As much as his costars Lindsay Lohan and Lisa Ann Walter have voiced enthusiasm for a sequel to 1998’s “The Parent Trap,” Dennis Quaid isn’t sure it’s something he’d want to do following the death of Natasha Richardson. When asked if he would work with Lohan again, Quaid told “Entertainment Tonight,” “I would.”
“I’d love it,” Quaid continued, but added, “You know, I don’t know if we could do ‘Parent Trap 2.’ Because who wants to touch that? Natasha’s not here.”
Natasha Richardson, who starred in “The Parent Trap” as Lohan’s mother and Quaid’s ex-wife Elizabeth, and whom the twins played by Lohan look to reunite with their dad, died in 2009 following a ski accident.
Quaid’s comments came as part of a career retrospective with “Entertainment Tonight,” in which Quaid looked back at interviews he’d done with the entertainment program throughout his career,...

Near the beginning of Irvin Kershner's 1980 sci-fi flick "The Empire Strikes Back," the psychic rebel warrior Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is riding alone through the snowy drifts of the distant planet Hoth, mounted on the back of a bipedal beast of burden called a tauntaun. He is on the lookout for any sign of the Empire, hunting the rebels after the destruction of their superweapon, the Death Star. Rather suddenly, Luke is attacked by a wampa, a humanoid yeti native to the planet. The wampa kills the tauntaun, claws Luke, and drags the hapless rebel back to its lair, presumably to be eaten.
The wampa is only seen in flashes. Luke sees a roaring face for a split second and a waving claw. For the 1997 Special Edition of "The Empire Strikes Back" — a notorious re-release that remastered and reworked most of the effects shots — a full-bodied shot of the wampa was included.

The Long Game released April 12, 2024.
Dennis Quaid is a man I grew up with. As a child I watched his films on repeat with a select few being near weekly viewings. In a way, he was my unconventional babysitter. Through Jaws 3D, Inner Space, Enemy Mine and Dragonheart I was whisked away to magical lands and instilled with a lifelong fear of sharks that haunts me to this day. So, when I was given the opportunity to speak with him about the positively charming The Long Game, I jumped at the chance.
Based on the novel Mustang Miracle, the film tells the true story of the San Filipe Mustangs. They were a group of Mexican-American teenagers in the 1950’s who stood up to racism through their love for the sport of Golf. Dennis Quaid plays the team’s coach, Frank Mitchell. You can check out my review of the film here.

There is no such thing as a bad year for movies. And 2024 is already shaping up to be no exception.
As we write this intro, it's still fairly early in the year, but we've already seen plenty of terrific films. Some of them are currently in theaters. Some of them are streaming or available for rental. A few of them have played film festivals and will find their way into some kind of release this year. But all of the entries on this list of the best movies of 2024 so far have one thing in common: they're worth your time.
Comedies, science fiction epics, documentaries, action films, romances, animation -- this list already has it all, and we're just getting started. Let's dive in..

In our age of sprawling, ostentatious multi-film sagas about threats to imperial rule, Damsel’s mere existence as a completely standalone fantasy film almost feels like a blessing. Even better, the film is a welcome twist on the traditional princess narrative simply for giving its protagonist her agency without saddling her with too many archetypes.
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s film, written by Dan Mazeau, still treads through familiar fantasy terrain for its first 20 minutes, during which we meet Elodie (Millie Bobby Brown), a peasant girl whose father (Ray Winstone) and stepmother (Angela Bassett) have accepted an offer from a neighboring kingdom to marry her off to a handsome prince (Nick Robinson) in exchange for riches. The marriage goes off without a hitch. Elodie even has chemistry with the prince. But then the other shoe drops, and it becomes clear that the match is part of a grim ritual that’s...

Let’s be honest, what’s your all-time favorite dragon movie? Is it Dragonslayer? Dragonheart? Q: The Winged Serpent? Maybe it’s an animated feature like How to Train Your Dragon or Raya and the Last Dragon? No matter what your answer is, the unpopular opinion remains, Rob Bowman’s 2002 popcorn flick Reign of Fire is one of the most underrated movies featuring the mythic fire-breathing beasts. Never mind the fact that the flick boasts a lowly 39 Metascore and 42% Rotten Tomatoes score, the grim dystopian world-building, excellent visual effects, and big-d*ck swinging performances from Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale remain a ton of fun to behold. Of course, Reign of Fire had the misfortune of running into the far more potent cinematic behemoth, Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which largely overshadowed the movie’s mild commercial success and eventually relegated the film into obscurity at worst,...

