rotten Tomatoes score? That would be his 1994 masterpiece "Pulp Fiction," which earned a rating of 92% on the review aggregator.
This isn't totally surprising; "Pulp Fiction" might be Tarantino's best-known film, and it won him his first Academy Award. A non-linear jumble of interconnecting stories mostly anchored by hired assassins Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson), "Pulp Fiction" is at once breathtakingly brilliant and disgustingly crude and gory, showing off Tarantino's unique ability to marry bloodshed and impeccable dialogue to create movies that are completely and totally unique. It's followed closely on Tarantino's Rotten Tomatoes charts by 1992's "Reservoir Dogs," Tarantino's first-ever feature film — which earned 90% — and the second movie to win him a screenplay Oscar, the deliciously satisfying revisionist history "Inglourious Basterds,...

Quentin Tarantino famously does not lack for chutzpah. He's not shy about singing his praises, and wrote a whole book loaded with contrarian opinions in 2022's "Cinema Speculation." He doesn't mince words and brooks no trash talk, as evidenced by the time he went upside a rival producer's head in a chichi Los Angeles power lunch spot.
Has Tarantino earned the right to be so unvarnished? It's a free country, so he can say whatever he wants, but he's got a little more backing up his opinion than that. His writing-directing debut, "Reservoir Dogs," is easily one of the most shockingly assured first films ever made, while his second feature, "Pulp Fiction," laughed in the face of the sophomore slump by becoming one of the most influential films of all time. "Pulp Fiction" was so outlandishly great that people underestimated the cool mastery of his third film, "Jackie Brown." Since then,...

The Ocean’s franchise featured some iconic actors in the high-stakes heist series but there were some who rejected the roles. Fans might not know, but Johnny Depp and Mark Wahlberg were approached for the first film which they unfortunately turned down.
However, the most shocking revelation came when George Clooney confessed that Bruce Willis was offered his role in Ocean’s Eleven opposite Julia Roberts. The Die Hard actor later featured in a cameo for the second film but Clooney claimed Willis always regretted turning down the opportunity to play the iconic Danny Ocean.

Today the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has sent a letter to its membership clarifying recent staffing changes across their collections and preservation teams at the Academy archive, museum, and library. It was reported at the end of October that 16 staff members had been laid off as part of a broader restructuring designed to bring all collecting, restoration, and preservation efforts together under the newly created Academy Collection and Preservation Department. Among those let go were Mike Pogorzelski — director of the Academy Film Archive for the last 24 years — and many veteran Archive staff members Sean Savage, Lynne Kirste, Joe Lindner, Melissa Levesque, Mike Brostoff, and Ed Carter. Here’s why Pulp Fiction almost had another ending (Photo Credit – Amazon Prime Video)
Pulp Fiction almost closed out with a different vibe. Quentin Tarantino had a wild twist that would’ve thrown off the whole ending we know and love. Samuel L. Jackson dropped the bomb recently, spilling that Tarantino’s original plan was to make the last scene much bloodier. And honestly? That change would’ve killed the magic.
Here’s the deal: in the Pulp Fiction finale, we see Jackson’s Jules and John Travolta’s Vincent Vega taking a breather in a diner, ready to hand over Marcellus’ precious briefcase. Enter Pumpkin and Honey Bunny—two robbers who picked the wrong place to hit. Fresh off his epiphany to ditch the criminal life, Jules lets them walk. Comedian Tim Dillon, who has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role in “Joker: Folie à Deux” as an Arkham Asylum security guard, recently appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” and trashed Todd Phillips’ controversial “Joker” sequel as “the worst film that has ever been made.” The sequel earned mostly negative reviews and flopped at the box office with $58 million domestically and $204 million worldwide, a far cry from the 2019 original’s $1 billion gross.
“It’s the worst film ever made,” Dillon said. “I think what happened, after the first ‘Joker,’ there was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels. This was loved by the wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!’ All these think pieces. And then I think, ‘What if we went the other way,’ and now they have Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga tap dancing to a point where it’s insane.

Quentin Tarantino has been pretty vocal about his retirement plans. The director has been expected to retire after his tenth film, which he is currently working on. However, Ridley Scott had some choice words to say about the Inglorious Basterds director.

Quentin Tarantino’s last film was expected to be The Movie Critic, which was set to star Brad Pitt. However, the film seems to be in the process of being reworked, leaving fans wondering what the auteur’s alleged final offering is going to be. Ridley Scott, though, thinks that Scorsese might be on the wrong track with his trajectory.

