Danielle Harris was quite nervous about shooting the table-dance scene (which actually doesn't appear in most TV versions), so she asked if she could choose the people who are sitting at the table. She picked the boys who would be most uncomfortable watching her as to make herself more comfortable while performing.
Danielle Harris, who plays little sister Hayley, is actually a year older than Katherine Heigl, who plays older sister Alexia, but ten inches shorter than Heigl which helps to create the illusion that Harris is younger than her.
Danielle Harris said in a 2017 interview that this is one of her favorite roles because it's one of the only comedic roles she ever did. She still watches it whenever it comes on.
The basketball team in the movie is the Hunter High Vikings. The real life Utah high school team is the Hunter High Wolverines. "Wolverines" appears on the scoreboard and a banner with the image of a wolverine can be seen on the wall as the viking-boat parade float enters the gymnasium bearing the winter festival queen contestants.
