Ralph Macchio's controversial role was chosen by his manager to "promote his popularity".
The first film to be written and directed by Daniel Algrant, based on the autobiographical short film he wrote while a film student at Columbia. The executive producer of the film was one of his teachers at university - Martin Scorsese.