A group of activists dedicated to preserving film history has launched a petition asking the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to rehire 16 individuals the Academy laid off from its film archive and library staff last week.
On October 30, AMPAS let go of 16 employees — roughly 2 percent of AMPAS’ overall staff — including 14 from the Academy Film Archive and Margaret Herrick Library, and the other two from the Academy Museum collection staff.
In a petition launched on Tuesday, November 5 on Change.org, a cohort called Missing Movies protested the Academy’s decision and wrote an open letter to AMPAS CEO Bill Kramer and its Board of Governors, saying the layoffs represent a “deep disregard for the vital work of the Academy Film Archive.”
“These senior staff members have deep institutional knowledge of the Archive’s history and goals; they built the organizational structures, collections, and community outreach that allowed it to grow and thrive,...

Odin’s Eye Entertainment has come on board as international sales agent to “Stealing Pulp Fiction,” an audacious heist comedy from director Danny Turkiewicz. The company will launch it to overseas buyers at the American Film Market that starts in Las Vegas this week.
It had its world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival on Oct. 19. And is set for a U.S. theatrical release in early 2025 through Giant Pictures.
The film follows a group of hopelessly ambitious misfits in their attempt to steal Quentin Tarantino’s personal 35mm print of his iconic film ‘Pulp Fiction.’ But what begins as a simple heist quickly spirals into a chaotic adventure filled with unexpected twists and comedic mishaps.
It stars Karan Soni (“Deadpool 2”), Jason Alexander, Cazzie David and Jon Rudnitsky (“Home Again”).

If anyone had to be labeled Hollywood’s golden boy in the late 70s, it was John Travolta. From early success on Welcome Back, Kotter to his star turns in Grease, Travolta’s charm, cool-collected persona, and chops in singing and dancing made him sparkle. As much as those roles played to his specific skill sets and advantages, they left him a bit typecast as the smooth-talking, dancing heartthrob – a niche he, or for that matter anyone, couldn’t keep playing forever.
It would be, perhaps, some soul-searching that would lead to a different alley in 1981. Blow Out, a gritty thriller by Brian De Palma had Travolta taking risks. Gone were the musical numbers and dance moves, replaced by an intense role as a sound engineer caught up in a murder. Travolta’s performance was strong – so strong that years later, Quentin Tarantino reached out to him with an offer...

So… Joker: Folie à Deux is pretty great, right? Well, the reviews are mixed with a majority of people claiming that it’s a sh*t movie. However, Quentin Tarantino and Hideo Kojima are just some of the cinephiles who are actually loving it!

Director Quentin Taratino walks the walk when it comes to originality: he's been doing it his way since the '90s, making lots of movies that have gone on to become modern classics, including Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and Inglourious Basterds. Like a lot of people, he's not enthusiastic about Hollywood's interest in remaking everything under the sun. But unlike a lot of people, he still isn't interested in those remakes even when they're great.
Take the example of Denis Villeneuve's two recent Dune movies, which adapt Frank Herbert's seminal 1965 sci-fi novel. Both movies received widespread critical acclaim. But as far as Tarantino is concerned, he watched David Lynch's 1986 Dune movie and doesn't need to revisit that story. “I saw [David Lynch’s] ‘Dune’ a couple of times. I don’t need to see that story again,” he said on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. “I don’t need to see spice worms.

Quentin Tarantino does not care about Lisan al Gaib.
More specifically, the Pulp Fiction filmmaker recently said he has no interest in watching fellow colleague Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adaptations, as he views them as symptomatic of Hollywood’s overreliance on remixing old IP (usually in a bid to mitigate risk and maximize profit).

The Oscar winner continued, listing other titles he has shrugged off because their material draws from trodden ground.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences laid off a major contingent of staff members in its archive and library on Wednesday, including Academy Film Archive director of 24 years Mike Pogorzelski. A source with knowledge of the changes says that several impacted employees had worked at the Academy for more than a decade. Across archive, library and museum collection, 16 employees were laid off.
The downsizing, announced on Wednesday by Academy CEO Bill Kramer in an internal statement obtained by Variety, comes amid an ongoing restructuring initiative at the organization. The cutbacks place the archive, the library and the collecting unit’s operations under a newly formed Academy Collection and Preservation department.
“As part of this work in building the new Academy Collection and Preservation department, some team members will be leaving the Academy this week,” Kramer wrote, adding the note that “less than 2% of our overall workforce” had been impacted.

It’s a question of priorities, and the 30 or so employees at the Academy Film Archive have been nervous for a while. They’ve seen where the energy is going ever since Bill Kramer moved over from the Academy Museum to run parent organization the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. Under his purview is the non-profit 501C3 Academy Foundation, which runs the Museum, the archive, and the Margaret Herrick Library.
Kramer has been restructuring the Academy for some time now. For example, he merged the communications and marketing teams for all the sections of the Academy, and October 30 saw the exit of sixteen employees, some 2 percent of 800 total. The goal for the new Academy Collection and Preservation Department is to align operations and avoid duplicating efforts. Fourteen cuts were on the Archive and Library side, two from the museum collection staff.
Experienced people with vast institutional knowledge are getting lost in these layoffs.