You'll have to get your scrolling finger ready to review the illustrious career of visual effects maestro Phil Tippett. From the gnarly (and LSD-tinged) conjuring of the Rancor in the far, far away galaxy of "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi" (for which he would earn a Best Visual Effects Oscar) to his contributions to the ever-popular fantasy "Willow" under the umbrella of the Industrial Light & Magic (Ilm) team, the award-winning designer and stop-motion artist is responsible for some of cinema's most breathtaking sights.
This year sees the 25th anniversary of "Starship Troopers," a satirical joyride erected on malicious compliance with its source material and buttressed with spectacular creatures crafted under Tippett's care. By the time he came onto the project, Tippet was still moving on the momentum of his VFX creature showcase (credited as "Dinosaur Supervisor") alongside effects titan Stan Winston in Steven Spielberg's 1993 adventure excursion "Jurassic Park.

Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.

New Delhi, Oct 31 (Ians) For a man who redefined the spy as a playboy and an action star with his James Bond roles, Sean Connery had once surprised the world declaring he was no great fan of the British superspy.
"I've only read two Bond books, I found Ian Fleming himself much more interesting than his writing," Connery had stated, in an article that The Guardian ran in December 1971.
That was the era when Connery ruled the mindset of Hollywood fans the world over with his back-to-back hits as Agent 007. It was almost a decade since his first bow, "Dr No", created global impact upon release in 1962. By December 1971 Connery had already starred in four other Bond blockbusters that continue to define the original essence of Bond -- "From Russia With Love" (1963), "Goldfinger" (1964), "Thunderball" (1965), and "You Only Live Twice" (1967). Noooooooo not another!! The one-and-only Sean Connery has died at age 90. His family reports that he has been "unwell for some time" (via BBC), and passed away in the Bahamas with much of his family with him. The original James Bond! Indiana Jones' dad! And so many other iconic roles in so many outstanding movies - including The Man Who Would Be King, The Great Train Robbery, Murder on the Orient Express, Zardoz, Time Bandits, The Hunt for Red October, Medicine Man, The Rock, Dragonheart, Entrapment, and Finding Forrester. Connery only won one Academy Award in his lifetime - for Best Supporting Actor in The Untouchables (in 1987) but that's it. He also won one BAFTA Award for Best Actor in The Name of the Rose (in 1986). He proved himself over and over in different roles, and almost always charmed everyone. Romanian lawmakers voted Wednesday night to revise the country’s 35-45% cash rebate, topping up the €50 million ($59 million) annual fund to finance the cashback scheme through 2023 and breathing fresh life into the local film industry.
The move ended an anxious period of speculation for the Romanian biz, which saw months-long delays in applications for the rebate after a bureaucratic reshuffle following a change in government last winter. The coronavirus pandemic also put film industry legislation on hold earlier this year.
“This is definitely a good thing for the entire industry,” said Bogdan Moncea, of Castel Film Studios in Bucharest, which serviced the fifth installment in Universal’s “Dragonheart” fantasy franchise. “Castel Film is in the process of negotiating two feature films for the end of the year which are relying on the rebate to be economically feasible. So it would be a positive impact for our business.”

So it would be a positive impact for our business.”

Things have been pretty quiet on the movie front for a while, given the pandemic, but this weekend marks a major upswing in content for cinema lovers, with multiple brand new releases available. Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island is unfortunately not up for streaming at present, but Netflix Original Da 5 Bloods, the latest effort from the Oscar-winning Spike Lee, is. For family audiences, there’s also Artemis Fowl over on Disney Plus, which was originally set for a theatrical release back in May.
Even outside of these new films though, there’s plenty of fresh titles coming to the various streaming services this weekend, from classic movies, recent hits, new TV series, old TV series, etc. Whatever combination of services you’re subscribed to, you can fill your whole weekend watching what’s coming to Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, HBO Max and the rest over the next few days.

Jason Momoa and Peter Dinklage never got the opportunity to share the screen on Game of Thrones, something that would have delighted fans to no end, but this might be the next best thing. From opposite sides of the fence, with Momoa playing DC’s Aquaman (for now) and Dinklage showing up in Infinity War, the two are coming together for the first time in upcoming action-horror flick Good Bad & Undead.
Vampire movies just never seem to die, though the plot of this one does seem to be a fresh take on a tired pop culture icon. Momoa will be playing a vampire and Dinklage will take on the role of legendary vampire hunter Van Helsing. Except, the synopsis reveals that there’s a twist: the two work together to scam villages.

