This is the only screen version of Jonathan Swift's 1726 novel "Gulliver's Travels" to adapt all four of its parts.
Lemuel and Mary Gulliver were played by real-life married couple Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen. This was the first starring project for either following their 1995 marriage.
James Fox (Dr. Bates) and Edward Fox (General Limtoc) are brothers in real life. Their former sister-in-law Celestia Fox was the miniseries' casting director.
Although he played John Standing and Edward Fox's father, Peter O'Toole was only two years older than Standing and five years older than Fox in real life.
The footage of Gulliver's ship, the flying island of Laputa and Gulliver being brought aboard Laputa was later reused in Crayola Kids Adventures: Tales of Gulliver's Travels (1997), which was also produced by Hallmark Entertainment.