Uma Thurman, Phoebe Dynevor, and Anthony Hopkins have been tapped to lead the cast of the period drama film “The Housekeeper.” Directed by Richard Eyre, the movie tells a story of forbidden love set in 1930s England. From 2020 to 2022, Bruce Willis cranked out a huge number of movies, most of them low-budget sci-fi/action films that all went straight-to-video, and usually playing brief, supporting roles. The many films were, by and large, panned by critics and mocked by baffled fans, all of whom wondered by Willis didn't appear to have much on-camera dialogue, or why he wasn't the lead character. In three years, he appeared in 22 movies.
In March of 2022, it was announced that Willis had been diagnosed with aphasia, a brain condition that affected his ability to speak and comprehend language. Many of the above fans expressed their deepest apologies, and even the Razzies, in a rare show of good taste, retraced Willis' Worst Actor nominations. Willis retired from acting because of his condition. In February 2023, Willis, now 69, was also diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, and he remains in the care of his family.

Box office bashes are often cinematic events on their own. While audiences are much more conscious about where their films come from and where their loyalties lie, there were times when films from multiple A-list actors would battle it out at the box office.
Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump || Paramount Pictures
Tom Hanks, John Travolta, and Morgan Freeman are some of the best actors in the business, and each has delivered some of the greatest films to come out of the industry. While nowadays these actors have found themselves attached to franchises in a bid to stay relevant, there was a time when there was more for them to do with the films that they put out, which also butt heads at the box office.

When talking about Pulp Fiction 30 years later, Bruce Willis’ performance is not something that immediately comes up in discussions. Willis’s character Butch was one of the more conventional characters in the film, which was filled with image-breaking performances. However, Willis’ stardom gave a significant boost to the film at the time of its making.

Interestingly, Willis was not a name that Quentin Tarantino ever had in mind for the role. It was Harvey Keitel, who played the role of Winston Wolfe, who introduced the Die Hard actor to Tarantino. At the time, Willis was one of the only A-listers among the cast.

Well, the thing about Brad Pitt is that once he walks into a camera frame, it is almost impossible to not have one’s focus entirely locked onto his face, with a total disregard for the backdrop and rest of the players. With his effortless magnetism that seems to suction every light molecule toward his direction, Pitt has made a career that defies his superficial beauty and leans into his creative and artistic exploits.

David Fincher, being one of the oldest and long-time collaborators of Pitt knows all of this, having directed him in 3 movies since their Oscar-nominated 1995 film, Seven. However, it is neither Seven nor Fight Club (for which they reunited again in 1998) that Fincher considers Pitt’s ultimate cinematic pinnacle. That unique credit goes to another movie entirely.

Pulp Fiction is the rare film that’s simultaneously a cult classic, a commercial smash, and a critical darling, and this month marks 30 years since its release in theaters. It’s easy to take for granted how unlikely its success was — it’s not often that a hyper-violent, nonlinear indie movie wins the Palm d’Or and breaks $200 million at the box office.

Samuel L. Jackson Rose Become the Highest-Grossing Actor of All Time (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Boom! Samuel L. Jackson‘s snatched the highest-grossing actor’s title of all time! With $14.628B from 69 movies, he’s stacking cash like there’s no tomorrow. Most of his blockbuster bucks come from his role as Nick Fury in the MCU. Starting with a sly cameo in Iron Man (2008), he became the ultimate glue that holds the Avengers together. If glue could talk, it’d drop iconic lines like Jackson!
Nick Fury: The Man, The Myth, The Legend
But wait! Let’s not put Jackson in a box labeled “just superhero.” Oh no! This man’s got a filmography that reads like a love letter to cinema. It features classics like Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained. With 45 films grossing over $100M, he blew past legends like Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise. Talk about taking names and kicking ass!

Quentin Tarantino once said that good actors always rise to the occasion. His 1994 masterpiece Pulp Fiction gave a lot of would-be A-listers that platform to prove their worth to the world before the world knew them as Hollywood G.O.A.Ts. Now, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Christopher Walken, Uma Thurman, and Tim Roth walk in the hallowed halls beyond Sunset Boulevard.

Pulp Fiction proved so monumental to the reinvention of Hollywood genre movies after the ’60s that even the then-washed John Travolta found a renaissance within the unforgiving film industry. Tarantino quickly rose from the ranks of a novice video store clerk to one of the greatest directors of all time, with such independent attention to detail that even his crime films are reconciled in the public eye as art films.