Peter Dinklage and Jason Momoa never shared the screen on “Game of Thrones,” but the two will star together in Legendary’s upcoming dark fantasy film “Good Bad & Undead,” individuals with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
The film will be directed by Max Barbakow in his follow-up to “Palm Springs,” a film that set a new Sundance bidding record in January when it was purchased for $22 million and 69 cents. “Good Bad & Undead” stars Dinklage as famed vampire hunter Van Helsing as he forms an unlikely partnership with a vampire played by Momoa who has vowed to never kill again. In a con job reminiscent of “Dragonheart,” the two travel from town to town staging vampire attacks and splitting the riches when Helsing is hired to “slay” the vampire. It works well…until the vampire draws a massive bounty that sends countless hunters after both men. The film is based...

There are a lot of popular streaming platforms to choose from, but Hulu has always stood alongside Netflix as one of the two essentials for households looking for diversity in content. In the past, they’ve been known for focusing more heavily on newer television content, while Netflix has always offered a larger selection of sought-after films. But now, it looks like Hulu’s June lineup is only going to continue the service’s recent trend of providing high quality movies to bring itself in line with their competitor.

June 2020 is set to be a big month for the whole streaming Disney family. Not only will ESPN+ have the entirety of The Last Dance on its servers for late-adopting sports fans to catch up with, but Disney+ will be premiering its long-awaited Artemis Fowl film. Over on its biggest streaming service in Hulu, however, Disney is taking things a bit more slowly.
This month finds only three major original releases for Hulu. Animated medieval comedy Crossing Swords premieres on June 12, then Ya love story Love Victor and cooking show Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi both arrive on June 19. All in all, that’s not a bad haul for originals for the typically slow summer months.
June 1 sees a pretty impressive crop of movies coming to Hulu’s library as well. October Sky, The X-Files (1998), and Casino will all be ready to stream at the beginning of the month.

New year, and a host of new Netflix additions to match.
While subscribers are currently mourning the loss of Friends – after going dark today, January 1st, the beloved sitcom won’t be available until HBO Max arrives in May – Netflix has today rolled out a bevy of fresh TV shows and movies to keep us entertained, including some truly unmissable horror properties.
From Event Horizon to Cloverfield, The Amityville Horror to the Tremors franchise, Netflix’s horror category has officially been restocked. There’s plenty to choose from, too, including the 2002 rendition of The Ring, which only makes us long for a competent retelling of the Japanese horror legend to right the wrongs of Rings (2017). At least we have the upcoming Grudge reboot to look forward to on Friday (or January 24th if you happen to be located in the United Kingdom).

Another month, another smattering of new Netflix titles to sift through. And it seems the online streamer is kicking off 2020 with a host of juicy horror movies and TV shows.
First thing’s first: there’s a number of big-name titles leaving the service next month, including Panic Room, Grease, American Pyscho, and the Spartacus series. We look at how Dragonslayer by Duncan M Hamilton fits into the long-running fantasy subgenre involving dragons.
When Guillot is tasked with slaying the last of the dragons in Duncan M. Hamilton's Dragonslayer, the first in a planned fantasy trilogy, the character is way past his prime. All bets should be on the dragon, but a semblance of that knightly duty remains—even though Guillot struggles with alcoholism and is actively thwarted by someone high in power, there's tension in the narrative. Could Guillot actually win?

Cluj, Romania–A year after introducing a cash rebate of up to 45% to keep pace with neighboring countries in an increasingly competitive region, Romania is seeing signs that the incentive scheme is paying off.
“This year seems to be quite busy—much busier, I would say, than last year,” says Bogdan Moncea, of Castel Film Studios in Bucharest, which recently serviced the fifth installment in Universal’s “Dragonheart” fantasy franchise. “Romania was fairly competitive even before, but many producers would go to a country that had a rebate, even if the cost of doing business in Romania was very competitive.”
He adds: “Now it’s become a lot more attractive in terms of production costs and efficiency. Significantly better than Hungary, significantly better than Czech Republic.”

Ah, the 1980s, when big concepts ruled the box office! Patently ridiculous (often), The Hurricane Heist is riotously entertaining (always). The title itself fits neatly into the 'big-concept' ideal that became popular during the 1980s and continued into the 1990s: it's Die Hard in a storm! It's Twister with a criminal twist! It's Cliffhanger in the American South! Yet it's also a film directed by Rob Cohen, who has been making big-concept ideas into blockbusters (and would-be blockbusters) for 30 years, with titles like DragonHeart, Daylight and The Fast and the Furious to his credit. Or blame, I suppose, if you are not a fan of films that aim for the widest possible audience and are obsessed with the dynamic symphony of crash-bang action sequences....

