Steven Seagal rose to fame in the '80s and '90s as a B-grade action movie star, starring in iconic films in the genre. While not all of Seagal's movies are classics, the best include Under Siege, Fire Down Below, and The Glimmer Man. Seagal's later career saw him take on roles in direct-to-video releases, but his movies still offered impressive fight scenes and thrilling action.
The '80s were known for the rise of the B-grade action movie to theatrical blockbuster status, and the best Steven Seagal movies are great examples of this trend. His skills as a master of aikido and his stoic demeanor made Seagal stand out in the action movie genre and he became one of its biggest stars for a time. Pop singer Lola Dee, who recorded for the Columbia and Mercury labels in the 1950s and toured around the world with the likes of Bob Hope, Jimmy Durante and Johnnie Ray, has died. She was 95.
Dee died Thursday of natural causes at a nursing facility in Hinsdale, Illinois, her publicist and CD producer, Alan Eichler, announced.
After signing a five-year contract with Chicago-based Mercury Records, a recently formed company that had Frankie Laine, Vic Damone and Patti Page on its roster, the singer, then billed as Lola Ameche, teamed with the Al Trace Orchestra for 1951’s “Pretty Eyed Baby,” which reached No. 21 on the Billboard charts.
She and Trace followed that year with another hit, “Hitsity Hotsity,” and she recorded more than two dozen songs over the next three years, including swinging versions of “Dance Me Loose,” “Old Man Mose,” “Down Yonder,” “Take Two to Tango” and “Don’t Let...

Let's go ahead and get this out of the way, "Yippee-ki-yay, mother f*****!"
"Die Hard" was kept on regular rotation in my childhood home. It was one of my dad's favorites, along with "Road House" and "Fire Down Below." To me, Bruce Willis has always been the kind of guy to blow up elevator shafts with C4 and a computer monitor or propel down a massive building with a fire hose around his waist, but that's far from the image he had in the early '80s.

Ed Bruce, a singer/songwriter and actor who had his own run of hits on the country charts but was best known for co-writing Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings’ “Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” has died at age 81. He died in Clarksville, Tenn. and the cause of death was given as natural causes.
Bruce was also recognized for playing the second lead to James Garner on NBC’s 1981-82 “Bret Maverick,” a one-season reboot of “Maverick,” as well as writing and singing the show’s theme song.
Of “Mammas,” one of the most iconic country hits of all time, Bruce said in a 2012 interview, “It was a top 15 record for me. And actually when I finished writing it, there was a question of whether I was gonna record it or whether I wanted pitch it to Waylon. There was no doubt in my mind it was a No.

Ed Bruce, the singer and songwriter who got his start during the Sun Records rockabilly era and went on to write or record a long string of country chart-makers, died of natural causes today in Clarksville, Tennessee. Bruce, who sidelined as an actor on such TV series as James Garner’s 1981 Maverick sequel and 1980’s The Chisholms, was 81.
His death was announced by publicist Jeremy Westby.
A cowriter of the country classic “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” Bruce was only 17 when he worked as a recording engineer for Sam Phillips’ Sun Records, where he’d soon writer and record “Rock Boppin’ Baby.” Through the mid-1960s he wrote songs for pop star Tommy Roe, country singer Charlie Louvin, and, later in the decade, charted himself with minor hits “Walker’s Woods” and a cover version of The Monkees’ “Last Train to Clarksville.”

Steven Seagal is the latest major Hollywood figure accused of sexual misconduct in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
The Under Siege star was recently accused of trying to proposition Inside Edition correspondent Lisa Guerrero back in 1996. In a new interview with Newsweek, the reporter said the actor asked to meet with her at his home to do a private audition for the movie Fire Down Below. Feeling uncomfortable, Guerrero told the outlet she went with a female representative from her casting firm. Guerrero claimed Seagal greeted them wearing only a silk robe.

Steven Seagal, a Silk Kimono and a "Private Rehearsal": One Actress Remembers Her Nightmare Audition
Emboldened by the avalanche of sexual assault accusations leveled against Harvey Weinstein over the past week, others have begun to come forward with their own experiences of harassment in Hollywood — and they are naming names.
Among them is Lisa Guerrero, 53, an Inside Edition correspondent who says, while pursuing an acting career in the mid 1990s, she was summoned to Steven Seagal's Beverly Hills mansion for an audition for the female lead in 1997's Fire Down Below, in which Seagal plays an Epa agent who investigates the dumping of toxic waste in a Kentucky mine.

Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch play two clashing highway road workers in Prince Avalanche, a goofy but rich comedy that adapts an obscure Icelandic film titled Either Way from 2011. Shot with a small crew and featuring a diabolical mustache from Paul Rudd, the film is written and directed by David Gordon Green.
Like a select few before him, Green is an intriguing creative force in Hollywood for his disinterest to stand still, and in the same place. He originally gained recognition by making indie film darlings like George Washington and All the Real Girls, but later challenged any type of genre categorization by following up the dark film Snow Angels with Pineapple Express. From there he went on to direct two raunchy comedies back to back, Your Highness and The Sitter, released in the same year. His latest, Prince Avalanche, continues his interest in comedy, but doesn’t feature the...

