Most of the Autobahn scenes are filmed on a closed-off test track modeled to resemble a real Autobahn. It is part of a test park featuring various tracks located near Aldenhoven/Aachen. It was built for engineering and science purposes, but access can be rented by anyone, even by private persons.
Since 1996, Semir Gerkhan (Erdogan Atalay) has changed several partners, including Tom Kranich (René Steinke), Jan Richter (Christian Oliver), and long-serving police station chief Mrs Engelhardt.
Erdogan Atalay is the longest-serving actor of the show, being there for over 20 years. Initially introduced as a sidekick in the episode Der neue Partner (1996), he would remain on the show to this day.
In the episode Der neue Partner (1996), original main character Frank Stolte (Johannes Brandrup) says that he doesn't need a partner, referring to Semir Gerkhan (Erdogan Atalay), who was added as a sidekick to the show. Ironically, Brandrup would leave the show after the first season, while Atalay took over as the main character.
