In the allure of superpowers, the cost they entail is often forgotten, especially how maintaining a secret identity can take a toll on the lives of people who are burdened with said power, and of those close to them. Putting Luthor’s quest for vengeance in the backseat, this week Superman and Lois focuses on a less discussed side of the Man of Steel—the necessity of his secret identity and how efforts to maintain it have affected Clark throughout his life. As shown previously in the season, a significant number of people in Smallville are already aware of Clark’s true identity, and in the seventh episode, “A Regular Guy,” things take a dramatic turn, which prompts Clark to take the most crucial decision of his life. To add to the excitement of fans, the episode also introduces the series’ version of Jimmy Olsen, Clark/Superman’s best buddy,...

Erich Anderson, a prolific television actor perhaps best known for his portrayal on Felicity as the title character’s father, died of cancer June 1 in Los Angeles. He was 67.
His death was announced on social media by wife and actor Saxon Trainor.
Launching his film career in 1984 with a role in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Anderson was also featured at the same time in the TV series Bay City Blues. TV guest appearances kept him busy for the next years, with roles on The Paper Chase, Tour of Duty, and Quantum Leap, among others.
In 1990 he landed a recurring role that would become one of his most recognizable: On seven episodes of thirtysomething, he played Billy Sidel, a romantic partner for Polly Draper’s Ellyn Warren. After a sometimes rocky path, the two characters were married late in the series.

In the fifth season of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," the showrunners introduced a new regular character named Ensign Ro Laren. Ro (an excellent Michelle Forbes) was a Bajoran, a species whose planet has been militarily occupied by the wicked Cardassians for generations. Bajorans had long since turned to rebellious terrorism to fight back. Since neither world was a member of the Federation, no Starfleet vessels interfered. When the Enterprise was assigned to find a Bajoran terrorist named Orta (Jeffrey Hayegna), Ensign Ro was assigned to assist.
Immediately, Ro was a fascinating character. She belonged to Starfleet but hated authority, often defying Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and expressing open annoyance with his orders. She possessed a great deal of agency, upsetting the traditional Starfleet chain of command. She also was, it is eventually revealed, on a secret mission from an admiral above Picard's head.

Now, as foreign troops and media withdraw, Afghanistan is left to stand on its own and so are its journalists. Set in a modern Afghanistan bursting with color and character, Frame By Frame follows four Afghan photojournalists navigating a dangerous media landscape as they reframe Afghanistan for the world, and for themselves. Through cinema vérité, powerful photojournalism, and never-before-seen footage shot in secret during the Taliban regime, the film connects an audience with four humans in the pursuit of the truth. The basic appeal of the photographs in Karina Longworth’s new Hollywood Frame by Frame: The Unseen Silver Screen in Contact Sheets, 1951–1997 (Princeton Architectural Press) is easy to grasp. Any peek behind (as Joni Mitchell put it) the star-maker machinery is fun, doubly so when it’s a glimpse at a long-gone movie icon like Audrey Hepburn or James Dean. Immaculate costume and pose mix nicely with the visual clutter of a film set, and who doesn’t like seeing that? Contact sheets, though, add another layer of interest. Not only do we see the movie being made; we see the photographer at work, too. If he or she’s been shooting fast, the repetitions almost constitute a stop-motion echo of the movie itself—kind of a rough draft, or even a proto-gif. You can see, and almost hear, the ratchet-click of the hand and eye at work, shooting and winding,...

Cassadee Pope became the first true success for “The Voice” when the Season Three winner broke through with her single, “Wasting All These Tears,” last year and her album, “Frame by Frame,” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. Now with the gauzy video for new single, “I Wish I Could Break Your Heart,” she embraces the cliches that many burgeoning artists succumb to to get ahead. The clip is what we call a positioning video. It’s meant for us to learn more about Pope rather than to entertain us with any plot line. Here are the four take aways we should absorb from “I Wish I Could Break Your Heart”: A) See that Pope is sexy, but not slutty (you have to walk a thin line in country music) B) Imprint in our brains what she looks like since she is in almost every...