It's not very often that we here at NextMovie want to show you random videos of people joyously dancing in the streets of Chechnya — every two Thursdays or so, at a maximum — but sometimes you have to make exceptions.
Like, say, when Steven Seagal visits the embattled Russian territory for no reason and decides to become one of those people joyously dancing, making sure a camera is capturing his every cringe-worthy movement to eventually broadcast on the internet. That's an exception we'll make every day.
It's difficult to say that anything Steven Seagal has ever been in is a "must-watch," but I promise, this video comes as close as possible to that designation. It's going to make your day better, and that's really all you can ask.
Or, if "Steven Seagal embarrassing himself on camera" comes up short of your high standards for clicking on one-minute videos, can we perhaps...

Sheriff Joe Arpaio has a special weapon against school shootings: action movie star Steven Seagal.
The Associated Press reports that the Maricopa County Sheriff will host a training session for volunteers to help them learn how to handle school shootings.
The training will take place this Saturday in Forest Hills, Ariz. and Seagal will be one of the instructors leading the drills, according to the AP.
The Arizona Republic's Ej Montini is skeptical of Arpaio's motives and also notes that, since the sheriff's posse of volunteers are now on the job guarding schools, shouldn't they have already gotten training?
"It’s about publicity, as it always is when Arpaio is involved," Montini writes.
The Phoenix New Times hopes Seagal will break out some of the moves he implemented in 1997's "Fire Down Below."

Steven Seagal is a man of many talents: International movie star, TV action hero, part-time law enforcer and full-time ass kicker. He even sings the blues and made the ponytail look manly.
In his newest action flick "Maximum Conviction" – coming to DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 6th – Seagal teams with "Stone Cold"' Steve Austin to battle a team of elite mercenaries after the transportation of two inmates goes awry. The movie is vintage Seagal, complete epic gun fights, explosions, witty puns and all the bone-crunching Aikido one can handle in 90 minutes.
Taking a pause from breaking necks and limbs, Steven took the time to sit down with us and discuss upcoming projects, his thoughts on "The Expendables" franchise (hint: he doesn't love it) and the odds that we'll ever refer to him as President Seagal.

Chicago – Vern started his career as one of those snarky critics who wrote in to Harry Knowles’ landmark and influential movie website Ain’t It Cool News. He became a regular writer for the site and his work there turned him into a very unorthodox author. His first book was a fantastic examination of, believe it or not, the career of Steven Seagal. Newly updated with a dozen new chapters about the recent adventures of his subject matter (the first printing was in 2008), “Seagalogy: A Study of the Ass-Kicking Films of Steven Seagal” is a funny, clever read for fans of the unusual action star and those who have never seen one of his movies. Vern’s movie-loving, smart, enjoyable writing makes this a more entertaining experience than Seagal himself has ever produced.
Don’t worry. This is not tongue-in-cheek nonsense. To say that Vern takes his subject matter seriously would be a Massive understatement.

Marvel Comics' Namor: The First Mutant is to end this summer. In an interview with Cbr, writer Stuart Moore confirmed that the title will conclude in June with issue #11. "It's my sad duty to report that Namor: The First Mutant will end with issue #11, so we're not going to get around to Fantastic Four guest stars," he said. "I expect you'll see some of that, eventually, in Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting's terrific new Ff title." Moore went on to say that issues #9 to #11 of Namor will form a story arc called 'The Fire Down Below', which pulls together all of the series' plot threads. "I'm very pleased with (more)...

We take a look back at Leviathan, a sci-fi horror hotchpotch of Alien, The Thing and Jaws, in which Peter Weller takes on a vodka-fuelled fish monster…
As 80s B-movies go, Leviathan surely boasts one of the coolest casts of the decade. Even on paper, a film that stars RoboCop, Colonel Trautman out of the Rambo movies, one of the hapless villains out of Home Alone and its sequel, plus Ghostbusters’ Winston Zeddemore sounds great. As does its premise, which is essentially a schlocky rip-off of Alien and The Thing.
One of a flotilla of undersea sci-fi thrillers to drift out of Hollywood in the decade (see also James Cameron’s flashier The Abyss, Roger Corman’s Lord Of The Deep and Sean S Cunningham’s DeepStar Six, to name a few), Leviathan was the product of the late Florentine director George Pan Cosmatos, whose work also included train-based disaster flick The Cassandra Crossing,...

Thomas Armstrong (Boondock Saints’s Sean Patrick Flanery) is a cop that is forced to shoot his wife in order to save 10 people that are being held hostage by The Lion (The Matrix’s Joe Pantoliano). The ugliness of the moment cause Armstrong to quit the force and devote himself to booze. Eight years later The Lion reappears. The FBI wants Armstrong’s help in identifying him, but can he tangle with the diabolical madman who has promised to blow up the city?
Deadly Impact is an action rush with Pantoliano using the power of Bluetooth for evil. Here’s the trailer for the film:
The movie is out on DVD this week. I had a chance to swap email with Director Robert Kurtzman and Producer David S. Greathouse. The duo had previously made Buried Alive.

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
Attn: Justin Bieber -
This is a list dedicated to entertainers who tried to give us the best of both worlds, meaning acting And singing – and failed. Sometimes, devastatingly so.
It is not meant to indicate any pessimism for Miley Cyrus or her new film The Last Song, as she is just beginning to start her venture into “real” acting (and The Hannah Montana Movie had worse acting, and not from her, anyway.)
Read Jeff Bayer’s Tsr of ‘The Last Song’
Of course, the legacy of the singer turned actor has had some great moments, like Ice Cube in Boyz N the Hood and Mandy Moore in Saved! Mariah Carey even saved herself from this list with her performance in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.
This list features moments that you may have missed from your favorite entertainers,...
