This is the only episode of the series not to feature a murder and in which Lt. Columbo never meets or speaks to the criminal.
Although Columbo often talks about his relatives, this is the only episode to feature any of them, namely his nephew Detective Andy Parma.
This episode and Columbo: Undercover (1994) were based on the 87th Precinct novels by Ed McBain (aka Evan Hunter), and, as such, do not strictly follow the standard Columbo/inverted detective story format.
This is one of the very few times that Columbo carries a gun. He does not use it.
This is based on Ed McBain's 87th Precinct novel "So Long As You Both Shall Live" (originally published 1976).