While Justin Bieber fans are awaiting the June 19 release of Believe, perhaps they can slake their fever by snatching up some tickets to the singer's upcoming North American tour. Bieber will hit the road for a headlining tour in support of his fourth album on September 29 with a show in Glendale, Arizona, with fans who purchase tickets to the shows getting a chance to pre-order the disc. The "Believe" outing will hit 45 cities before wrapping up in Miami on January 26, 2013, with protégé Carly Rae Jepsen on board as the opening act for the entire run.
"There's a lot of fun stuff," Bieber promised earlier this week about what fans can expect to see on the tour. "I've been really hard at work in the studio, in the dance studio, just...

Justin Bieber is four weeks away from dropping Believe, and from the looks of it, there's going to be some major collaborations on there. The teen star released the album's track list over the weekend, and he's managed to get some of the biggest names in hip-hop to guest on it.
While he had hit the studio with Kanye West, Yeezy didn't make the final cut, but Ludacris, Big Sean, Nicki Minaj and Drake did. His mentor, Usher, will serve as the executive producer on the album, according to Capital FM.
All those duets are intriguing, but fans might be most excited to hear what Bieber and Drizzy are up to on the track "Right Here." "He's a great guy and super-talented,...

Diggy's "Two Up" party isn't over. On Friday, Young Mr. Simmons celebrated the premiere of his "Two Up" video with MTV's RapFix blog, and the teenage Mc was so excited that he sat with MTV News and broke down each scene in the Clifton Bell-directed clip.
The vid begins with Diggy standing alone, playing air piano in time with the track's opening keys. The action may seem insignificant, but it's actually a key component to the song. "That was what really drew me to the track when I first heard the beat," he said. "It was just those piano keys that I love."

Justin Bieber has dropped his ode to his mama, Pattie Mallette, just in time for Mother's Day. The song, a guitar-driven ballad titled "Turn to You," breaks down the pair's life together, and their early struggles as Mallette worked to raise a baby Bieber as a teenager.
Over jangly guitars, Bieber recalls, "You worked two jobs to keep a roof up over our heads/ You chose life for me, no you never gave up/ I admire you for the strength you instilled in me/ You were so young, you were just my age when you had me/ Mom, you were so brave, there was nothing that would stop or get in our way/ And I know you will always be there for me."

Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" got the remix treatment from rap duo the Ying Yang Twins this week. The twosome dropped their take on the singer's single late Wednesday, amping up the song's sexiness with their signature sense of innuendo.
Playing on the song's title, the Twins (D-Roc and Kaine) note on their verses that while Bieber is offering up his services as your boyfriend, they're a little older and a little wiser and want to be your older sister's man. When MTV News spoke to D-Roc on Thursday (May 10), he talked a little bit about wanting to have fun with the Mike Posner/ Mason Levy-produced track.
"He want to be your boyfriend, but I want to be your man. I'm grown.

When most kids are getting ready to graduate from high school, the biggest worry on their mind is what college they're going to go to or finding a job. Justin Bieber, of course, is not the average high schooler.
And yet, in between releasing multi-platinum albums, touring the globe, renting out the Staples Center for dates with his sweetie and hanging out in the studio with Kanye West , Bieber has also managed to stay on top of his studies.
"I just finished high school," Bieber recently told England's Daily Telegraph. "I passed my test — I'm free! It was hard doing school and work every day."
Amid all the globe-trotting and studio sessions, Bieber kept his eye on the prize because, well, he's a good boy and he'd promised his mother that he would.

Justin Bieber drives fast cars, nuzzles with one very lovely young woman and gets his dance on in his record-setting "Boyfriend" video. Fairly simple in its concept, the video is a snapshot of what it would be like to party with the teen star and his hip friends on a rooftop in Los Angeles.
MTV News recently sat down with Director X, and he broke down what it was like to hit the set with the 18-year-old as he readies the next phase of his career, the more mature Believe era. The video is the lead visual off Bieber's June 19 album, and X took us through the clip, frame by frame.

The long-simmering basketball flick starring Justin Bieber and Mark Wahlberg looks like it's going to get delayed a bit longer. Both parties seem to remain steadfast to make it happen, but with the film still in the scripting phase, a timetable for when it might actually happen remains up in the air.