Welcome to the “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide-release movies. Black Panther continued its box-office dominance as it passed the $500 million mark domestically this past weekend. This week, Disney looks to keep up its winning ways with not only Black Panther, but with A Wrinkle in Time as well. The Mouse House will have a lot of competition as three other wide releases also open in the form of The Hurricane Heist, The Strangers: Prey at Night, and Gringo. There are a lot of options, but which are worth a trip to the cineplex?
A Wrinkle in Time
What we are excited about: Ava DuVernay is one of the more intriguing directors working right now with her last two movies, Selma (2014) and 13th (2016), receiving a lot of awards attention. She always brings a strong style and unique flair to each of her projects, so...

He helmed the very first Fast and Furious film back in 2001, and now Rob Cohen wants to return to the franchise to direct the final Fast and Furious film when the time comes.
In an interview with ScreenCrush, Cohen made that revelation: “I always wished Universal would come back to me to direct the last one.” But as of now, there is no end game in sight for Universal's billion-dollar franchise. And even if the current Furious cast wants to call it quits, there is no doubt Universal will find ways to keep the brand alive. There is, after all, an upcoming Fast and Furious spin-off currently in the works starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
Cohen also had some thoughts on the series in general, saying:
“The franchise went from a Los Angeles story built around a family of multicultural brothers and sisters to what I’ll call “pure spectacle.

I confess that the first two parts of Phil Tippett's Mad God completely passed me by, but now that a kind reader has tipped us off to the existence of Part 3, all I can say is ... wow! Tippett has enjoyed a long career as a visual artist, receiving Academy Award nominations for Dragonslayer, Return of the Jedi, Willow, Jurassic Park, Dragonheart, and Starship Troopers, and taking the Oscar home three times. Of course, that's only the tip of the iceberg; his credits include all three original RoboCop movies, House II: The Second Story, and "demon supervisor" on The Golden Child. Tippett has been increasingly focusing his efforts on Mad God, an epic stop-motion animation project that looks absolutely fantastic, judging by the video...

Most movies have a long journey to movie theaters, but “5-25-77” has a longer one than most. As the title might suggest, it’s a coming-of-age picture about the release of the original “Star Wars,” based in part on the experiences of writer-director Patrick Read Johnson, who was one of the first people outside the creators to see “Star Wars,” before going on to write or direct movies including “Dragonheart,” “Baby’s Day Out” and “Angus.”
Johnson began developing the project in 1999 after teaming up with original “Star Wars” producer Gary Kurtz, and began shooting the low-budget project, about an aspiring filmmaker in the run up to the release of George Lucas’ film, in 2004, with production continuing on-and-off until 2006 (though pick-ups have been done more recently too).

Universal Pictures has released the trailer for Dragonheart: Battle for the Heartfire, which is the fourth film in the Dragonheart fantasy film franchise. In this film, Patrick Stewart provides the voice of the dragon Drago. This is a role that Sean Connery played in the 1996 film and Ben Kingsley played in the third film in 2015. Here's the synopsis"
In Dragonheart: Battle for the Heartfire, Patrick Stewart voices Drago, the magnificent dragon who became bonded with King Gareth. When the king dies, his potential heirs, twin grandchildren who possess the dragon’s unique strengths, use their inherited powers against each other to vie for the throne. When Drago’s source of power – known as the Heartfire – is stolen, more than the throne is at stake; the siblings must end their rivalry with swords and sorcery or the kingdom may fall.

It's been twenty years since that unfortunate cow was caught up in that tornado in Twister, and now Rob Cohen — the guy who brought you Dragonheart, The Fast and The Furious, and xXx — is combining the disaster genre with a heist film for a new film called Category 5.
Toby Kebbell has come on board as one of the film's stars, and you can read the official synopsis below:
A team of young tech hackers infiltrate a U.S. Mint facility to steal $200M in cash, just as a disastrous Category 5 hurricane – the worst storm ever recorded in the U.S. – is about to strike and level the town to the ground. The only other two people left, Will, a meteorologist, and Casey, a treasury agent, must survive the horrific storm, save Will’s brother Breeze and stop the thieves from getting away with the heist of the century.

A movie theme so iconic and over-the-top inspirational, Randy Edelman's theme to the 1996 film Dragonheart has appeared in numerous forms of media including trailers--real and fake, for other films. Taking a very large scene in scale and scope from Game of Thrones' Season 5, Episode 9, we gave over-dubbing a little music from the similarly themed movie starring CGI and the voice of Sean Connery a try. Boy, did it work. 1. Spoilers, duh. 2. Both the scene and the score are untouched once they "fade-in." ...
