'Mnaga - Happyend' is a crazy pseudo-documentary about Mnaga&Zdorp, a real (and much loved) Czech pop-rock group. It depicts their fictitious history of being created artificially, on demand of the musical market.
The puzzled members of the newly created group (some of the newborn stars having as bizarre previous jobs as a cattle-feeder) are at first only puppets in the hands of scheming record-company bosses. Although used as mere tools for earning money, gradually they come to enjoy themselves and even begin to write songs on their own. As the group strives to get their musical destiny under their control they have to face the bitter truth: They are wanted only as long as they serve without talking back.
The film is a funny insight into the machinery of music industry, spiced with allusions to real people and real events.
------- Trivia: The sequence with the contest where rock stars-to-be were sorted out amongst tens of sometimes hideously singing adepts is a delightful tribute to 'Konkurs', one of the early works of the acclaimed and Oscar-awarded director Milos Forman.
